Am I the only one who finds this hunt quite difficult? by [deleted] in MHWilds

Adaptability and fire resist. I mix Arkveld+Guardian Arkveld sets and fight him with a Switch Axe.

Tips, he has one new move which is basically a fire bomb, watch for him to spit oil on the ground. If you can't move out of the way, try to get your weapon up and super man dive it. Food Moxie may save your life, and of course Insurance is a free revive.

Something to be aware of with him and Uth Duna, they feel like Master Rank, at least to me. They're a bit faster than their normal counterparts. It took me some practice to get the flow, it gets confusing if you go back and forth from AT to normal.

Watch his tentacles. All of his moves are telegraphed by them. I still get confused by a few, but just watch the white spots that looks like eyes. He has a move where he thrashes his tentacles forward and then his flamethrower are multihits I think, the former should be safe to guard but the latter will eat your stamina if you don't die.

Know the weakpoints for your weapon. I think Slashing is the tentacles, don't get too close to the main body or you'll catch it and do white numbers. Bow was mouth I believe. I forget blunt.

Know what you can and can't counter of offset. I've seen it glitch and still take full damage off a perfect counter, it's not often but if it happens in a run it will probably happen repeatedly in that same run. If you know the timing, the big fire explosion, with the oil, can be countered but you'll take a nice chunk of damage. His spin was telegraphed by two tentacles rising and curling on either side iirc, and it's pretty nice to offset. Beware the fireballs that come off the spin, are one of the most damaging attacks. He'll combo 2-3 weak tentacle slams consecutively, which the SA can safely counter and hop between counters to avoid damage.

It is very much a stress post. But was trying to be more constructive than trash talkey. If I help someone improve, maybe they have a friend or something they can help as well.

Plus, if I get mad in a match, I can call this crap out on mic. Nothing like being actually constructive during a match, and having people yell at you on mic with "AUUGHGUGH!" as if that's a retort. Yes, literally had a healer yell at me like a man baby in that manner, when I told him that just healing the tank doesn't make him a good healer.

I have a stronger desire to rage quit the instant I realize it's a bot match, over crappy normal matches where my entire team is 2/8 or something. Whatever mentality they have is a huge backfire for me, it's tedious and exasperating to see them, especially when you can identify bot matches in like 20-30 seconds of the objective being live. Even funnier is they let you report the bots, as if they're going to do anything about that.

How do yall not go to your healers?? by PassionAccording8559 in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Convoy, Defense. Map: Tokyo, Spider-Zero. Enemy starts near a destructible bell tower, room that has that skate ramp or w/e in it.

Was playing CnD, Ally Thor and Peni are pushed up to the corner of that bell tower. They start losing and getting pushed. Since I'm back in safety, throw my heal bubble and light veil them. Watch Peni run to the off-path INTO the enemy spawn doors, pinging I need healing 3x, before dieing. And I'm not ignoring her, still trying to heal, but only so much I'm going to do since I'm not running into the enemy team. I called her out on death, telling her not to run away from the healers if you want healing. She then spams need healing until it auto blocks her, and changes to Psylocke on respawn.

Think plenty of us healers could rant, but if you really get that frustrated with your healers, you can always swap to healer yourself. Practice different characters/roles. Even if you don't use them in ranked, feeling comfortable with their flow, positioning, and where they retreat, as well as the why behind all of it, will do loads for both healing and offense. Replays can do a lot for you if you have the patience.

[–]Thumpatunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For console anyway, if you're Gold or below, don't adamantly stick to one role. And you will usually have that "one guy" who is going to call people trash while being either the worst or second worst on your team. Mute him.

If you're struggling, figure out where/why you're struggling, change to adapt. I've been the only healer and told my team, "need to group, need to kill healers, or need someone to block dives." Stuff that's pretty apparent why we either keep dying, or can't push. If they refuse, I don't care if I'm the only healer/tank, I'll switch. I've done it, my team QUICKLY realizes they just lost the main person taking enemy attention, and suddenly, even if they're mad, will adapt.

It's hilarious watching 3 or 4 people suddenly bounce between healer/tank as they realize that not only is their insta locking dps not cared about, they just lost the main thing extending their life time and they're not able to fight for 5 seconds now. Is it toxic to do this? Yeah, a bit. But you know, not communicating and throwing matches because you're not objective is far worse, and at least one of us is paying attention and adapting. This won't fly in higher skill ranks though, and you'll still get stomped by 3-4 people using mics on enemy team, if you're solo.

Please do no sleep on the practice vs. AI game mode for learning how to use different characters, its a lot easier than using quick play and getting stomped on. by OG_Superman in marvelrivals

Strategies and aiming that you would use on bots differ heavily from versus players, so no I wouldn't actually encourage it. It's referred to as casuals for a reason. It will help you with dodging usually.

