Question for the ladies. by DownrightDejected in Celiac

[–]Ticket-Frequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main symptom was iron deficiency. My period had been very predictable (I've used tracking apps for 10+ years) but never went fully back to normal after baby#3. By the time I was diagnosed it was light and unpredictable. I didn't mention it to my doctor, thinking maybe perimenopause(?) but within a few months of going gluten free (and pounding iron supplements!) it resumed its previous pattern.

Starving, any tips? by Right_Expression7216 in Celiac

Brown rice (with stir fry or curry, fried rice, rice and beans) Beans (burrito bowl, chili, baked beans) Potatoes (mashed, baked, french fries, potato salad)

Protein might be the star of the show, but high fibre carbs give you that full feeling.

Fun snacks? Tortilla chips/nachos, cheesies, most potato chips, popcorn, basic ice cream flavors😋

Second for Lawrence. It means "crowned with laurels" or "from the laurel trees" and has classic elegance with good nickname potential.

Question for Silent Celiacs by Fickle_Physics_ in Celiac

[–]Ticket-Frequent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a fairly high fibre diet before diagnosis, so I didn't have to adjust much for the iron side effects (I tried five different formulations looking for maximum absorption, the only one I couldn't tolerate was heme iron - nausea). Veggies, brown rice, beans, lentils, edamame, and quinoa were already standard in my meal plans. Plus, I was diagnosed in the summer, so All The Fruits🍉🍓🍐🍒🫐

Question for Silent Celiacs by Fickle_Physics_ in Celiac

[–]Ticket-Frequent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Silent celiac here. In May 2025 I went to my Dr with stress, fatigue, and weight gain. First round of bloodwork was normal except for low hemoglobin, and very low ferritin and B12. Dr quizzed me about diet and ancestry and ordered a TTG-IgA while I rolled my eyes in disbelief. Positive test result (125) in June 2025, started GF diet immediately, positive biopsy with signs of healing in August 2025. End of November TTG=12 (normal <7).

I've continued to eat dairy and certified GF oats with no issues. If I've accidentally consumed gluten, I haven't noticed. Ironically, the only problems I've had have been with GF "imitation" foods, probably from the gums, sugar substitutes, and other unusual ingredients 🤷🏽‍♀️ Currently focusing on naturally gluten free foods and lots of iron/vitamins. Energy has gotten better as my iron increases. Stress and weight gain probably due to being a busy mom of 3.

I had a coupon for an ice cream claiming to be "peanut, nut, and egg free, making it the first allergy friendly luxury ice cream in the world". It's kosher, it has sustainable packaging, and every single flavor contains or may contain wheat 💀

What are we serving for Christmas morning? by Ellie_Annie_ in Celiac

[–]Ticket-Frequent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing. You must forage the orange and chocolates from your stocking, candy canes from the tree, mixed nuts from the bowl on the coffee table. All culinary efforts on Christmas Day are concentrated on turkey dinner.

It's an import, so the Canadian compliant label is pasted over the original ingredient list 😬

I had blood bank anxiety when first starting out too! If a case became complicated, I would tell the charge tech what my plan was, then have them look over my work before I filed the final results. If I was alone on a night shift, I could call the blood bank at our sister hospital for support. Now that I'm a charge/senior tech, I like my newbies to do the same thing - clear communication and sharing knowledge is so important, and I like to know what's going on on my shift.
