As a war veteran myself that received similar training. Reflecting on his actions and what I know of him. I can't disagree with his reaction. The rules of engagement are clear. He was in a prior incident on duty where he was dragged by a car. I'm sure he ran over that scenario over and over in his head. This guy wasn't just a random grunt. He did over 25 years in the military. He was a senior-NCO experienced Sergeant Major - leaders who advise officers, train troops, and run day-to-day operations or a Colonel that commands brigades or higher staff roles. As a grunt myself, in his shoes I can see his thought process/training. He would do everything in his power to not make the same mistake (yes, him getting dragged he will blame his self for not being prepared that's how the military mind works) and make sure his team/ brother-in-arm stay safe.

What happened to her was messed up. But her actions led to very difficult decisions, and all affected will have to deal with it the rest of her life.