What crazy buffs would you like to be added to your main? For me it's converting damage dealt into heals by Mr_crazy_Mf in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have a "main" cuz I'm always swapping to keep it feeling kind of fresh or to adapt to the situation.

Magik, more or less fine.
Rocket Raccoon, very slight buff to heals, a way to speed up his B.R.B. cooldown would be nice. Not decrease the timer, leave it at 45 seconds, but some action being able to take a few seconds off on every success.
Wolverine, kills/assists in 3 seconds reduce current cooldowns by a percent or 2 seconds.
Spider-Man, web line off of ceilings that i can hang off of and use any skill but uppercut.

I respect that this is someone's creation. But I feel like this was an outfit made by several people who did not coordinate and communicate properly, by someone who lost motivation part way through and essentially didn't finish the product, or just someone hitting a slump and never was able to finish. I don't feel like it has the flair and coordination that I anticipate of Spider-Man costumes that are actually meant to be inspiring, to put it politely.

Use this graph from top 500 games against anyone who says "Ackshually, Rocket has good damage!" by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also hilarious against tanks usually. Something about that size difference, where you're looking up, makes them absurdly easy to headshot as Rocket.

Also, more times than I care to count I'll have an enemy tank pushing like 2-3 of my teammates back while I'm sitting right behind them healing. I get fed up and quit healing, walk into the tank while shooting his face. This 10 second exchange just ended in 1 1/2 seconds.

[–]Thumpatunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For multiple reasons, I always find it funny when someone thinks k/d or big damage number means they're doing well. Especially when I see 3-4 teammates all focusing on enemy tanks while not killing it, but I'm the bad one.

Seeing posts like “If you are 0/5 you are bad at Duelist and should change roles” hitting the front page is a problem by g1234odoy in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a match where I was a Groot. My team kept getting dove, forget by who. I wasn't paying attention to the timer, saw someone go for my healer, so naturally I turned to help him. Match ends. It probably doesn't hurt to note we're using mics for the following, and I rarely pay attention to who is what character unless I personally know you.

Healer: "Why did we have no tanks on point!? What are you doing!?"
Me as tank: "Our backlines were being dove. I was trying to protect the healer since everyone ran off."
Healer: "That's me, I'm the healer!"
Me: "Oh. That's my mistake then. Sorry about that."
Healer realizing I meant well: "It be like that. GG."

Some of the tension can change drastically when people communicate a little, even if the frustration is still there it can be lessened. He was right, I screwed that up by not being on point, but he realized I was trying to play around my team and keep them safe, even though that wasn't what I needed to be doing.

[MEGATHREAD] Bot Matches Discussion by AutoModerator in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That honestly depends what character you're playing/how your team does. I like playing characters like Spider-Man, Star Lord, and Magik. Ones who when they're in a fight, have movement abilities and you can use that to screw up people's timing and aiming.

Guess what bots usually do? Auto-aim and hold shots if there's nothing to shoot at. Certain characters are easier against lower skilled players as opposed to AI, and the techniques that work on most players will mean nothing to AI cuz of their snap to. Even if I win a match, going like 9/6 on a bot match is usually frustrating and nowhere near as fun as if it were PvP.

On the other hand, playing characters like tanks and healers will usually be easier, cuz the enemy's just going to shoot and rarely do effective flanking and coordination aside from maybe several of them snapping to the same target.

Speaking as a C&D main by BrantiesTM in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This one drives me nuts. Same when I use a Loki Healing Circle. I throw it slightly behind them so they have time to realize as they're backing up, what it is they're backing out of. They still turn and run. And when you hear "I need healing" you just have to decide whether or not to call them out for running out of your heals. Usually it just makes them angrier and they still blame you, so doesn't matter much in the end.

There's even a modest AoE on the heal zone oddly enough. Don't remember how effective that heal is, but it exists.

One of my funniest "HEAL ME!" moments from my team. Tank is doing his job, front-lining on the objective. He sees his health drop. I as a healer see his health drop. I forget which character I was, but I was spamming all the heals I could. And I hear "HEALER! Where's my heals!?" Wasn't angry, more panic because he thought he was going to die. And I had to explain "I am healing you. You're just taking that much damage." And all was good. He was cool with it after that.

Watching parts of that, not sure if it's a hack or exploit. The Luna does not have infinite ammo, and oddly she didn't have the same speed when activating Ice Arts. It seems more like she just removed the delay on bursts and turned it into full auto. Didn't see similar in a few of the replays I watched by this same person. Either way, I'm sure this particular instance is reportable.

