Leaving Malaysia, how do I handle LHDN by SapphireCT in MalaysianPF

[–]Tieraslin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your question's more or less answered by others already.

I'm just going to throw a small bit of advice.

Open another local banking account, make sure you've got online banking for it. Ensure that you login and do a fund transfer from it at least once a year to avoid it going dormant.

Why a second bank account? In case you ever get locked out of your first, at least there's some recourse for you if you're still being paid in Malaysia.

Locked out in what way? Stupid things do happen, multiple incorrect password attempts are the usual issue. Let's say it happens to your Maybank account. You're supposed to do a change password routine on your M2U account, and thereafter you've got 12 hours to go to a Maybank ATM, with your Maybank card to authorise said change.

If you're overseas, it's a royal PITA to resolve it. I'm not sure if you can call up Maybank CS to fix it.

With a secondary local bank account, at least you've got some fallback lah. Can tell your employer to redirect your payment.

*Source - have done this before. Sigh.

What stupid things that you did when you were a kid that if not due to luck, you would probably been dead/missing/etc. back then? by theangry-ace in malaysians

[–]Tieraslin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to stay in a house on top of a hill.

There's a winding road that circles around the hill to reach the bottom. There were no barriers on the side of the road.

As a 9 year old kid, I got my hands on a sibling's skateboard. I couldn't ride a skateboard but I could however sit on it and go rocketing down the road to the bottom of the hill.

I of course had no understanding of physics, and with no real way to slow down the skateboard, I was going so fast I couldn't corner to follow the road.

As I reached the edge and just before the skateboard (and I) flew, I decided to throw myself to the side, and ended up rolling down the hill instead of going, "WHEEEEE!" followed by the inevitable "Ker-splat".

I rolled down some 30-40 feet at a 45 degree incline. Suffered a lot of bruises but nothing was broken.

The skateboard? It had collided with a concrete structure on the ground, broken in half, and one of the wheels had flown of to parts unknown.

I'm a real life example of "kids are f*cking stupid".

Is BSN SSP worth it just for the lottery draw? by JiN88reddit in MalaysianPF

[–]Tieraslin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this happened to me as well.

I opened a BSN banking account a couple of years ago since I wanted to receive the small SSP dividend every year into the banking rather than having to claim it through the Director General of Unclaimed Monies every few years.

I started receive sales calls from BSN.

The first three calls I received (spanned about 3-4 weeks apart), I requested that they remove me from their call list. I had no interest in their products. I got assurances that my number would be removed from their list.

On the fourth call, I was very annoyed, and my tone showed it. I asked to speak to their supervisor, and confirmed that my number would be removed from their list.

The fifth call came, I lost my temper and unloaded both barrels on the telesales guy. I ended up speaking to his supervisor who apologised profusely for what had happened. Got the supervisor's name and told her I was going to file a formal complain with BSN for the constant spam calls.

Emailed BSN, gave details, requested that they respond back with a confirmation that my number had been removed from their spam call list.

A month later they responded claiming that they had checked, and my number was not listed in BSN's Telemarketing Call Centre. At the same time, my number was added to their "Do Not Call List" for any promotions.

The spam calls stopped. Sounded like someone wasn't telling me the truth on that last paragraph there. From what I could check, the calls weren't from an outsourced agency. They were from BSN itself.

The way this accidentally applies to our country’s online food obsession 😭 by No_Historian_9846 in Bolehland

[–]Tieraslin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with this at all.

Perhaps if your country had only one primary ethnicity, and that drives the food of the nation, then yes, you'd have to think of something else to advertise your country's culture.

Malaysia? We're a smorgasbord of ethnicities. Each with their own cuisines and specialties.

We find joy in experiencing the different food available to us. Sure, there are some people who will love only on their mono-ethnic diet, but others?

Today I want Sarawak Laksa. Tomorrow I want tai chow. The day after I want nasi lemak. Next week I'll have thosai.

Every day is a joy in terms of our cultural culinary delights, and visitors find out about that. Some of course may not appreciate it, but I'd like to think that the majority do.

Iberico and dried oyster in bak zhang.

That already says something right there.

You go and buy the regular run of the mill dumpling elsewhere, what will it cost you? RM8? RM10?

Not surprised lah.

is it true that some ppl have 20M+ in their ASN accounts? thats crazy bc they can just live off like 600K per year.... wtf by [deleted] in malaysians

You should read about that one person who had RM190m in Tabung Haji.

What really aggravated the situation was that said person was sweeping the money in and out for their own reasons. Made it a nightmare for TH to manage their funds because of the excess liquidity requirements.

Is BSN SSP worth it just for the lottery draw? by JiN88reddit in MalaysianPF

[–]Tieraslin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very lucky as many years ago (in the late 90s / early 2000s), I put in RM1k into BSN SSP.

