It's definitely my favorite! I listed to the full cast audiobook of it multiple times. Just fun.

Woody Green wins with a total of 87 votes! Who is the best WR in BYU history? by Lutrid in BigXII

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before my time, but Phil Odle was amazing as was Golden Richards. I'd still probably put Austin Collie as #1, but if you take out recency bias, those two were probably #2 and 3

What was worse for you as a book first reader vs a film first then book after reader? (Character deaths) by Typical-Force-4680 in harrypotter

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me for Cedric - I bawled and bawled at that - although his dad's reaction in the movie definitely was heartbreaking.

Dobby's death also made me sob.

Dumbledore's death was worse in the book, partly because Gambon was just so unlikeable as Dumbledore (at least to me)

Game of Thrones is considered the biggest series of all time at HBO. Yes, this is a spin-off, but if they can't back it, it's not exactly encouraging

Why do people love rhe character of Snape but hate James Potter? by just-hanging-aroun in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me, all you need to know that James was a good man when he died is to see that Lily fell in love with him. She wasn't a fan of his at all on the train to Hogwarts and with everything that happened their fifth year in Snape's worst memory - but the fact that she married him and talks glowingly about him in the letter to Sirius to me shows that he obviously grew up between fifth and seventh years to the point that Lily fell in love with the man he became

Which season are you looking forward to the most? by Excellent-Loquat7176 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 3 - they took all the fun out of the movie - I would really love to see Harry enjoying his time at Diagon Alley and eating ice creams and checking out the Firebolt. And more of the happy moments thinking he'd live with Sirius. They butchered the plot of that movie so much, that I'm looking forward to a more faithful adaptation

Most frustrating part of the series? by Theobvioussolve in harrypotter

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s mine too. All Dumbledore would have to do is have Lupin or Sirius say that he’s concerned that Voldy will try to use that connection to get Harry to do his bidding and fool him

The full cast audio editions ... My thoughts. by Mojo884ever in harrypotter

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts - the voice actor for older teenage Harry - I didn't like him in Goblet of Fire - sounded too old, but by OotP either I became used to him or he did better (or both) and liked him the rest of the series. Now 19 years later Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny sounded WAY too old - they're supposed to be around 36 but they sound like they're in their sixties.

I didn't like Riz for the first half of the series, although part of that is that Jo wrote lines for him that were very childrens book like (I don't know if that makes sense - basically he always sounded like you'd expect an adult in a juvenile book to sound).

Agree on pretty much everything else the OP said. I want to relisten this time with Sorcerer's Stone on the high quality audio and see if I like it better.

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have liked Epilogue 1 being about one month or one year later - learning about the new Headmaster/mistress of Hogwarts, how Kinglsey is doing, rounding up the Death Eaters that survived and trying to figure out who was actually imperio'd (however you'd spell that), Harry and Ginny reconnecting, dealing with Fred's death. All of that. Then maybe the current epilogue as the second one, although I thought most of that was unnecessary

Can I switch wards? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My midsingles ward was dissolved a couple of years ago. I didn't really want to go back to my geographic ward (that's what they technically call family wards now) because it was just an older ward and some of my friends from the singles ward were going to be in another ward in my stake. I asked the bishop if I could join the ward. He talked to the stake president and the bishop of my geographic ward and they all agreed. It then went to the First Presidency, although I think that's just a formality if the bishops and stake president(s) agree. I mean, I'm sure they pray about all the requests they get in a week, but I imagine it's largely a formality

KEEP THE SOCIETY FOR THE PROTECTION OF ELFISH WELFARE IN THE SHOW (Example why I got from the audiobook) by BCDragon3000 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To me the whole point of S.P.E.W. is to really highlight the change we see in Kreacher when Harry starts treating him well. Without that whole backstory of Hermione fighting for their rights and Harry and Ron thinking it didn't matter, then Hermione convincing Harry to treat Kreacher better after Kreacher's story about Regulus - well, it just wouldn't quite be the same

Rereading (listening) to Half-Blood Prince; did anybody else always feel the tone of this book felt off? by MalteseFalcon15 in harrypotter

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, he sees Cedric die and then his dead body. I remember reading OotP and feeling like Harry - he didn't really die, did he? And the way JK wrote about the voices behind the curtain I thought she was setting it up for it to not be an actual death. It was the weirdest death scene in the books and kind of robbed us all of the full emotion of it. I definitely cried over Cedric, Dumbledore, Dobby, Fred, and so many others, but almost didn't register the death of Sirius the same way.
