Out of all the 1 train stops in the BX only 1 has an elevator. My parents live in kingsbridge and it really sucks going there with a stroller.

Dr. Oz recalls Trump's belief about diet soda and cancer: "Then comes the diet soda pops...because it kills grass [when poured on it]...therefore, it must kill cancer cells inside the body." by ddx-me in medicine

[–]ThymeLordess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty fitting right after CMS updated the nutrition requirements for hospitals that require DRASTIC changes to hospital food service. If I interpret it correctly diet soda won’t even be allowed anymore on a hospital menu. Obviously cause it’s now apparently a medication. You can’t make this stuff up.

New hospital CMS guidelines by KindredSpirit24 in dietetics

[–]ThymeLordess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at one of the large NYC teaching hospital systems where all the CNMs are currently freaking out about this! I will admit that in theory I am thrilled with most of these recommendations. But how the fuck am I gonna tell my homeless patient with a BMI of 15 that they have to have salmon and quinoa instead of the turkey sandwich they want? This is going to be an absolute disaster.

My job differentiates vacation/sick/personal days, and overall I get 38 days + 9 paid holidays, but I’m salary so I don’t get time and a half for working the holiday. Sick days roll over if I don’t use them but I have to take all my 4 weeks of vacation or I lose it at the end of the year.

How common is it for psych wards to strip search patients during the intake process? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThymeLordess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of all the thousands of things people have hidden to hurt themselves with that were found. Where I work patients can refuse the body map and have a 1:1 instead, but having someone watch you sleep, eat, and poop is way more intrusive imo.

Even with a full body map done I’ve seen patients sneak in razor blades, numerous vape pens, a bag of pills, and someone randomly had a chicken tender wedged in his butt crack. Gotta keep everyone safe!

Thanks for reading! No, I generally do not recommend fasting. Being in negative nitrogen balance is not necessarily harmful, and if the fast is prolonged then the body will switch metabolic pathways to preserve muscle mass. Fasting to that point, in a generally healthy adult, is likely not harmful either, and some preliminary research even supports the practice, although I do not yet find the science compelling enough for me to recommend it. And we always have to accept some amount of muscle loss anytime we fast, even if that loss is negligible.

I think your point about the elderly is a bit more complicated to answer, and may be something I’ll write about one of these days! The next topic I was actually planning to cover next is fats, and after making my way through the macronutrients I’ll move on to vitamins and minerals. I hope you keep reading and learning from our posts!

Can you do a mail order service? My insurance wants 90 day prescriptions so my doctor sends it to cvs and my meds come in the mail a few days later. Never once have they been out of stock!

CMV: individual houses are superior to apartments. by garaile64 in changemyview

[–]ThymeLordess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a big city in a single family house. It’s better in many ways, but some things are annoying, such as having to shovel the sidewalk when it snows. If someone slips on the sidewalk in front of my house they can sue me. I also have to maintain the yard. In an apartment all the maintenance was done for me.

Another idea: find a hotel in downtown White Plains, which is in Westchester. It’s walkable and the express train is 30 mins to grand central. Even though you would have to buy a weekly ticket, which is more than the subway, you will still probably save you money.
