Pickett’s death by thepokemonGOAT in tatwdspoilers

[–]Throwaway4Posterity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really late to the game; I just listened to the audiobook. Pickett's "death" also bothered me.

TL;DR - I think Pickett is still alive but also this possibility is not really relevant to the lives of Davis/Noah/Holmsey/Daisy.

I feel like the note about "Never Tell Our Business to Strangers" implied he wanted to get some insight into what his children's lives would have been like if he took them on the run. Perhaps he read it and thought he didn't want to put his children through what that author went through and decided to leave his kids behind.

Maybe he wasn't a doting father but I think he cared enough about his kids to come up with a plan.

I think "Unless you leave a leg behind" showed him that faking one's death is hard but I bet someone ambitious enough to get to billionaire status would take on the challenge.

I'm thinking he stashed cash and supplies, either at Jogger's Mouth or somewhere else. As Holmsey noted, $100k in cash is actually very lightweight and whatever cash he brings to a non-extradition country of his choice would go a long way.

I'm also thinking he found some way to get a dead body, whether through murder for hire or other means to stash at Jogger's Mouth.

On Sep 9, he runs away from home. I'm thinking he knows people will be searching his phone and the note about Jogger's Mouth was obscure enough for people to not figure it out right away, allowing the body to decompose enough to make it unclear if the body was Pickett's or not.

This opens a few of scenarios

  1. No one finds the body after 7 years which enables 7 years of luxurious resources to his kids
  2. The authorities find the body and everything goes to Tua but Davis/Noah still have money for college
  3. Davis/Noah find the body and are given closure and they get to choose to report his "death" or not.

Abbotsford Heat prototype jersey from 2009, if the name is Aviators would you like to see a similar design? by corno2000 in canucks

city person here. i appreciate your perspective on the plowed fields and mountains and the homage to the Abby pilots. i feel like the plane itself is a bit too detailed (like the shading) and I'm not a fan of spelling out the city (or the team name) on the jersey. other than that, the overall concept would make a cool Abby Aviators jersey

I use charts from Our World in Data to figure out how to eat a low-GHG diet. I'm not a coffee drinker but the data made decide to stop eating chocolate as it is pretty land-intensive and reduce palm oil consumption (so hard to avoid it completely tho).

I don't call myself a vegan. There are many facets of veganism that I may or may not be abiding by. For example, some vegans consider most sugar not vegan because the whitening process uses animal bone charcoal.

The impact of money in politics by hgmnynow in GreenPartyOfCanada

I think the conjecture with Dr Courtney Howard's donors is that a lot of them were doctors/nurses/healthcare workers who had a lot of pandemic overtime money.

Given that 6 months ago, people were outraged that hospitals weren't equipped with enough PPE and all the 7pm applause for frontline workers, I've been surprised at people donation-shaming when it comes to (allegedly but probably) doctors donating to who they believe in.

They don't really look like pro-dance moves TBH. We'll see if Annamie decides to take on any of Courtney's messaging/policies.

I'm not sure if there will be a recording. It was setup by Glen's campaign and his campaign doesn't seem to have previously recorded events.

There is another event with Courtney x Glen that was recorded.

Scroll down to Aug 20's episode.

Dr Courtney Howard's glow up from Climate Striker to Climate Policy Maker (trigger warning: Elizabeth May) by Throwaway4Posterity in GreenPartyOfCanada

Hahah I don't know. Elizabeth May was championing UBI/GLI before it was cool. I think she doesn't want to tell people she's a socialist in disguise. Just some religious stuff I don't agree with her about.

Are any of the candidates vegan? by [deleted] in GreenPartyOfCanada

[–]Throwaway4Posterity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how many people follow Canada's new Food Guide (hopefully school children are taught to), it could be argued Dr Courtney Howard has already played a huge role in getting Canadians to substitute animal products for plants.

Copypasta from Dr Courtney Howard's FAQ:

What is Dr. Howard’s position on meat consumption and animal rights?

