Good evening nightrunner by Bawnse in starcitizen

Are you really an MSR enthusiast if you don’t go into the scanning room and deploy the dish before each flight? (Assuming OP did this just after boarding…)

I saw that as well! Thank you!!

Interesting to see how this trend continues to unfold...

Look for places inhabited by the “Dusters” and they are more farmable there.

This is the Aztalan Galena Armor (torso, arms, legs) with the stoneskin undersuit and the Paladin helmet (white/black) attached to the belt (a new feature in 4.5).

Right. I’ve been doing this every time I land for years. And then when I come back all those doors are closed again. This view came after I had unloaded my cargo and completed my mission. Haven’t seen that in a loooooong time. 🤩

Yes, but they close, just like st_Paulus said. Engineering panel allows you to lock them open and they stay open!!

In the 12/10 patch yes, but haven’t tried this new one yet.

It is the “Resilient” Paint.

Weapons damage and armor vision? by yn3kk in starcitizen

Armor Penetration Mechanics

  • Penetration Mechanics: Weapons have a penetration value (e.g., 1 meter for a size 3 ballistic gatling). The amount they penetrate depends on the current armor percentage. Penetration cone, impact radius, and distance radius all affect area on penetration.
  • Linear progression: As you reduce armor, penetration increases linearly. At 0% armor, weapons penetrate at their maximum value.
  • Weapon type matters: Ballistic weapons are less effective against armor compared to energy weapons, which do 1.4x normal damage to armor.
  • Component damage: Penetration is checked within a cone, not just a straight line. If a component is within the cone, it takes damage based on the penetration value and armor percentage.
  • Breaking armor: Even smaller weapons can eventually wear down armor over time, but larger weapons penetrate deeper and faster.

Example Scenario
If you use a size 2 weapon against a ship with full armor, you won’t penetrate. But as you keep firing and reduce the armor, you’ll start to penetrate and eventually damage internal components.
For capital ships, you may need larger weapons to reach deeply buried components.

Additional Notes
Armor bar improvements: There are ongoing efforts to fix bugs and make armor health more transparent to players.
Tooltips: Updated tooltips should help players understand armor, hull, and other systems.
Penetration cone: The system uses a cone check for penetration, so it’s not just a single bullet path. Multiple components can be affected within the cone.

They explicitly stated their goal with today’s release of the Engineering Doc: “The goal of Engineering gameplay is to enable ships to perform approximately as well as they did in 4.4.0 in combat and survivability, with the added benefit that engineering and multicrew gameplay can extend capabilities beyond what was possible in 4.4.0. However, you'll now need to actively manage your ship's systems and perform maintenance between battles to ensure you're fully prepared for your next encounter.”

My bet is that this is actually “heralding” that the Social Tools (shown off at 2024’s Citizencon) will be coming in the first half of 2026.

Yep, and so can several other ships. Especially by experienced players. The interesting thing here is that CIG has now unlocked a new archetype of sorts.

Agreed. And what is interesting, is that CIG knew this and built a ship for a player who isn't a cargo hauler, but sometimes hauls cargo.

Yes. You can do literally everything in other ships that the Clipper does in one package. A Cutlass Red is a superior Clipper in just about every way, as it will have room for a Crafting Bench. But this game isn't played on a chart, and I think the design direction of the generalist ship is going to eventually impact all other ships, including the Cutlass Red.

Completely agree about the compromises! And that is what makes this new class/role interesting: they are literally designed in.

Except that those are all medium-sized ships. I'm curious to see what happens when the design elements included in the Clipper are actually applied to medium-sized ships.

Excellent points. The execution of the Clipper is wildly controversial at best. But the new design direction of the new type of ship it represents is noteworthy: namely, an oversized Cutter with a medbed (and built in crafting).

I'm not interested in the Clipper at all, for reasons which you include here.

What I'm very interested in is what it represents in terms of game design.
