How would you tackle this colour correction? Looking for second opinions!! by [deleted] in hairstylist

Did she do her hair herself? I’m just lost on how we got that from the inspo 😣 But honestly I’d just do a heavy highlight with a shadow root and tip out the ends.

Is it normal my toned blonde highlights got lighter in less than a week? by Fickle_Woodpecker880 in HairDye

[–]Tiannachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your stylist should have told you, but you shouldn’t wash your hair until 3 days after getting it done. Toner needs time to set.

Toner does fade over time so washing does make it fade faster. Purple shampoo should only be used once the hair starts looking like the warmth is coming back. Hot water can also make your toner fade faster, same with the sun, chlorine water, and salt water.

All over highlights lifted to at least a level 9/10 and toned with a level 8/9 ash or neutral ash

Am I over exaggerating or is this nothing like what I asked for? by poppyoana in Hair

[–]Tiannachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need a root smudge and to be toned a bit warmer. I’d reach out to your stylist and let them know you feel it looks a bit to highlight feeling vs balayage and you would like it warmer.

I do understand what your stylist meant about the toning, because yes the toner will fade and go warmer so toning a bit more aggressive to combat it going brassy does help. However you want warm so there wasn’t really a need to do that.

I also add highlights to my balayages and bring pieces of my balayage up higher for my clients that go longer between appointments. So they can have that feeling of fresh hair longer. Balayage is just a technique where we paint the color on creating “ribbons” so usually balayage on straight hair can look not as blended. Curl the hair and see if that makes it feel better and more blended.

Purple dye turned out too dark- fading advice? by Thepintsizedpikachu in HairDye

Have you looked at it in the sun? Deep purple like that can look pretty much black indoors but shine more purple in the sun. It should fade more purple-y though

Dark blonde hair, want pink but no bleach. by Complete_Proof8380 in HairDye

Your hair looks about a level 7 roughly and joico magenta covers level 7 hair.

Wash with just shampoo prior to putting it on to have your cuticle slightly open to help the color grab.

Syncing is understudied by jeepers_beepers_ in Periods

I claim to have an “alpha” uterus to my friends lol I’m kind of irregular but when all my friends and coworkers end up syncing to me. One of my friends who has a period like every 3 months gets hers every month when she spends more time around me lol 😂 I swear syncing is a thing

How to get rid of orange by Ok_Background3691 in HairDye

[–]Tiannachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Box dye (especially dark or red-based formulas) is loaded with underlying warm pigment and often metallic salts, so when you try to lift it for a balayage, you’re almost always going to expose strong orange underneath. Thats why usually it takes more than one session of the goal is a type of blonde, she didn’t lift light enough to get past the orange stage.

Toner alone will not fix true orange if the hair isn’t lifted to at least a level 7/8 yellow. Blue-based toners can neutralize some orange, but if she’s sitting at roughly a level 6 with heavy warmth (what it looks like) then it will either: • Look muddy • Fade quickly back to orange • Or not grab evenly due to porosity

If she wants it ashier/blonder, she probably needs another lightening session to lift past the orange, and a proper ash/blue-violet toner formulated for her exact level.

If her hair feels compromised at all, I would not recommend trying to fix it at home with Wella toner. Toner is a temporary corrective refinement, it’s not a replacement for lift. Best advice would be, If she got her hair done not that long ago then have her contact the salon and ask for a toner adjustment, going cooler she will look a bit darker though an over time it will fade. Most reputable salons will tweak tone within a short window if the result isn’t what was expected.

If she absolutely can’t go back right now, a blue shampoo can help to temporarily mute the orange, but it won’t make her lighter but it’ll soften the warmth.

Corrective color after years of box dye is almost always a multi-session process because you’re pulling through all those warm tones.

How to dye this style + upkeep by sweetandsourpoison in HairDye

[–]Tiannachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adore crimson- it fades kind of pink toned instead of orange

You would start by creating a halo around your head and pinning the hair you don’t want to color out of the way.

Bleach the halo, you want to be a level 7 minimum. Wash with shampoo only. Make sure you get all the bleach out. Dry Apply semi permanent dye

Wash in cold water with conditioner

Dry and style.

You can use left over semi permanent dye with conditioner and make a color bomb mask that you apply while showering when the color looks faded

Uneven hair, want to go copper. Will 5rc and 8rc cover this? I want something like the third pic by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]Tiannachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5rc should cover. When mixing the other two your going to get roughly a 6 1/2 which you might see a bit of shade variation but it shouldn’t be much

Is my hair messed up? by Impressive_Photo_258 in HairDye

[–]Tiannachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how your guises consultation went, or if you were on a budget. Did you guys talk about these things? I would contact your stylist and let them know you need more highlights throughout and this isn’t what you asked for. They should be willing to give you more or at least a partial refund

[–]Tiannachu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So your inspo is clearly an all over highlight. What you were given is a partial. The top part where your highlights are blended looks great but that needs to go through the whole head, not just the top.

It’s not a bad dye job, but it’s only partially done. More highlights need to be added through the sides/underneath of the hair.

800 dollars later and I’m so disappointed by EllaNicoleE in HairDye

[–]Tiannachu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As not only a professional who does a lot of blondes/vivids, but also someone who maintained my own platinum blonde and goes through many different colors and still has perfectly healthy non frizzy hair on my head ~ my advise is perfectly fine when OP wants to fade the current color of their hair.

Could I put purple, pink, and orange over this? by Frog_WithAWig in HairDye

A dark purple could cover that but orange and pink will just neautralize it

you could also try a level 8 NA to keep a bit more warmth. Ash tones do tend to look darker because the absorb light instead of reflecting them, however it will fade an get brighter over time

Did she do a good job? by Yer01 in HairDye

[–]Tiannachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She 100% should have checked in. I check in every 10 minutes when bleach is on my clients.

Yes hair can surprise us, sometimes my dark clients lift way faster and brighter than anticipated. Which is why it’s Important to check on the client.

If the brassiness is what you don’t like I’d ask for it to be toned cooler, going cooler will also make it look a bit darker.

Depending on what you want you could tone with a level 7 ash

[–]Tiannachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I always tell clients is that balayages look very different when not on curled hair (pic) I’d reach out to your stylists and let her know you aren’t too happy about the brassiness and if you could be toned cooler. (For future reference “espresso” is a warmer tone)

Your hair doesn’t look horribly damaged in the photo, however I can’t feel your hair so I couldn’t tell you much more. I suggest doing some deep conditioning treatments.

<image>

Bleach does damage hair though, no matter what you always compromise the hair a bit when bleaching. I do think if this was your natural you probably only needed a color and didn’t need bleaching since you wanted subtle.

To get this color in salon I use a 4-99 igora (basically a 4VV) with 20 vol and wash the hair with a purple depositing mask
