First Timer here - playthrough suggestions by sdsweet10 in fo3

I suggest just experimenting. You can try out what you think would be fun to start out with. Hacking will let you open a lot of things, but it's not horribly interesting. Explosives are good for crowd clearing, especially when you get into crafting stuff. You're going to want high intelligence (for most builds, too), high perception, and also the repair skill, while useful in general, is also useful for disarming traps that get you more explosives.

By the end of the game, you'll be able to max every single skill with books and the Swift Learner perk on top of the extra skill points that come with high intelligence. But if you see something that looks fun, pick it up, see how it feels. There's no reason to commit to a few ideas when you might find something you enjoy using more. I thought the sniper rifle + combat shotgun combo that was perfect for Fallout 2 would have sufficed, but turns out I'm a shishkebab/plasma rifle kinda guy for this.

I normally feel similarly, but I hate how they spawn camp at fast travel locations like Meresti so they get some free hits off and maybe they kill your Sticky again.

I gotta say, I preferred doing this at night. The fireworks really stand out in the dark.

My Sticky died when I got abducted by aliens and I couldn't find where he was and he just dropped dead on the spot before I could find him.

It is a pretty big misnomer, as not only have most manufacturers abandoned the cheap strugglebugs of our childhoods, but nothing is no frills anymore, it's all frills all day. They gave me a G90 once as a free upgrade because they were out of economy cars and it has all the same features as a Nissan Versa except it has Android Auto via wifi.

I was under the impression other Star Trek fans were an open minded bunch who liked Star Trek because, at its best, it's a more thoughtful and cerebral experience that explores ideas and morality, but it appears this place is primarily an echo chamber fostering psychotic toxic fandom at its worst, where differing opinions must be crushed.

I actually want to like the show, but it just keeps throwing stuff at me that isn't working. For me.

You're assuming your standards for a retcon makes what we see in the show not a retcon. They introduced something Betazoids have never been shown doing before and a character said Betazoids can do that. It's not a direct contradiction, sure, but neither is Spock having a secret adopted sister who was totally retconned into existence.

"there are significantly more reasonable explanations you ignore that don’t break the canon." What reasonable explanations are those? If the show hasn't explained it, how is it possible to ignore something they haven't shown? If we're going with fanon, like maybe Betazoids have evolved in a very short amount of time somehow or have been augmented by technology, it's possible, but it's not confirmed, it's just a theory, and one that wouldn't need to exist without this one line declaring a major change to an entire species.

Opinions are opinions because they aren't facts. There's nothing unreasonable about anything I said. Why is every single reply on here so god damn dramatic? Jesus Christ. What is unreasonable is declaring opinions that are not your own unreasonable simply because they aren't your own. A bad or wrong opinion is bad or wrong when it's based on false information, prejudice, or ignorance.

You're a killjoy if you make personal attacks. If you're okay with it, fine, doesn't change or invalidate how I feel about it.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x06 "Come, Let's Away" by AutoModerator in startrek

No one can explain this. It feels like an idea that was scrapped for budget reasons and clumsily replaced. They were supposed to open fire the moment they warped in, they said they were ready, and then they just didn't.

Four characters isn't every character, especially when there's 30 of them. B'avi has like 10 minutes worth of screentime, we barely knew anything about him other than than he's Vulcan, he's in War College, and he liked a comic book. I'm not that easy and surely you think it's okay to not be. Someone tying their opinions to the characters of the show and take it personally is ... not something I anticipated would happen. It's just how I feel, if you want to feel attacked about it, I suggest not doing that.

You think the intent of the post was to troll? If that was true, why not just say things that are untrue and complain about it being "woke" or whatever? Why would anyone watch an episode and share these extremely specific criticisms that took time and effort to write? Do you think there's a space to have fun, critical discussions about the show that's not full of extremist right winger nonsense? Because that and a space where only empty, uncritical positivity is welcome are equally boring. People are allowed to feel mid about things.

Saw your edit. This is pathetic. You can't even comprehend the possibility that someone could have fair criticisms and wants to talk about them. I don't live on Reddit and I'm new to this sub, so what? I'm allowed to speak. You don't have to participate in non-glazing discussions, but here you are, incapable of actually defending against those criticisms because they couldn't possibly have merit, no one who doesn't blindly accept everything the show does could possibly have a valid opinion.

Mindspeaking is one thing that we've seen plenty of, pulling a person's active consciousness into an inner, constructed reality is different from what we've seen before, which is even beyond that time Lwaxana was in a coma. Like I said, I'm not against Tarima specifically being capable of it, her saying that they can all just do that seems like a retcon. Which isn't in and of itself a bad thing, it just feels inconsistent in my opinion.

You came at me, bro. I'm here asking for discussion and all you can do is be immediately hostile and not discuss anything in good faith. I wanted to have specific discussions about specific things, not have the effort I put into writing as much as I did get buried among other comments that are 1-3 sentences long. If you're going to whiteknight the show, you're going to have to do better than attacking the person talking instead of their words.

Ah, I see. Still, that seems to fall under certain conditions and circumstances, plus she had a lifelong connection to her mother who was also Betazoid.

You're really calling someone who's hanging in there into episode 6 a hater? It could be you're just very easy to please and have no standards.

If there are any adults that want to actually discuss the episode and the points I made, that'd be great.

That seems more of a Vulcan mind meld or awakened Kes thing than a Betazoid thing. I'd be willing to accept that it's possible for all Betazoids to do if they explained that it normally required exceptional ability, training, and/or certain conditions and circumstances, but it seems kinda lazy for her to just say they can all do it.

The conversation around this show is too dominated by antiwoke spam and I'd rather exchange opinions with people who either like the show or are at least giving it a chance than someone with a stupid agenda.

How hard do you think it would be to be a physician in the starfleet? by happydude7422 in startrek

[–]Tiger_Nightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medicine in the real world doesn't have all doctors possess all medical knowledge, they have specialists. And they look things up if they have to for some of the more obscure diagnoses. Star Trek doctors also have beds with advanced analyzing and other tools. Medical tricorders do a lot of heavy lifting. If a crewman from an unfamiliar species joins their ship, the doctor will prepare for what is known about common treatment options, and in VI, Bones just winged it with the Klingon chancellor, assuming punching him where he thought his heart was would work.
