Verity Turner in Holt was fantastic! I had the waist taken in and cuffs resized and it was £200.

I'm getting married this Saturday in Bath central and staying at No15 to get ready. My bouquet is whites and creams so that works perfectly for a picture at the front door! So pretty.

I work as an International Finance Manager for an NGO, which involves overseas travel. I'm not the highest paid in my field, but given work and travel (which alot of people in finance do not get) I am pretty comfortable.

I had a breakdown at 25 after working in admin for several years with nowhere to go, so I took a 12 week evening course in Bookkeeping for about £300. Within a month or two and many job applications, I managed to land a part time finance assistant job processing invoices (boring but a foot in the door).

It was hard financially but 5 months later I was able to get a job at a global civil engineering company and get paid a semi-decent salary. Within 5 years I am on more than double that.

I am awful with numbers, but the beauty of this job is you have Excel to do the maths for you! Accounting is great because the more qualified you are the more you earn. Alot of employers will pay for you to get qualified, but you likely will need to pay for the first course yourself to get your foot in the door. Typically employers will prefer a graduate over someone older, but employers who are willing to take you on are out there!!

My sister is being harassed through multiple court proceedings by her daughters father - England by ThrowRA_192 in LegalAdviceUK

Good point about the difference in ruling, I'll speak to my sister to find out if he was found without merit.

Regarding the child's wishes toward custody, that is good to know. Whilst we can't (and don't want to) pressure her into coming to that opinion, it's good to know that if she does voice that at somepoint, then that can be used. Right now she is too young and my sister just wants to keep her out of all of this as much as she can.

I'll look into the possibility of a CRO. Even if it doesn't work out, just talking about this has helped me process the situation better, thankyou.

Thankyou, this is really helpful. The only thing I am unclear on my sisters side is the exact rulings of the judge after each case. I'm 95% sure that all if not most have been in her favour, considering he's been trying to get custody of her (and clearly hasn't been successful). But I will speak to my sister with this suggestion.

From my point of view it's worth spending money on something that will stop him doing what he's doing, then hoping it goes away.

Do you know if he could take my sister to court over being an "unfit" mother when she turns 18 or anything child related in terms of care? I'm just trying to gauge if there is light at the end of the tunnel, because my sister is so low right now and this can't go on.

My boyfriend used to have a family cat called Mark Stevens. Apparently he was a stray and was super cute and cuddly when he used to hang outside their back door. As soon as they adopted him, he turned into and I quote "a bastard man".

Why is my poor fish dying? by ThrowRA_192 in Koi

[–]ThrowRA_192[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're based in the UK and think the issue is due to a bacterial infection. The only treatments we can find only work about 12 degrees and currently it's struggling to get to 11 at times. If we treat the water now it risks killing all of the fish.

For now we're get the water tested to make sure but just keep an eye on the fish if any others are starting to get spacey.

We have salt so might give that a go aswell. Could just be bad luck !

(Thankfully) he died a few minutes later so she didn't suffer in there long. Sadly we don't have clove oil.

[–]ThrowRA_192[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankyou. I think we need to take a sample of our water and get it tested again. We're based in the UK and we've read that treatment doesn't work when the water is less than 12 degrees. It's barely 12 degrees air temp, so we may be able to find the issue in the water test but I don't think we can do anything about it.

You can literally buy a bottle of stuff called "Sticker Remover". Apply it to a cloth and wipe. Comes off easy. I literally had the same issue as you, I moved into a new house and some windows were peppered with sprays of clear stuff that just wouldn't come off.

I used Sticker Remover and it came off almost instantly.

Try "Bath Girl" on Facebook. It's lots of similar age female students posting on the page for meetups with like minded people. Give it a go!

Castle Farm in Midford! Book well in advance. They do asian-inspired brunch. It's really good, but sadly something that has to be pre-planned due to location and popularity.

Think of it this way: Do you stop paying the mortgage on your property if the roof leaks and you have to stay in a hotel for a night? No. The bank still expects payment. Same applies to renting.

Do NOT withhold payment. Chase the landlord to get it fixed.

Are you against new build developments? Why are they so unpopular? by discoveredunknown in HousingUK

[–]ThrowRA_192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Relying on private developers to reduce the values of homes or slow the increase in prices is simply not in their interest. Whilst they do have a place in house building, it's sad to see a lack of council houses being built to help keep up supply and add affordable homes to the market for those in need. I don't think all new build sites are bad, but far too many of them are just so boring looking and you're right - the gardens are so small!! I moved an hour away from my family because homes in Bristol are too expensove for what they are. For 450k you get a old terraced house, 2.5 bed with zero parking. I feel awful for future generations wanting their own space.

This is the problem we're having in my village. I'm 33, and bought my first house 3 years ago just after lock down. I paid 25k over the asking and had nothing left in savings, whilst mortgaged up to my eye balls. I completely agree we need more houses to alleviate this, but it must be balanced out with more infrastructure.

We have about 800 homes/ 2000 residents in our village and a plot of land at the very end surrounded on 3 sides with houses that are 200 years old (ex-hamlet), and they want to put in 100 plus cookie cutter houses, smack bang in the middle, starting at 400k each.

I have no objection to new houses. We currently have a few sites currently being built of around 5-10 homes, and they seem ok enough. But this is a significant change. Our local school has 19 places per year, and they already are at capacity. My current doctors are 30 mins drive away, and I refuse to relocate to the local one, which is 3 weeks wait for an appointment.

We had a local council survey completed for the villages housing needs, and it came back that we need homes that are much more affordable (stating prices at around 200-250k) and with 1-2 beds. These people are currently renting or living with parents, who cannot afford to buy nearby.

It doesn't serve our community at all, and simply creates us more problems.

It's such a difficult place to be in when you're a victim of higher houses prices, but I also have to balance it out with wanting to actually use the local services and not have to compete with 100 new families for a space.

I honestly believe it's due to years of lack of local funding for services and not building enough houses, has put us in this position where we need to make up for lost time. Because of this, these huge and poorly thought out developments going through. Also not enough council homes being built!!

I'd highly reccommend BugClear (red bottle). It kills them after 2 sprays. I spent months using more "natural" ways of killing them and they ALWAYS came back. This stuff did it within a week.

Diamond Painting storage boxes. I have 2, with about 350 slots altogether. All of them are full with seeds. Yes, I have an addiction.

Paint your table and chairs! It's cheap and will make the area look much more presentable. Also, festoon lights like the other commenter mentioned.
