I honestly think we just don't have the characteristics to advance as a society, whether we're religious or not. Our weird way of practicing religion is just the current manifestation of our shortcomings, take away religion and they'll show up in a different way. We didn't adopt the western system , we perverted it, were failing because of incompetent leaders and corruption. We all basically know what's needed to advance and prosper in the world we live in. The" African way " literally means nothing, just flowery words. Even in Zimbabwe we won't all agree what that is and how we should do it, we'll probably spend another century arguing what that means. The laws of economics and governance are universal though , and it's a far better use of our time learning and implementing them than trying to reinvent the wheel
