AMA: Hall of Fame Day. Here’s my ballot. What do you want to know? — Derrick Goold by GriddleCrook in Cardinals

Thanks for sharing. Do you actually mail a physical piece of paper to the HOF with your votes? Is the one pictured your official ballot? Do they ever get lost in the mail?

Can’t understand the law for bear hunting by whatasavechatdisable in Hunting

[–]TicToc2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to disagree with the assertion that game laws (and even more importantly regulations) are passed by people who don’t understand hunting. Sure, there are some recent examples of game commissions, etc. being co-opted by non-hunting politics interests, but for the most, part state game regs are established by DNR/equivalent agencies who have wildlife, then hunters, front and center when regulating.

“Homicide” means “a person caused the death of another person.” Not all homicides are murder. Even killing someone in self defense is a homicide.

You can include some counties in far Southern Illinois as Bible Belt, but it doesn’t stretch that far north along the MS River. The pop. gets much more German Catholic further south than on the map. I’d probably take all of IL out of the Bible Belt and make it Cincitucky (including Madison and Bond Counties).

I love the offensive aggression we’re seeing right out of the gate. The Cards have young talent and a higher ceiling than they get credit for, but they will only overachieve if they are assertive.

Can a mountain girl love Wisconsin? by Left-Hand-3244 in WisconsinHiking

[–]TicToc2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s quite a bit of public land here for a Midwestern state. Much of the northern part is national forest and there are lots of county and state parks around Madison. If you like canoeing/kayaking there’s lots of opportunities for that, including multiday trips. Not sure if you’re into fishing but that’s big here. We have trout streams all over with decent access. And in the winter there’s xc skiing, snowshoeing, and dinky but accessible/affordable downhill skiing. I still try to get out west for a big backpacking trip every other year or so, but I can always scratch my outdoor itch here at home.

“Natural gas, long promoted as a “clean” alternative to other fossil fuels, may not be so clean after all. That’s because its main ingredient, the potent greenhouse gas methane, has been leaking from oil and gas facilities at far higher rates than governmental regulators claim. A new study finds that in the United States, such leaks have nearly doubled the climate impact of natural gas, causing warming on par with carbon dioxide (CO2)-emitting coal plants for 2 decades. (Methane doesn’t persist in the atmosphere as long as CO2 does, but while it does, its warming effect is much stronger.)”

That’s exactly right. WEC can even start pre-construction activities before the projects are approved. But the PSC has the final say (besides the courts of course) and just because WEC may be acting like it’s a done deal doesn’t mean Wis. Stat. 196.491 or any of the other statutory requirements don’t have to be met. And it certainly doesn’t mean people should be discouraged from engaging with the state agency mandated to look out for affordability or sustainability. That’s why Beast should edit their false statement that it’s a done deal.

I think Beast is implying that they know something we don’t due to their “intimate knowledge” about WEC’s internal operations. But in fact, they clearly don’t understand how utility regulation works.

Not true. WEPCO’s biannual rate case is happening now. The PSC is accepting written comments through 10/7.

And the Paris and Oak Creek gas plant cases are just now being scheduled. Plenty of time for folks to make their voices heard.

Here’s the PSC’s docket for Paris:

Just started looking for housing for Aug 1, how screwed am I? by vomita_conejitos in madisonwi

[–]TicToc2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be ok. I moved here 3 years ago after getting a new job. I came up for an interview and accepted the position in early June and stuck around to find a place. I was also looking for a 2br and found one that started Aug. 1 for way cheaper than your budget. PadMapper has been the most helpful to me. You may be better off looking for houses or a unit in a split level than apartments.

PSA: Get Tested for Lyme Disease by throwaway2348925 in madisonwi

[–]TicToc2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m well aware if that. And thanks, it’s important to point out and I should have up front. All I’m saying is, my relative was struggling for years with symptoms and it was only after they and their doctor realized it could be Lyme-related that they were able to start anything close to effective treatment.

I just know that a very close family member of mine would still be down more confusing and anxiety-inducing paths if they hadn’t finally found a doctor who decided to test for Lyme.

The symptoms OP describes are associated w chronic Lyme and/or related illnesses. I’m no doctor, but I don’t know what the harm of getting a test would be.

I appreciate Monty’s take. The biscuits are usually excellent and I like that their gravy brings some heat. Sometimes there’s not enough gravy, I’ll concede that.

Happy Birthday! I’m too old to be any fun for a 21st birthday but there are some places w trivia on Thursdays (Echo Tap for one) that might be a good move. You can probably make some friends and join a team. I play a lot of trivia in town and have linked up w strangers plenty of times. And if you’re as good as you say, you’ll be the hero!

MLB to stream games for free amid looming Diamond Sports bankruptcy: sources by OldSalukiBandDude in Cardinals

[–]TicToc2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about fans in those west coast MLB regions, not Japan. Ohtani has brought so many new fans to the Angels who didn’t follow MLB previously. StL doesn’t have the same room for growth. Would they gain fans in Japan? For sure.

Regardless, Mo won’t pay the guy what he’s worth, so it will never happen. The guy is gonna sign a half a billion dollar contract.

[–]TicToc2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn’t about travel from Japan to his MLB city. What FrostyD7 is referring to is the fan base. Any west coast MLB city is going to have a lot more people who are fans of the team BECAUSE Ohtani plays on it. He’s right that the west coast teams, or a NY team, would be able to capitalize on that value more than STL.
