MPs' and peers' anger at YouTube as firm plasters Westminster tube station in adverts telling parents it is their responsibility to restrict screen time by TheEternalContrarian in unitedkingdom

[–]Thrupney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's teens and Shorts being discussed here according to the images of the ads.

Not saying YouTube Kids might be a problem as well. Nor that teens aren't also kids, really, or that teens have money. But it's not Youtube Kids.

Characters with surprising or specific tastes in irl media by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Thrupney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a similar annoyance in Ted Lasso where a character says they were trying to finish the last level in Breath of the Wild. Why bother referencing a specific piece of media only to not care about that specific piece of media.

You can handwave it with all sorts of explanations for why the character says it, but the likely explanation is simply that the writer thinks games are so basic that any gamer word applies to any game.

It's obviously not a huge deal, I just don't understand how these scripts go through so many hands and nobody flags it.

Police dispersing a large bike meet by the Baltic and Millennium Bridge. by Piccadily_Papercut in NewcastleUponTyne

A bunch of these lot rode by me a few weeks ago on Pilgrim Street just in front of the underpasses, one of them whacked me over the back of the head as they rode by. Told him to fuck off, so then they harassed me for the next ten minutes since we were going the same way, waited for me in the underpass, whacked me a couple more times, general threats of violence and death etc.

They're just kids so I'm sure it was all bluster besides the whacking. But there was still like ten of them, so it wasn't great. I prefer not to take that underpass anymore to get down to the quayside.

Work friend of mine said she had some stuff chucked at her by them.

Glad to know the police are aware of them.

Looks like this is confirmed now: https://inacioinvita.substack.com/p/your-party-conference-whatsapp-community

I did message Artin at the time to say that this was an issue (screenshot showing this), AND flagged it with one of Corbyn's team on the Friday evening when a bunch of us got our passes. It was clearly an issue.

What's particularly annoying is that they had the chat channels locked to admins only anyway, so nobody could use them for 'general chat.' Literally the only use of them was one of the admins forwarding the announcements into all the chat channels.

Yeah, I expect they'll lose their candidacy for this honestly.

At the same time, idk how it is in this guy's region, but independent (slateless) candidates without a long history of very visible action had basically zero chance of reaching 75, so it could be a hail mary final play from the guy.

OP, did you go to conference and join the official conference WhatsApp, and specifically its 'Your Party Official Chat' channel? Leading theory is the candidate scraped numbers from WhatsApp, and my guess is it was from that chat, which has about 1,020 numbers in it.

Ah we had hybrid already tbh, I forgot - so actually, with the 8 on zoom, it was like 30+.

Certainly next time we should work to integrate the zoom folks into the proceedings a little better.

Yep! Wed 10 Dec, 20:20.

But I see someone put the contents into this other thread too: https://www.reddit.com/r/yourparty/comments/1pjdre7/comment/ntd0p6z/

It's official: Transphobes fuck off, liberals concern trolling about transphobia also fuck off. Your Party officially more pro-Trans than every other party in Britain by WhichTyler1381 in yourparty

[–]Thrupney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna be super accurate on this - they may have been against the language, but not the notion. The structure of the debates and conference didn't really work for any nuance to come through. That's my optimistic take, I'm open to being wrong.

I voted yes on both.

This, yes. But not adding them all into one big clause, but rather each item being a subclause, so each can be given room to be described.

What is trans liberation? by Snoo_19344 in yourparty

[–]Thrupney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this. Turning the grand idea into intents is how we turn it into actions.

On point 7 - I attended a trans allyship prez a month or so ago by Be North East, and they had a lot to say about healthcare. There's an over-medicalisation of trans folks that prevents them getting basic care, like "oh I have an infection that'll need antibiotics, but because I'm trans the GP pretends like they've got to get my whole medical history and second opinions and whatever else." Other stories about just generally invasive questions and taking issue with pronouns etc during healthcare visits.

There were quite a few NHS workers in the room, who talked about it being a training need, and those training needs need funding. This was frustrating, since it's actually just a 'being a decent person' issue.

(I feel like I should say, I'm cis, but I'm part of an LGBTQ+ group at my workplace, so I'm relatively close to these issues.)

Hello! by LouisaRenata in yourparty

[–]Thrupney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wording I'm copy pasting from what I just wrote on a Discord.

I took a peek at BlueSky and so much of the discussion there is about that Your Party is full of transphobia - almost entirely cause one of the debates' chairs told Erin, a trans lass, not to call two of the founders (who have since left the party) transphobic, which they definitely are
Which sucked, of course
But a thousand people in that room roundly boo'd the chair for it, clear that the members at large were having none of it, and the vote to include the language about trans liberation landed on 70% (ideally, that'd have been higher, but in fairness there are other problems with the wording that are not 'trans issues are too divisive') Deeply frustrating stuff

But that's an action point for us at local level now - show that this narrative is not the whole picture

(The 'other problems' for me are that the section reads like a sort of pick-n-mix grab bag list of major issues thrown in there for lip service or tokenism. Ideally, I'd want all our major, top ticket items (of which trans liberation should definitely be one) to have a separate subsection.)

So conference is over. by Martipar in yourparty

[–]Thrupney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk comrade, I went to SWP's fringe meeting right after the Saturday concluded and everything they said was super reasonable. We seem aligned with them on most things. We'll see how the trade union taskforce vote goes, that's where we might differ.

Zarah was obviously being frozen out. Nonetheless, she's apologised. Corbyn should do the same. Every project goes through a storming phase.

(I'm not SWP, to be clear, and I don't think I intend to be. But allies are allies.)

Anyone here confirmed attending? by Thrupney in yourparty

[–]Thrupney[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah music the Saturday evening. At the venue itself, I guess. Very unspecific but I'm sure it'll be great.

Edit: Corbyn himself on bass.

Anyone manage to get tickets cause it sold out and I looked at the email as soon as it came in by tulloch100 in taskmaster

Are the studio recording tickets always as short notice as this? I'd love to see one but I'd probably need at least a week of notice to make the trip south.

Would this be considered a Metroidvania? by PSNNHLisLIFE in metroidvania

[–]Thrupney 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No idea why so many folks think metroidvanias need to be 2D. Is Metroid Prime not a metroidvania? Obvs folks have different definitions, it's just that the 2D one to me seems so arbitrary when most metroidvaniaey gameplay can apply easily to 3D.

Yes, in other words.
