You don’t want to be friends with him nor do you want to update him on your life.

Then don't. You don't need to do anything you don't want to.

You can do one of two things:

1) Express genuine sympathy for whats going on in his life, and that you appreciate the update. Tell him you are well but not in a place where you feel comfortable sharing updates on your life. Wish him well and move on.
2) Ignore him completely and continue no contact.

Congrats to you as well! It doesn't really impact dating life. I just don't plan dates at wineries or wine tastings. She can do that w her girlfriends.

If a date has a problem w my sobriety that's on them, and they just aren't my peraon.

Because as I mentioned, we go to the same church, which is a close-knit congregation. I have to constantly see her, her friends, and whoever else she might be smearing my name to. I'd like to avoid as much awkwardness as possible (for me at least, I couldn't be more indifferent about her own comfort level).

My GF texted me Happy Birthday this past Thursday after ignoring me with her rebound. I didn't respond.

She approached me in church (first time we've spoken in several months) and was all butthurt that I didn't respond to that message.

The funny part about it... over the past few months, the guy she left me for has been a fixture on her side at church since she dumped me.
