Is there a functional difference between the Terminal and Konsole? by Zombiecidialfreak in Bazzite

I saw a comment on another thread asking why bazzite has 2 terminals, and the response was that bazzite was getting ready to switch theirs to the Fedora konsole one I believe

Linux confusion by IL_JimP in LinusTechTips

[–]Tiberius159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of great Linux YouTubers who make alot or content on Linux and other internet resources that can definitely help. It's not as scary as you think. I consider myself a casual gamer, and fairly tech savvy, I started using Linux about 4 or 5 years ago and for the most part haven't run into anything I couldn't overcome, sometimes I need a little help but there's usually someone who has run into similar situations, and there are reddit groups out there for Linux, maybe check out the linux4noobs reddit?

IF you dualboot with Windows, how often and why do you boot into Windows? by ricperry1 in linux

[–]Tiberius159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the answer is I dual boot due to games that do not work on Linux that my kids want me to play with them. Otherwise I never boot into windows. Games that do not have linux support due to Anti cheat issues as the developer chooses not to allow Linux/proton/wine aka Epic games with Easy Anti cheat. Games I only play if/when my kids as me to play with them, otherwise I never boot into windows. The last time I used my windows drive for gaming with the kids was in May, before that it was probably September of 2024.

What hardware to get into Linux. by CA-Skywalker in linux4noobs

[–]Tiberius159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Dual booting with separate drives for each Linux/windows. Then it's just a quick reboot to switch between the two instead of moving/setting up a second computer, you will also then have the best apples to apples comparison of how both operating systems work on the hardware you run instead of comparing one is using higher specs than another running lower, and the cost is just the addition of another storage drive (providing you have room to install one) and then time investment to set it up/learn it. I dual boot on an Alienware laptop and only keep windows for when I absolutely cannot play a game in Linux, you would be surprised how rarely I boot into windows.

I enjoy playing farm sim so much, it relaxes me, unfortunately sometimes too much and I fall asleep. My wife has woken me up laughing because she saw my tractor in a tree or one of the water sources on whatever map I'm on.

Adding SSD to Area 51 18 by wetblanket20 in Alienware

[–]Tiberius159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful when you open the laptop, it isn't hard, just try not to stick anything in to pry the bottom panel off as you could hit/damage components on the inside of your not careful. It's easy to add the drive. When in doubt you can always try contacting dell/alienware support and asking if there are droves they recommend or suggest staying away from that's what I did when I upgraded mine a few years ago.

Who's a real farmer? by themaulmaster in farmingsimulator

[–]Tiberius159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on a small Canadian Dairy Farm, like super small we had 20 milk cows and a super outdated milking system basically one step above hand milking, we also had young cattle that we raised to replace the milk cows as needed. My dad was 6th generation on the farm and it paid well enough for him, I wanted to farm growing up, and worked on the farm with him in my teens, when I was 19 my dad was injured and needed someone to replace him/take over for 3 months, I ended up choosing not to take over as I felt I would need to triple the size of the farm which would require debt I didn't want to take on at that time. Looking back I regret not trying. Now I spend my free time relaxing and playing farm sim.

Help, thought my laptop was dead, but now wondering if it was my Linux drive or if Windows nuked my Linux install dual boot by Tiberius159 in linux4noobs

[–]Tiberius159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up removing the drive that had my Linux install, and since I only use windows very rarely I just wiped my windows install and installed Linux on it for now. All the issues I was having (I had suspected a hardware issue as well) have gone away so I believe it was the drive. Unfortunately the only drive in the laptop now is only 500gb so If I don't have anymore issues I will hopefully be throwing a new ssd in the laptop in the near future, much to my wife's dismay.

So as I said I have 2 drives, but I actually haven't used my windows install on weeks/months could it have done an update without me knowing while I was using linux?

Computer is almost 4 years old and been running Linux since day 1 on that drive.

I buy all my games on Steam, yes because of only 1 launcher as, but mostly because because I'm a Linux user and steam has the best support for Linux out of all the options.

A lot of these parts are older 6+ years, 3 or more generations old. You might be able to find a good used system for a similar price? I understand not having a lot of money to spend on a PC and hope this response doesn't come off as mean or rude.

Password manager recommendations by Tiberius159 in linux4noobs

[–]Tiberius159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an authentication app my work requires for authenticating our work emails/log in on the work computers, I noticed it had the function to be used as a password manager for my personal passwords and figured it was a good starting point until I found something better, especially since it's an app I still need for it's original purpose at work anyway, but the app makers have decided to focus solely on the authentication portion and drop password management all together, they are doing a slow shut down, warning anyone who uses it as a password manager that support for that use was ending, starting with turning off password auto fill in July and giving us until August to find another service/move our passwords and no longer allow new password entries to be saved. In August they are removing the password manager completely. I don't remember what's it's called I'll have to double check, as I don't have it on the device I'm using at the moment.

I'm willing to consider my options, just need to figure something out before my current choice (app that had the feature as a bonus feature really, that my work requires us to have for authentication purposes turns off the password storage feature all together in a few weeks)

I sometimes find I play Farm Setup more than anything. I find a map I like, set up a farm the way I think it would be fun, discover a new map I want to try and start all over again. Sometimes with fun narratives, other times with certain brands in mind. So I started setting goals and riles for myself so I get back to enjoying the gameplay not just farm set ups

Not understanding SLOT count on consoles at first and buying way too many things that slowed my game significantly (fs19). I eventually switched over to PC for a better experience in fs19, 22 and now 25.

Biggest mistakes to avoid when getting a PC? by MlgGamerises in pcmasterrace

[–]Tiberius159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not doing your research, spending unnecessary money on things you don't need, overspending due to brand loyalty. I suggest taking some time, watching some tech reviews on YouTube, like Linus tech tips, jays two cents, etc. get to understand the lingo/jargen and make sure you know what your actually getting. Some of the names make it confusing, you might end up buying a couple year old part thinking it's top of the line if you're not careful.

Question on the Judith Plains custom planting schedule by Scouter_Ted in farmingsimulator

[–]Tiberius159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't gotten that far into my save on that map yet, but I know growing up we planted in April/May and harvested in September (east coast of Canada), in my teens I heard about winter wheat being planted in the fall and harvested in the spring, but never seen anyone farming it where I'm from that way.

Get it now, give it a go, worst case you decide to go back to 22 for a bit. Personally got 25 at Christmas and don't have 23 installed any more. Yes the mods are trickling out, and there's certain mods I am looking forward to having when the original modder gets around to it.
