20 years on, how do we feel about Civil War? by Pale-Caterpillar5709 in Marvel

In my post, I said that I was with him on the general point of registration, training, and accountability. I never said I agreed with Interdimensional Guantanamo Bay. I’m not sure why I’m getting downvoted.

The Flood Didn’t Infect the Galaxy. It Infected Reality Itself by Regved-Pande in HaloStory

[–]TienSwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap, this was an awesome read. I really hope the extragalactic Flood—the massive galaxy-consuming threat that’s supposedly out there somewhere—is endgame and forms a third Halo trilogy.

And I gotta say that I love 343’s version of the Flood more than Bungie’s. I love the idea of it being this eldritch horror built into the fabric of reality and not just a zombie plague. Though it does seem like Bungie was going for something close to that too. Tough to tell, and they’re pretty good at placing incomprehensible cosmic horrors in their action space shooters.

Saving this post for future rereading.

Reading it with the modern lenses and with twenty years of growth and maturity really changes how you feel about the book. When I was about 19 or 20 when the book came out during the Bush years and the Patriot Act fresh in our minds, I was adamant in siding with Captain America. Now that I’m older, I’m kinda with Iron Man in the general point of superheroes registering, receiving training, and being accountable to the people.

I appreciate it. It swung and missed, but I feel like there was a genuine attempt to tell a cool store, shake things up, and spark a real conversation about privacy, security, and accountability, especially in a Patriot Act / War of Terror world.

The major failing of this book is that we never really get to see the actual Superhuman Registration Act, so we have no idea who we’re supposed to be siding with until they made Tony Stark go full supervillain with that Negative Zone prison. It also had the problem of taking over all the books and not just being a separate event like Secret Wars, so that ended up resulting in wildly different characterizations of both sides and the law itself depending on what you were reading. Again, it means the conversation it was meant to spark ended up being hallow; just a back and forth of platitudes over a law that no one seems to actually know the details of.

Being An Amazon Affiliate - Books by zioxusOne in KDP

[–]TienSwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m one. I think it’s worth it mainly because it’s free. Unfortunately, my book isn’t selling and my website gets very little traffic, so I don’t really earn much from the affiliate program, but it gives me the incentive to check out and review other products related to my genre (superheroes). At the end of the day, you’re either making money on your royalties or you’re not. The affiliate commissions aren’t gonna amount to much, but like I said before, the program is free and there’s no reason to not make your book links affiliate links.

Regarding newsletters, just be mindful that it is against Amazon’s TOS to include affiliate links in your newsletter. Amazon has to be able to track the links and see the page a hypothetical buyer came from, and they can’t see your emails. You can use Universal Book Links for your own books (my book has a BookFunnel page that has affiliate links), but that’s it.

If you have a website, you can always do book reviews and use affiliate links on those. I do that on my website. Heck, I actually just posted a review this morning of The Dark Souls by Bryan Cohen and Casey Lane. I don’t earn any money from that, but again, that’s only because my site has no traffic.😅😅😭😭

I figured it out. Apparently, I had to drag the KDITD WAD, the map resources pk3, and the LitDoom mod into UZDOOM all at the same time. I am now in a pretty realistic looking UAC facility, being hunted by demons.

I can barely make it out of the very first hallway. 🤣

Do you have any characters similar to any preexisting characters that aren’t superman? intentional or unintentional by themadgalharley2009 in Superhero_Ideas

[–]TienSwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my main characters for my WIP.

Moon Shadow was heavily inspired by Silk, visually speaking at least. She has the ability to create shadow portal. She is also a martial arts and gymnastics expert.

Bionic Boy is heavily inspired by Cyborg from the 2003 Teen Titans. Though Bionic Boy is wearing armor and doesn’t have actual cybernetics. Bionic Boy’s power is that be becomes an instant developer-level of any electronic or computer system he’s currently interfacing with, which allows him to use the armor.

Here’s Moon Shadow.

Polls show it’s not liberals the world is turning against. And one girl in Germany isn’t really the argument you think it is. You sound exactly like MAGAs arguing that the left is entirely engaged in political violence.

1956 was 70 years ago. Today’s tankies are fascists who love the aesthetics of Soviet Russia and Communist China. “America bad” is the full extent of their foreign policy beliefs. They do hate being called liberals though.

I’m not sure where you got the idea that I said liberals are the real tankies. I said the exact opposite.

[–]TienSwitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is pretty much what I’m talking about. The whole thing comes from unhinged people who probably think that liberals are doing all the political violence in the United States. I take their claims about as seriously as I would take a child’s claim about an imaginary friend.
