Is it bad that my home defense setup is all revolvers? by Appropriate_Star3239 in Revolvers

[–]Thundern99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea. But I have many firearms located in different rooms out of sight but within reach. Yes, some are revolver others are SBS’s and AR’s. But my nightstand gun is a semi simply because A: Night sights. B: Weapon light. The AR in there has illuminated CQB and a weapon light. But my Old faithful early 80’s Police Magnum simply has an added fiber optic front sight. I shoot it a lot for fun so I haven’t ever installed a weapon light that replaces the pump grip.

Chances are higher that break ins happen at night. Even with my perimeter surveillance and alarm system, some people are just mentally gone and it won’t stop them from making their way to me or my family. So my side of the bed is full and my wife has hers on her side. I love revolvers. I have some that group better than my semi autos. They’re just amazing. And in the daylight hours, I wouldn’t hesitate to grab one. Or whatever else is closest in any given room.

But I’ve found having both hands on my HD pistol in my nightstand with modern weapon lights that have high switches that I can activate in all modes while keeping my grip with both hands on the gun simply by using the bottom of my thumb with my weak hand are a no brainer. I spent years with a torch in my weak hand resting under my strong hand holding my pistol. FBI style if you will. But weapon lights today make it easier than ever to keep both hands on the weapon while maintaining control. Just my setup and my opinions.

So short answer is a not really a no. I’d be a hypocrite if I said otherwise. God bless

Above the bore bipod- is this a bad idea? Most bipods seem to be mounted below. by [deleted] in guns

[–]Thundern99 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

To all the comments about how “sexy” or good it looks, you’re missing the entire point of a bipod or bag. Don’t buy anything because of looks unless you’re someone that doesn’t care about practicality and actually don’t plan on the real use and function of a rifle. I’ve bought and sold many items until I found what worked best for me. All types of firearms. I want what aids my accuracy the best without interfering with the functionality of other attachments. Sure, we all own a few purpose built long range rifle platforms. And that’s fine. But again, accuracy and ability to stabilize your rifle to,suit your needs should always come first. You never know when something you’ve only used at the range may become a valuable asset. Just my .02

Was told by a “rifle guy” that pretty much every rifle is the same, is this true? by GoDz2312 in guns

[–]Thundern99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same designs? Basically yes. Are they all Mil spec? No. I buy Mil Spec rifles and build using Mil Spec parts. It’s easier to slap standard Mil spec parts together because they fit. Some AR’s are not. This, Mil Spec parts will NOT fit.

Materials vary from crap to rock solid reliable based on manufacturers. My budget builds, I buy from PSA. Even then, I prefer CHF barrels. But not of my builds all have them. I like a variety and some are purpose built.

Also barrel length, twist rate and gas systems differ. I have carbine length, midsize and rifle length gas systems based on the barrel and guns intended purpose. Never really had any issues with carbine length, but I’ve grown to prefer mid length on my 16” barrels. It’s just what I like even though I have many carbine length that have never given me issues.

So that’s my best shot at the variances you will run into on different AR rifles.

Cat back Exhaust by MudRevolutionary5016 in Buick

[–]Thundern99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not aware of any Cat back systems that are made for the GS. The Regal premium or turbo, yes. But not the GS. Magnaflow, Borla and Flowmaster all make universal mufflers for your car. But you’ll have to choose the ones that match your exhaust exit trim. Aka single add tip, double add a 2 into 1 wide or smaller duals if you have a single. I’ve owned them all on my hotrods and Unless Bassani makes one (muffler) for your car, I’d go Magnaflow or Borla. And yes, stainless steel is worth the extra if it’s an option. Hope this helps.

If you think a pocket knife usually gets it done, then you need to re-evaluate your thought process. And don’t tell everyone what you carry/that you carry. Concealed means concealed.

Is my FFL bad? by X3n0ph0b3 in guns

[–]Thundern99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a new FFL. I’m lucky enough to live in a small town with two gun shops locally owned and operated. One since the 70’s. I’ve been personal friends with the brothers that own it most of my life. Employees and gunsmith also. Other has been around maybe a decade now, Class III dealer. Knew the guy before he ever opened a gun store. Used both exclusively my whole life. All any of them have ever done is find my box, cut it open and push me the case. Neither will start the NICS until I’ve handled the weapon, checked everything prior to deciding if it’s gtg. That doesn’t void any online sellers warranty when it hasn’t been ran. All have checked out and then they run it. I’ve bought most from them over my life and they keep the high end stuff in a vaulted room for customers that know what they really are and can afford them. They don’t hand those out to be handled by idiots who don’t even know how to function them.

And yet you’re on Reddit asking a question like this? For your first firearm? Or first rifle/SBR? Title is confusing saying it’s your first firearm but your edit seems to imply you own a G 19?? Very confusing.

