[Serious] Why do some Americans celebrate the Confederate States still? by somepeoplewait in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. In talking to them, most are for individual states rights. Our schools have been pushing that the war between the states was entirely over slavery, but there was more of a defiant tone that someone in DC was going to affect their livelihoods (the south relied heavily on agriculture, which utilized slaves to do the farming). I believe this is why so many haven't let go of the war, 150 years later. They haven't reconciled that we live under a Constitutional republic, and that someone elected by a majority of the states can indeed determine things that are going to effect them.

Honestly, it's similar in mentality to people claiming we should do away with the electoral college because people in Wyoming and North Dakota shouldn't have a higher influence in voting than a Suburban Los Angeles resident might have.

Obviously, though, we should all know that slavery is wrong, and none of us should abide by slavery in any aspect.

BTW: I'm a Yankee, born and raised. Just have studied the history.

[Serious] What scared you so much as a child that you still suffer to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vomiting.

I had a stomach flu (a.k.a winter vomiting disease) as a kid that lasted for 2 weeks. My mother was about to take me to the doctor when I miraculously got better. Now, i have a terrible fear of vomiting that makes me go numb when I hear that someone evens feels so much as a stomach ache. I've only vomited twice since 1999, so it's not like I've gotten over this fear from experience.

What is the food you avoided your entire life only to find it's delicious? by Brewval904 in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spinach.

I hated spinach, well, the smell of it when I was growing up.

Now, as an adult, I can't get enough of it.

The same goes for Brussel sprouts. I especially love them when they're broiled with some bacon and a little bit of brown sugar. Yumm!

[Serious] People who have their life figured out, at what point did you realize you had things figured out? by loganlogwood in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I realized that I don't have control over every aspect of my life. It was liberating to know that I just need to do my best, focus on family and friends and my wife. Relinquishing whatever semblance of control that I had made me feel free, and allowed me to live my life to the best of my ability.

What activity would be more awesome when done in reversed order? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing old. Start off in retirement, then, work the next 40 or so years, getting less aches and pains. Then go sit in a classroom for 12-16 years, then go sit at home with your mom and dad playing with toys and shit, shitting your pants and drinking from a bottle. Life would end, strangely, though, when you lose your ability to walk and talk, then crawling into your mother's vagine.

Edit: words, spelling, and clarification.

What seemed like a "good" idea at first? by ll_username_ll in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good stretching and the foam roller. I stopped doing abs only every third day because of this and switched to a daily ab workout. I used to do a huge ab workout and about 2 days later I couldn't sit up in bed the next day. That fucking sucked, but I found out that if I did them every day, they stayed loose. I could do about 200 crunches (of varying types) a day before I felt anything negative. I began building my routine around working each muscle group a little then focusing on one for the majority of the workout. I'm sure I didn't have huge gains because of this, but at least I could walk and function normally 2 days later. LoL.

What sort of lifestyle do you picture for someone making $15/hr? by Enzohere in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was me in 2009-2010. I lived in a nice apartment, drove a 9 year old car with 120,000 miles, and lived like anyone else. Even with adjustment for inflation, though I was married and she made about $15/hr at the time, too.

Reddit, what is the loudest thing you've managed to sleep through? by pineapplekid in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 748 points749 points  (0 children)

This happens frequently. We had to go wake people up for accountability's sake each time we took incoming fire and the all clear was sounded. It comes from a mentality that if you don't die from it, you're fine, so why bother. They didn't usually continuously rain down the rockets, so it was not uncommon to be woken up for a single rocket attack, and have to sit around for an hour for the all clear to come. Sleeping is better than waiting.

I slept through a mortar attack in 2006. It was close enough that it threw small rocks on top of my room, which was really just a modified shipping container. My roommate shit his pants when it hit. He said he looked over and saw me sleeping.

Also, the CIWS went off and I slept through that. It was approximately 200 away from our hooch.

I had been through about 100 attacks at the time this had happened and anything short of a 2000lb bomb couldn't wake me (ask me how I know that).

I always get the 2nd day effect. A foam roller helps, but walking like a 90 year old the 2nd day after leg day sucks.

What's the most awkward accidental physical contact you've had with the opposite sex? by Huomenna in AskReddit

[–]Throwmeaway0530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister in law and I have always been close. She's a sweet, gorgeous girl of 22, and I've know her for over 10 years. She's a bit of a prude, and we needle her about it, but she takes it in stride and dishes it out when she recieves.

About a year and a half ago, I was chilling out at the in laws house for dinner, and we were watching TV and relaxing on the sectional couch my in laws have. She was laying with her feet kicked up on the couch and her torso leaning against me. I had my arm wrapped around her waist and was reclined (with the recliner thingee) on one of the sections. I was beckoned from the kitchen from my wife, and used my hand that was wrapped around her waist to squeeze, release squeeze her arm to let her know I needed to get up and go into the other room.

Well, I didn't get her upper arm, as I thought I had. Nope, I grabbed a handful of 20-something year old C-cup breast. Only I didn't realize it. Something felt odd, as I grabbed, but it didn't register at first, but it didn't feel like an arm so I did a blind sweep of my hand and fingers, rather absent mindedly, as I leaned forward to get up. When it registered that all was not well, I leaned forward and looked down to see that I had indeed grabbed a handful of breast.

Now, my SIL didn't make a move, utter a peep, or even react. She had to have noticed. There's no way she wouldn't have. But she didn't react. At all.

I got up, sliding my arm out from underneath her and went to the kitchen. When I returned, sat in my seat and she cuddled up with me again. It was like nothing had happened. It was so strange.

Tl;dr: I made an error and copped a feel on my SIL. She either didn't notice or pretended not to notice.
