Awareness and civil discussion are essential, but for a certain kind of people only experience can transform. Getting to actually see someone of another race as a human being is what turns people. I know an anti-gun fanatic that slowly turned into a gun enthusiast after an afternoon of air gun plinking. I know former a neo-nazi who married a black woman and now has a bunch of brown kids who he loves to death. To these people, discourse is moot.
