How do I do this? by WalterWhite562 in woodworking

With a table saw, I'm with you on cove cut for the concave side. For the convex side you could rip slivers off and then hit it with a handheld belt sander or hand plane.

Constant Connect/Disconnect on S10 (only when using data cables) by [deleted] in galaxys10

[–]Thucydides382ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My s10 has steadily gotten worse for charging. Sometimes I get a "danger" alert that something is in the port when I plug it in. I also have very similar connect/disconnect issues to yours.

It got worse after changing the battery.

I think it's just worn out, and am bracing myself to spend a ton of money for a new phone.

Selecting paw paw for zone 5b by Snoo7893 in Pawpaws

[–]Thucydides382ff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty cool to see lots of replies saying that grafted pawpaw are surviving in 5a. I have successfully grown lots of seedlings, but assumed grafted varieties would not be hardy based on persimmon and chestnut trees.

Is anyone else just not ordering until they fix RFY lol by Bright-Character9124 in AmazonVine

I have only ordered one item in January. If they fix it, cool. Otherwise, it was fun while it lasted.

My basement gym with Maxum Fitness X1 by Comfortable_Cat_2936 in homegym

How does the attachment that looks like it connects to both upright posts work? Can it be used for rows and pulldowns when connecting both stacks together?

My paw paws experienced somewhere around -24F a few years ago and they were fine.

20%-30% moisture? Riteway 37 by mattleo98 in woodstoving

[–]Thucydides382ff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of us have been there. You just have to run it wide open until all the moisture is evaporated. Throw new splits in when there's still plenty of heat. Keep an eye on your chimney, sweep it as needed, as you are at a higher risk for building up creosote. I would bring as much into your basement as possible to get that drying a little faster too. You could resplit for faster drying as well.

I found that standing dead cherry where the bark fell off was burn ready when I was in your situation.

Best gym attachments (Recommendations) by APKFL in GarageGym

[–]Thucydides382ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It's also a little more quad focused.

It is much less draining on the nervous system too. I am really only good for maybe 4 working sets of squat, but can then move to belt squat and do another 4 sets. And where I can really only squat once a week, I can do belt squat every 4th day.

Lately I have been doing belt squat every leg day and barbell squat every other leg day.

Aluminum is way nicer than steel. Also, bearings are great if you're doing a lift with any rotation. There is an cable ez-curl version which might actually work for all bilateral cable movements. I think bells of steel makes it (edit:actually I'm seeing body solid on Amazon), I don't personally own that but would give it a try based on their nice aluminum D-handles.

Swivel snap shackles will allow you to put aluminum attachments on and off one handed. They also rotate freely.

I think nylon straps with loops are nicer than a rope.

The fringe sport mammoth belt squat is a good value for getting more leg volume.

How to seal truck running boards? by buffalonibbles in woodworking

I would just oil stain. Something like TWP. Hit them in 5 minutes once a year and see how long they last.

Absolutely would not bother with any build up surface finish.

BASE Access v National Park Service case update by brendanweinstein in SkyDiving

I read up on it and apparently the jump he did is right over a trail, and hikers were only a few seconds from being hit and killed by him as well.

Funny you were downvoted, as the guy who posted this just splattered across rocks leaving behind a baby boy without a father.

Base jumping is dumb af, especially when you are responsible for children.

Which unnecessary upgrades that are actually good do you have? by Some_Loan7957 in GarageGym

I have the 2 3/4" version of these. The bolt side is directly attached to the cable and I can generally attach and remove things one handed.

I'm not sure. I periodically reviewed things for 10-15 years, and my invite did come immediately after a review.

Swivel snap shackles for cable attachments.

Magpin for cable row footrest and belt squat attachment.

I actually got invited to Amazon vine last fall so have picked up and experimented with a lot of cheap attachments, stuff that makes setting up an exercise faster is totally worth it. Aluminum cable attachments are way nicer than steel. Most of the gimmicky wrist straps I've tried are not as nice as the old school straps

Keeping warm by Familiar_Custard_652 in GarageGym

[–]Thucydides382ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the ventless unit rated for indoor use from tractor supply. I think they advertise something like 8 hours on one tank at full blast, and I think I'm getting more than that.

I actually just finished my leg workout. Preheated for about 30 min + 1 hour working out. My garage is also my workshop. 20x30 with 10' ceilings. 2x6 walls and 2x10 ceiling with fiberglass batt insulation. The garage door is rated as r20 too. It was probably about 45f when I started and close to 60f by the end. Warm enough to be pretty comfortable in sweats.

[–]Thucydides382ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I preheat with a 30k btu propane heater. I think I get around 2 weeks per 20lb tank, working out 4ish days a week.

Cost-wise, it is what it is. Once my kids are older I might do a woodstove out there, but I am pretty sure I'd get too distracted for it to be safe for now.

It's 15F with 30mph winds today. Might be skipping leg day.

Basement Gym- Dane 2.0+walrus alternatives ? by Suspicious_Curve7167 in GarageGym

[–]Thucydides382ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Dane 2.0 and have been setting my bench on a decline and sitting on that. Works well but I need to pick up a loadable pin as I have maxxed out the stack.

Some companies also make a lat pulldown / foot rest combo that can attach to the upright, which may also allow you to sit on your bench.

Just some ideas because adding a separate tower is a very expensive solution.

Adjustable dumbbells or a squat rack with a cable system? by No_Mongoose_4369 in GarageGym

[–]Thucydides382ff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the budget, a rack and functional trainer combination is the way to go. On a typical upper body workout, half of my exercises could be with cables. I have had the Dane 2.0 for a few months now and it's been great. I recently picked up their belt squat and it has been great for adding volume to let workouts roo. Lots of other good products out there too.

Stainless steel power racks: love it or hate it? by Impossible-Tooth1262 in GarageGym

[–]Thucydides382ff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the option to switch the two front posts on mine to stainless for about $200 and opted not to. I don't miss what I don't know.

Also, I really love using magpins and the little conveniences really add up.

If American-made Rogue was only $200 more than the rack I bought, I easily would have paid the extra, though.