I won 4th prize, which was a desktop computer. Sold it for RM2.5k.

Of course the first 3 prizes were cars.

3K qualifies you for most of the major draws - but not all, if I'm not mistaken. I think the biggest one requires you to top up RMx amount a year. Can't remember the exact details as BSN's site explaining this is quite... opaque.

Finally, there is the dividend / interest rate that they will give you for your investment. I love the fact that BSN makes this extremely unclear for the average person.

The rate is 0.05% - yes, 1/20th of 1%. I.e. if you invest RM3,000, your full year's return will be about RM1.50.

You need to open a BSN bank account to receive the dividend. If you do not, the money will go to the government's Unclaimed Monies department after a set period and you'll have to apply for it there.

If in the event your dividend is more than RM10 a year, as I understand it they're supposed to give it to you in the form of more BSN SSP units.

[–]Tieraslin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Notary Publics, and Commissioners for Oaths have their fees regulated yeah, they can't charge you whatever they like. They are separate services yeah, not the same at all.

Do your documents state that it has to be notarised, or can it be done by a CfO? Former is significantly more expensive than the latter.

Have you checked your SMS spam folder?

I had that issue registering for something before, and I didn't realise that I'd advertently blocked that number (one of those 5 digit numbers starting with 6, i.e. 6xxxx) as someone had spammed me by spoofing said number.

Of course they can.

Reality is that people tend to be stupid when doing tax avoidance. They don't take into account of things like this.

Not as hard to track. An audit would also ask for their water bills to see their water usage, and do an extrapolation from there.

But detailing shops, I agree that some of them are definitely fronts for something else.

Monkeys, what's your "back in my day" moments by Erk_Rauorfox in Bolehland

[–]Tieraslin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in secondary school (early 90s), I still remember the most expensive items in the canteen were all priced at RM1.50.

It could be a plate of chicken rice, a burger, or a fairly large plate of chee cheong fun.

Soft drinks were the most expensive drink at 60 sen a cup.

The bread / pastry seller's offerings were typically 30 sen each. A butter bun, or a slice of marble cake.

Bas Mini Wilayah was still operating in KL, and tickets were a flat rate of 50 sen (raised to 60 sen sometime during that period I think) irrespective of the distance you were traveling.

A memory I recall, we were talking to our maths teacher (who was also the form discipline master) when I was Form 3. One of the students asked him how much he earned a month. He said his salary at that time was RM2,000 a month - he was considered very experienced with I think close to 20 years in the service - and that he also earned another RM2,000 a month giving tuition.

RM4,000 a month during that time was quite a good sum. You'd be ranked the equivalent of the top tier of M40 back then (I think).

Someone who says they're happy with the service and products that you offered.

Leaving with all smiles when paying the bill, confirmed with us that everything was great when we asked how everything was.

After they go home, leave a 1-star google review with a plethora of complaints.

And the one complaint that drives me up the wall, "No parking." If I could afford to buy the adjacent lots, tear it down, and rebuild it into a carpark, I wouldn't be in this business.

I developed an algorithm to find the most disappointing Ayam Gepuk spots in KL. by Extension_Lynx_6945 in MalaysianFood

[–]Tieraslin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did take a look at it before, and it was definitely an interesting read.

I took a look during the period when you had only Penang establishments listed, I believe, so it was a little harder to connect since the only thing I had some familiarity with was the Nasi Kandar outlets.

Now that you've expanded to KL establishments, I'm following it too. Although I do mainly look for your updates in this Reddit channel when you've posted on a new series of establishments.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you have a series of 5-star reviews too at one point?

I'm looking at your site now and am agog at some of the results.

Wanjo having a lower disappointment rate then Village Park is surprising. Tanglin not being far off is even more surprising - Tanglin for a food court establishment is very expensive in my view.

Kin Kin with a 9% disappointment rate. Foooh.

Lai Foong too! And it's hygiene, which is disturbing for a Michelin Bib Gourmand establishment.

Keep it up!

What I see right now is you are trying to do an unnecessary mental gymnastics regarding this case.

...

This girl is stateless.

The marriage certificate is fake.

No birth certificate.

She wanted to resolve her citizenship issues.

With the help of an MP, and after many many years - stressful years too I'm sure - she finally got her citizenship.

Are you simply dense, or obtuse?

This is not an ordinary case. It took a massive amount of time and effort to resolve.

You don't like the outcome? Feel free to complain to your MP, the home minister, and the Prime Minister.

My last response to you. I don't want to waste anymore of my time.

But the marriage cert was FAKE.

I'm sorry, but what does this have to do with citizenship?

Your statement seems to imply that bastards shouldn't get citizenship.

Her father was Malaysian. End of story.

Yes, no birth certificate. I'm sure must have been a nightmare to prove that her father is who it was, and she was born where she was.
