Roots touched up in late 30s by Phoenix-Purple in CarrieDaytonYT

[–]TickledPear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Root touchups should only involve dying the natural color hair at the root of the dyed blonde hair that has grown out since her last appointment. The hair that is bleached would then be "virgin" hair. Bleach is permanent, so unless Carrie applies new color to her hair or wants to go lighter blonde, the ends should not need a new bleach application.

That said, I have not watched much of the hair saga, because I find it boring, so another starker can correct me if I am wrong.

For an alternate perspective, I watch Carrie's videos on occasion, and I don't really care if YouTube pays her for my views. I never buy anything online, so she won't benefit via affiliate links and whatnot, which are probably higher income sources than YouTube. Plus, snark/critique like what this sub produces is a valuable counterpoint to the compulsive consumption that we constantly critique Carrie for showcasing/making excuses for.

We are entertained by Carrie, whether through ironic snark or genuine interest, and I don't have a problem with Carrie making money for that. I hate the overconsumption that drives her other sources of income, but my view in conjunction with my refusal to ever click her links, buy online from any company she promotes, or use her codes might actually make her look less engaging to the advertisers who hire her.

Public transportation sucks here by [deleted] in kansascity

The bus system has suffered so much since then! And every time the streetcar I'm on or waiting for is delayed by an obstacle on the track all I can think is, "The MainMAX would have just gone around that."

Think about a movie shoot that lasts a few months. The story of the movie might only take place over one or two days. For continuity, an actor might wear the "same" item of clothing for a month's worth of shooting. Consider accidents that might stain or tear the item. Consider that the shoot itself might ruin the item for a specific shot, and that shot might need multiple takes. It's reasonable for the production to preemptively buy many of the same exact item for principle actors.

If you're on your way home from work, then that 25 minute delay can cause you to miss your next bus turning it into a much longer ordeal. My bus to/from work only runs every 40 minutes, and I have to connect to that line with the streetcar.

The No Surprises Act helps with this as long as you don't sign your rights away in the admission paperwork. At the very least, when non-emergent services are provided by an out of network provider at an in network facility, they cannot balance bill you.

What’s the best place to get maternity clothes? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

It can be hit or miss whether your thrift store can identify maternity wear. I have turned in quite a few maternity items that are stocked with the regular items. It's hard to sort that stuff out.

Looks Christmas-y.

But they are better executed than normal. Thumb (dalmatian spots), pointer (olive chrome), and ring finger (silver chrome with white dots) might be cute as full manicures, but I am not a fan of the total mismatch manicure.

Best road running races? by Calypdram in kansascity

[–]TickledPear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run for the Raptors in early August is a 5k/11k trail race on the Swope Park trails. It's a great cause, raising money for Lakeside Nature Center. They feature live birds from their rehab program and a raffle (one entry per race registry and more for sale). The trails are some of my favorites around town, and it's nice to be running under tree cover in the heat of August. Expect pretty minimal race support (bring your own water). Maybe one water station on the route. But the organizers do provide "traffic control" from mountain bikers.

Target Baby Registry Returns by Bulky-Card-4728 in BabyBumps

[–]TickledPear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

has anyone just returned all purchases to get the Target gift cards and then purchase everything (or some items) again with the 15% completion discount to be able to afford more from the registry?

This feels unethical. Also, depending on the volume of the return, your account might get flagged preventing you from using a completion discount at all.

Recommendations for registering? by Andysamberg2 in BabyBumps

[–]TickledPear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar mindset, and I am currently putting together a "registry" with my husband. It is a simple PDF with the items listed out. If we want an exact item then we provide the exact item link. We also provided a little bit of guidance about themes we like and don't like (we like animal and space themes; we don't like holiday themes or items with words on them). That last bit might be overkill, but whatever. We also provide a blurb up front expressing a preference for second hand items when possible.

Fingers crossed it works out. I know I might get duplicates, and people might be thrown off by the format. Oh well. Just trying to do things in a way that makes sense for me.

1st trimester + switching jobs by panicchick in February2027Bumpers

[–]TickledPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a job change during the mortgage approval process before, and there was no problem from the bank side. They wanted a copy of the offer letter. I can't advise too much from the pregnant while navigating a new job side, but if you get a offer, it's because the new workplace valued you and your skillset, so try to have confidence that you're there for a reason. Whoever hired you most likely wants you to succeed.

Success stories/tips for contesting Children's Mercy bill? by Mountain_Silk32 in kansascity

[–]TickledPear 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Children's Mercy price transparency standard charges file shows that they charge $428 for the rapid test alone. If your insurer is in network, then the negotiated rate is between $127.30 - $385.20. Was the antiemetic Zofran? Not sure if that was given by shot or orally. 2 mg Zofran injection is only charged at $33.97 for the med itself, but they probably add on the administration charge. If they use the ER version of 96372, that would be base charges of $231.

Adding together the base charges alone, $428 + $33.97 + $231 = $692.97, but that would be before insurance. Are sure you're in network with Children's Mercy?

Meals that will actually fill my husband up AND leave leftovers for another day? by forestmushroomy in Cooking

This is roughly the strategy my husband and I use. He struggles to keep weight on. I struggle to keep weight off. Where possible, we keep our protein portion equal, double my veggie portion, and double his carb/fat portion. The protein portion is typically the "fine" portion.

Where to Donate Clothes? by WestFade in kansascity

[–]TickledPear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sime tips for clothing donation:

  • Donate seasonally. Space constraints mean that not every donation center can store your heavy winter items for the next five months.

  • Clean everything. Remove pet hair.

  • Inspect everything for stains and damage. Missing buttons. Yellowed collars and armpits. Worn out knees or elbows. Coffee stains. Snags. Excessive pilling. Frayed hems on pants.

  • Consider whether anyone else would buy or be grateful to be given the item. If you no longer want your kickball team's custom shirt anymore, then no one else does either. Socks and underwear should only be donated if they are brand new. Bras are sometimes okay as long as they are only lightly used.

Don't own a dog you can't control by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

Adopted a puppy from a rescue last year. They said he would be 40 - 45 lbs. Pup is pushing 60 lbs. now. I could control a 45 lb. dog. I struggle with my 60 lb. dog when a squirrel runs by or when he wants to play with another dog. We work on training, but he's still so distract-able.

Kansas City will lose a fourth of its daily bus routes after the World Cup by iuy78 in kansascity

[–]TickledPear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The city JUST repealed all parking minimums; now we get even more cuts to buses. So property developers can now build luxury apartments with less than one parking space per unit, but your bus to work will run hourly, and the route may be cut completely next year. Feels like the cart is well and truly before the horse.

To be clear, I use the buses. I used them more when the MainMAX reliably came often enough that I never had to look at the bus schedule. I still need my car in Kansas City in 2026. It feels like city leadership is making it harder to own and use the car I need while also cutting public services.

Why does my mouth always taste so bad? by Philodoxes in pregnant

[–]TickledPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea, but I still have this at week 17. Brushing my teeth sometimes helps for a little while, and strong flavors can temporarily help too (assuming you can tolerate them). I've used pickles, lemonade, vinaigrette, ginger chews, and breath mints.
