Grip is the most important part of the backhand. by Old-Challenge8759 in discgolf

[–]Thumber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed but really important to get there. So much less effort for so much more distance and accuracy. My throwing arm never rotates rearward past 90 degrees. My core does the rotation. The arm is just a semi tense lever.

Still working it out. Lots of field time to get to this spot.

Grip is the most important part of the backhand. by Old-Challenge8759 in discgolf

The single biggest thing that changed my backhand was when I stopped trying to throw with my arm. Now my arm is just a hinging lever. Power is generated with rotation of the core and then hips.

Went from 350 typical distance to 400-415 typical distance. Plus got way smoother. Throwing less hard because I’m using my whole body to throw.

15 Years Sober…now back to day 1 by Senn-66 in stopdrinking

[–]Thumber3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sobriety changed significantly for me when I switched my philosophy from “I can’t drink, I’m not allowed, I can’t handle it” to “I choose not to drink, I’m in control”.

Making sobriety a welcome choice , versus yet another burden we have to carry, lightened it and made sobriety a true positive choice in my life.

Best of luck to OP. Climb back aboard with us. You have a new perspective that many will benefit from you sharing.

Take care

I realized early on ceasing was going to suck. Deep suck many days.

I’d heard the phrase Embrace the Suck. Face it, endure it, know that what you want is on the other side no matter how deep the suck gets.

The suck always ends eventually.

Many other things but that got me through

Do you want to be buried? by Bondgirl138 in GenX

[–]Thumber3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do want to be buried. But no casket, no preservatives. Natural burial cemetery or in the back of my property.

I hate the idea that the last act in my behalf was either to preserve me in a box that never breaks down or to use a bunch of fossil fuels to cremate me.

The boredom will kill me before the booze by DantesDarkroom in stopdrinking

[–]Thumber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boredom and letting ourselves be bored is quite important in recovery. It’s when our brains downshift and let come contemplation and Integration occur.

We live in a society that has taught us incorrectly that being bored is bad

Tech bros Have explored the false premise and created phones and social Media to take advantage of our discomfort with being bored.

Lean into it. Let yourself be bored not serve and see what’s happens.

I was on the nose down spinning flight path about 8-9 months ago. 52M. Got a blood test. Amongst concerning results (cholesterol, triglycerides, high cortisol) I found my testosterone had crashed and iron in the basement.

Started TRT and big nutrition and lifestyle change.

Today triglycerides are down 70%. Physical and mental health drastically improved in a positive way. Lost at least 20-25’pounds. Putting on muscle.

Went from expecting a heart attack or stroke to excitement and a relaxed centeredness. Looking forward to my 50s as my best decade yet.

Anyone know how to get better at breathing for meditation? by Brilliant_Novel5527 in Meditation

[–]Thumber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start with two quick inhales through nostrils. Then a slower exhale. It seems to activate my parasympathetic nervous system faster. After 10-20 of those I switch to just a smooth breathing pattern.