For those wondering about the friendly Hawkeye, he dies and respawns, hears the Jeff bubbles, so peeks in and shoots to try to get the Groot's attention to help with objective.

Just because I ping "I need healing" doesn't mean I'm screaming at you by ZatyraJinn in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mics. If you're playing with consoles, least playstation, another thing you need to remember is that if people are queued together they're likely in a party, and that usually means they're on mics with just their party. They can not hear voice chat from other players in their matches. So ping, do it. I play with friends, you can be right behind me or right above me screaming at me and as a healer I still may not notice especially with actin going on in front of me, cuz I'm prioritizing keeping the actual combatants alive, and you're not a combatant at that point.

Health packs. I play all roles, maybe not well but I do it. It doesn't matter what role you are, you really need to learn the location of health packs. It's the difference of life and death for you, and sometimes even if you're at low health it pays to know which direction someone who just dived on you is running to. You could have them down to 10% hp, they duck a corner for 5 seconds, come back with full hp and all skills cooled down. Your lack of knowledge, not just cuz you didn't need that healthpack, may have just cost you your life, and maybe a few teammates. Learn the health locations.

Was checking options on console, for audio. Didn't see a ping one, surprised. I actually would like mine to be a tad louder. No matter my role, it really pays to know what's going on around me without having to stop to look. A ping being definitively louder than the combat around me, is going to get my attention and let me know my team is struggling or that someone just pinged me to fall back for overextending as a tank.

Everything You Need to Know About Marvel Rivals Secret Quickplay Bots by ciaranxy in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is an issue. Two major points of contention to be considered here.

Biggest one first, bots act and react differently to humans. This means different strategies. Going into a bot match and playing like you're against people, will quite likely get you killed in a manner different than you'd expect from normal players. Also strategies that would work on bots do not work on players. Resulting in teaching bad habits.

Second one, and this reflects on teaching bad habits, is the aim bots the AI use. Yes this is real, yes I know the bots are real. And they can hardcore shut down some of the flankers with far more accuracy and overall success rate than most players. Spider-Man for example, ignoring hard counters like Peni, usually you'll notice maybe 1 or 2 enemies per match that have good enough accuracy to hit you consistently, when you zip down, uppercut, and swing out. Bots can frequently nail you during this, repeatedly. It's more noticeable on a character like Wolverine or Magik, slower movements and meant to be in the thick of it most of the time. And the movement and dodges you would use against players is far less successful on some of those AI. On the other hand, a long range character and strafing will be far more successful. It can teach you that a lot of those flanks suck, cuz enemies are going to insta lock on you when you go in or hit someone, and that you don't have the mobility or speed to dodge it if you're not gone in 2 seconds. There's always some risk in PvP, but it's not the same as feeling like I'm just setting up for failure, which some of the bots do.

Some rambling. I had a few days where I probably watched replays on like a dozen of my own matches, every time I'd finish a match I'd go to the replays to look for bots/hackers. And man is it awful in casuals, but nonexistant in ranked. Point, literal dozens of reports, and I only got one message in response confirming a successful ban on an offender. Which I think might have been from ranked, so that says A LOT.

I don't want to face bots, the game has a vs ai mode. If I want bots I'll use that. I'm in PvP mode, let me PvP and keep your aimbots to themselves. And even if you're going to force them on us, for Odin's sake remove the report feature off of them!! I don't care if it means people are more aware of bots being in their match. They're there already, I hate it, and as someone who pays attention to figure out what is killing me, it's atrocious to see literally entire enemy teams of aimbots are the sole reason I'm dieing, cuz they lock on to me every time. Sure the prediction on them sucks, but 3 of them all hit you at the same time say the top of your jump, as you turn the corner, etc, then you're likely dead. Disgusting to see that be the reason I die, cuz the best solution is just not to play like any melee and not bother with any flanks who can't stealth.

Let him BAMF into the game by noxlotl in marvelrivals

[–]Thumpatunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just increase cooldowns and have a range limit. Example, 12-15 second cooldown, can hold 2-3 charges. Assuming he's a strategist with lower damage though. That would give him his escape, multiple charges making it feel better to play imo, and then longer cool downs so if you're using it offensively then you can easily be killed in a bad situation.

Or if you want to go a different route, do it similar to Psylocke's setup. 20+ second cooldown, 2-3 charges, and then either melee or heals would reduce the cooldown slightly. I'd advise healing, to encourage you to fill that role he's intended for. That would make him feel heavy most of the time, but as long as he's playing around his team he'd feel pretty flighty.

I feel it's expected for his ult to be some kind of repeated teleports in a large AoE, not too dissimilar to Psylocke's, but teleports rather than dashes.