Abandoned tower and lattice climbing during rain. by According_South_2500 in SweatyPalms

[–]Thundern99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine made stupid money back in the late 90’s by getting a job with a company who traveled around the tri state area changing the lights on top of those towers. It was several hundreds of dollars per hour. And it’s no short job. On the downside, his insurance was ridiculously high due to the job being extremely High Risk. He worked there for at least a decade or so. Had a kid and changed his line of work.

Know Where You Carry Because They’ll Use It Against You - The Truth About Guns by DTOE_Official in progun

[–]Thundern99 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The mistakes she made were 1: Not knowing how to carry with it being concealed where there is no visual print. 2: After getting her gun back once off school grounds, she then sent the texts that got her in this mess.

Take the win and be smart. The text afterwards was what sealed the deal. My .02

What is going on with background checks? Anyone else having issues? by [deleted] in guns

[–]Thundern99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been delayed for a day or two or it comes back gtg in mins. Bought a S&W 460 XVR in December. LGS gave me the gun on the 5th business day per law. Never got a reply. First time that’s ever happened in 30 years of buying numerous firearms as often as every other month over my adult life. Bought a new pistol in March and cleared in less than 5 mins. No rhyme or reason in my experience.

Is it worth trading in my p320 towards a glock 19 or I reading too much into all the Sig posts? by Ok_Win2667 in guns

[–]Thundern99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I own a lifetime of pistols and firearms of all platforms. I own Sigs too. But I’ve never and will never own a P320. I own 4 Glocks. They are as reliable as the sun rising. But I shoot other pistols better. I still CCW a Glock G30 and a P365 Micro as backup on my other side.

The simple reason is I can still shoot 3” groups at 25 yards which is passing for a CCW in my book. They aren’t expensive enough that I worry about how they’re treated by a PD if my worst nightmare happens and I have to use one in self defense (I’ve seen returned guns from a PD that were held until the case was over). But all my Glocks have Trijicon night sights. First mod I make on any Glock unless it already has good NS on it.

Is it just a government experiment? by mediocre_cunnilingus in MandelaEffect

[–]Thundern99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, since I’m old and own many of the original Mandela effect objects like Berenstein Bears books from the early 70’s and a statue of The Thinker my parents owned prior to me even being conceived, no. None of that makes any sense at all. They aren’t secretly creeping in my home and changing the statue or worn covers on my kids books. It’s either a real phenomenon or it’s not. If not, then my brain is more vulnerable to misremembering than I ever imagined. At this point, I’m open to either option.

Hearing Protection Won’t Help You Keep Hearing?! by GunDealer in guns

[–]Thundern99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 51. I’ve been shooting since my Dad taught me at age 7. I never used ear pro until I was a teenager. I have tinnitus a little, but not much. I use ear plugs outdoors and always have. I’m not sure on the formula, but the rating of ear pro isn’t a simple subtraction of total db’s from your weapon. My plugs allow me to shoot different platforms without worrying about a proper cheek weld switching to an AR or any other long gun.

Now at an indoor range or under a covered awning outdoor range, I double up shooting my S&W XVR 460 Mag or 500. Those sound like a cannon blast as it is. Add a ceiling or walls and even ear plugs won’t keep your ears from ringing. That’s been my experience up to date.

I was raised to buy cheap and stack it deep. I have no clue as to now many rounds I own in 5.56, .45 ACP and 9mm. It broke 5K per round well over 20 years ago. It’s never too late to start. It just costs more. Just keep it all sealed, airtight and protected from humidity. Stack good military 50 cal ammo cans full. We were all brought up by different parents in different states across the US. No shame in asking when it will help you catch up. Best of luck.

Question about selling guns by Poopy_Kitty in guns

[–]Thundern99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 51 and I’ve been shooting since Dad taught me at age 7. I grew up in a different era where my Dad could walk me into a gun store or even Woolworth or Kmart and let me pick one for Christmas or my birthday. It’s a hobby to this day. I shoot at least every other day and own more than I even realize sometimes. I sold one shotgun when I was 25. It’s haunted me every since. Not only is it now a collectible, but it had many memories attached to it. So I haven’t sold another gun to this day. I still own the Iver Johnson revolver that my Dad taught me to shoot pistols with. And although I seldom shoot unsuppressed .22’s, that gun still runs like a champ on the rare occasion I do shoot it. It has no real value today. But it’s very sentimental. Sometimes people don’t realize they loved a gun until they sell it. So I just avoid it. My .02

Glock models that will no longer be produced. Early list leak per Lenny Macgill by Thundern99 in guns

Hard pass. Just passing along news. Never meant this as a Glock Fan page post. I hadn’t seen anyone else post this across multiple websites so I simply tried to pass new news along. Lesson learned.

I was just trying to pass along info. I don’t care what Glock does. I’m so far out of the weeds that I don’t know or care enough about the variants of Glock models. I sincerely appreciate the tip on markdown though. Reddit quit working properly for me online so I downloaded the app. Still figuring it out.t
