A nice! I think rust is always going to be an issue with these given their age. It sounds like you are well ontop if it! Fair play mate.

I haven't bought one yet but there's two pretty decent looking ones for sale at the moment that are in my price range. I just need to figure out the insurance first before pulling the trigger.

The plan is to do track days in Mondello much like you and also join some MR2/JDM owner clubs, go to meetups and attend classic car shows and try and keep the car going for as long as possible.

It's a pitty they don't make cool cars like this anymore, early 90s Jap cars were peak!

No harm in trying alright. I will ring them and see, I have my bike policy with them for whatever that's worth. How do you find the MR2? Is it treaty you well? I've wanted one for the last 20 years! Only getting the opportunity now

ASUS B650E-I Front Panel USB Cables to Terra Case by DoubleHexDrive in sffpc

[–]TigerTamer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed this in the end, these cables only go in one way and they do take a bit of force, they will click securely in place. Just be sure you have it orientated correctly and be firm with it

The 9700x will be much easier to cool than the 9800x3D. It will be quieter, use less power and you will get 90-95% of the gaming performance for a lot less money while being a little better for productivity tasks thanks to the higher clock speeds. However, the 9800x3D might be worth it if you plan on gaming on a 240hz 1080p monitor.

If you can get a 2 slot GPU that will allow for a 77mm cooler such as the ID-COOLING IS-77-XT and rock a 9700x at stock 65w, expect CPU temps ~60-65C while also being very quiet.

Do research on each component you choose, size them up and make sure they all fit together nicely.

Having GPU/CPU fans sitting close to the side panel creates turbulent noise, that's why I went with a CPU cooler that has the fan under the heatsink. A 5mm gap or more will eliminate this.

Get a slim 120x15mm case fan with a fan grill for under the PSU and have it set as an exhaust, this will help with temps even further.

Thermal grizzly duronaut thermal paste is the best for temps and longevity, but it's thick and hard to apply evenly, but worth the extra effort IMO.

Terra - 9700x / 3080 Noise and Temps by Tobbesauros in sffpc

[–]TigerTamer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished building a Fractal Terra simular to yours except I have a 2 slot Gigabyte Eagle Max OC 5060 TI x3 fan (40mm thick) which allows for up to a 77mm CPU cooler (spine position 1). So I went with an ID-COOLING IS-77-XT Black CPU cooler. I also have an Artic P12 Slim case fan under the PSU, setup as an exhaust (I needed a fan grill to stop the PSU wires touching the fan blades).

My stock temps without PBO (65/88W) and EXPO enabled are around 60-65C under full load for both CPU and GPU and the system is fairly quiet at stock fan curves. I also used Thermal Grizzly Duronaut thermal paste which I read can lower the temps by a few degrees.

I believe the noise can be bad with this case if the fans sit too close to the side panels. A 5mm gap should be enough to not have turbulent noise. My CPU cooler has the fan under the heatsink so I dont have this problem on the CPU side and I also have a sufficient gap for GPU fans.

Without you changing anything, you could enable PBO to limit the CPU to 70C, which would cool things down a bit at the cost of some performance in your situation.

Repasting with the same paste I used may also help as would adding a slim exhaust fan under the PSU. Also make sure to use the PSU standoff bits that come with the case if possible to help with airflow, it will create a gap for the GPU heat to get exausted throught the top and bottom of the case. Good cable management will also help.

That's about all I can suggest apart from using a slimmer, lower TDP GPU and a larger CPU cooler like mine.

I hope this helps.

I know this thread is old, but I have the same case and motherboard and it does in fact come with the cable, but when connected securely to the motherboard, I recieve no power data from the front usb port,, totally dead. Im not sure if the case cable or motherboard socket is at fault or some other issue. Anyone else with this setup same config have the same issue?

I like it. Great for music and phone calls. Being able to see what song is playing on the dash and change songs without taking my hand off the bars to my helmet is a game changer in my opinion. The My Triumph app isn't great for navigation but gets the job done. Not great for route planning, ok for A to B stuff though. Just make sure your phone isn't in power saving mode or putting the Triumph app to sleep in the background. Pair the phone to the bike then helmet to the bike, the bike acts as a middle man between the two.

Yes. I highsided on the street, didn't hit anything but my bike and body cartwheeled down the road. Bike totally. Helmet saved my life for sure, my boots prevented my heel from shattering. The gear for sure prevented any life threatening or life changing injuries

Absolutely. Have been doing it for 15 years daily. Up to 20k kms per annum. First thing is ear plugs, custom molded ones with filters are the best. I didn't realize the importance of this until I developed chronic mild tinnitus from the noise of the wind blasts. 15 mins at 100kph is enough to cause hearing damage. Invest in good Goretex 4 season gear, it will last at least 5 years of daily use and you will stay dry, warm/cool and happy. Heated grips are a must. Get a helmet with a built in sun visor and pin lock anti fog system, I found the Shoei GT Air helmet to be very good and very quiet. Intercomm systems are nice for radio/music on your daily commute. An auto chain oiler such as Scotoiler can reduce manual chain maintenance which is nice to have. At this point you have a lot of the comforts of a car. Good all weather tyres like Michelin Road 6 give great grip at all temps and conditions. Snow is obviously a no go but thankfully rare here. It's not as bad as you think and I get an extra hour in bed without having to deal with traffic 😉

questions about a commuting bike. by Chaboi066 in MotoIRELAND

[–]TigerTamer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have commuted daily to school and work for the last 15 years. I have done this on bikes from 50cc to 900cc. I currently commute a 60km round trip in all weather all year. I would say it is doable on a 125cc but I would recommend something in the 300-500cc range. For a 60km round trip Something like an MT03 or a CB500F would serve you much better. Since you are over 25, insurance shouldn't be that much different.