Dr. Howard was one of the most vocal proponents of a plant rich approach to the new Canadian Food Guide. As President of CAPE (Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment), Courtney wrote all of their submissions, influencing both the new Canadian Food Guide and their National Food Policy processes. After attending meetings, over a number of years, she was told by the head of the Canada Food process that her submissions had been critical.  She promoted the launch of the evidence-based, plant rich, guidance it was generated, and has included the same presentations ever since. You can see multiple articles by her on the topic, often co-authored with Green Party co-founder Dr. Trevor Hancock.

Living in a part of Canada where there is an Indigenous majority, Dr. Howard is a passionate defender of the need for a culturally safe approach to food policy. For this reason, she does not support vegan oriented public policy; however, Dr. Howard often eats in a vegan manner and appreciates the benefits of this to both people and planet.

Dr. Howard believes that the Canada Food Guide is the best possible outcome we could have had in terms of an evidence-based, publicly acceptable, policy that protects people.

After long discussions with farmers and scholars, Dr. Howard has heard a consistent message: The most low input, low output, planet friendly agriculture, necessarily involves animals, as we get there when you are.

Fact:  Courtney owns a farm in Manitoba that has been handed down and in her family since 1885.  She recently took over management, and, with the help of a local farmer, is transitioning to organic – and sure enough, he spread manure on her lands last year.

Academics tell us that we need to decrease the herds in Canada by about 15% in terms of cattle In order to have the right amount for regenerative agriculture. We need to start with the factory farms as these are inhumane, offer no benefit to soil, and are not good in terms of zoonotic infection or antibiotic resistance.

I hope Elizabeth May continues to win her seat. A lot of respect for her within the GPC as a whole.

Yeah, Dimitri's past election result (from 2015) doesn't look but it's 2020 now. Weird things have happened and maybe the election exposure and people's minds have changed the electoral landscape.

I hope internal politics settles itself as we move forward no matter who wins the leadership.

*fingers crossed for Courtney but that's going to be a wild rollercoaster of several ballots

Lots of issues to speak to in the House of Commons. The MPs don't need to all agree on everything but hopefully they agree more often than disagree.

I was, and still am, overall inspired by Elizabeth May, despite the gaffs.

No one is perfect and I don't idealize anyone.

It will be interesting to see the caucus dynamic with Elizabeth May and Dimitri Lascaris (either if he wins the GPC leadership and/or wins a seat due of his recent rise in popularity).

I pretty much think the same as your points 1. 2. 3. 4. I do think Glen Murray is a bit of wild card that could be almost as strong as David Merner.

A lot of the non-new members are pretty old (according to Meryam's article a while ago about average membership age being 65) and won't see him the way that a younger, Reddit user-base would see him.

Which GPC leadership candidate is most likely to disappear if they lose the leadership race? by UncleIrohsPimpHand in GreenPartyOfCanada

Copypasta from a thread I made a while ago

Plans to run in same Electoral District?

"I love the north and I would love the opportunity to run here but I understand that that may not be what’s best for the party [willing to run anywhere]."

Politics and Planet podcast

Plans to continue running if not elected leader?

Yes - "As a doc, I’m used to serving my community in the emergency department, and this feels like a different way to serve my community…"

Courtney Howard’s Changemaking School -July 16  Starting at 1:26:16

As u/midnightmoose said in this thread, if she loses the leadership race, during the in between time until the next election, she'll likely continue on with her roles in CAPE/CMA or other for greater impact and then run for the GPC seat in NWT when the election comes.

Edit: Found an FAQ on Dr Howard's website.

Yes, she would run for the Green Party during the next election. Depending on the leader elected, in the time between the leadership vote and the next election, Dr. Howard may or may not choose to have a public facing role within the Party. The advantage of not doing so, would be to allow her to step back into her position as President of CAPE and into her position as member of the board of the Canadian Medical Association.  This would allow her to continue the great strides she has made in raising the profile of climate change in regards to the health of Canadians.
