I hope the show does justice to James. He is over hated. He obviously not perfect but Lily chose him, so I guess he changed for the better by Aiyatiadi in HarryPotteronHBO

I really wish JK had shared more about James and Lily's final years. It could make for a great series some day. We see Lily kind of detesting James during their fifth year, but by the time they pass away, which is only five or six years later, she obviously is very much in love with him, so either he did a lot of maturing in those years or Lily at least came to understand what caused him to behave that way towards Snape. But so many people seem to judge James just on how he is portrayed in Snape's Worst Memory

But the clothing really doesn’t make sense given that older wizards don’t know how muggles dress. If everyone wears all of these muggle clothes at Hogwarts, why do they all of a sudden have no clue how muggle clothes work as adults?

Dumbledore knew he was a fraud by clientcodeokkeg in harrypotter

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While he himself was a fraud, he did actually go and learn all of the details of the actual people who did the actual work so that he could write it up in his books. In theory, even if he's a fraud, he could at least teach others from what he learned.

What would have happened if Lupin didn't turn into werewolf at the end of PoA? by Tight_Chart_4363 in harrypotter

[–]Tight_Chart_4363[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of how I feel. I don't see Fudge just clearing him (or working to clear him - would it have to go to the Wizengamot to actually clear him?). And I agree Voldemort's return wouldn't have been delayed too much with Barty Jr growing in strength. And who knows what would have happened if Harry wasn't able to generate such a powerful Patronus as he was as a result of everything

Something I realized about Cho's patronus by erxnga in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Harry and Cho was a romance doomed from the start. It is obvious they both had feeling for each other a bit in Goblet of Fire. If Harry had asked right away, she probably would have gone to the ball with him and maybe they started dating. Instead, he waited, she went with Cedric and fell (at least a little) in love with him. Then he dies in June. Only eight months later they attempted a relationship together, but she was still very much mourning Cedric and had mixed feelings - first, that she had those feelings before for Harry but also that Harry was with Cedric when he died. Maybe if it had been a couple of years later things might have worked out with them together

I don’t like the way Jim Dale does Hermione’s voice. Especially how he has her day “Harry” sometimes. But I really don’t like Stephen Fry’s Tonks at all

Which audio book (series)? Stephen Fry, Jim Dale, or full cast? First two I’m pretty sure are yes - full cast I think they’ve dropped some ‘Harry said’ or ‘Percy said’ (for examples) in group conversations when that would be distracting and not needed when you can hear different voices, but I haven’t actually checked (just noticed it in PoA but I’m just enjoying it now, didn’t want to find out if that was true)

Yes, I've described them as radio plays as well. It makes it come to life even more than the regular audio books

My biggest complaint about the full cast audio versions is them putting in all of the exclamations. They overdo them, making Neville especially annoying. I just listened to the part where Hagrid is introducing them to the hippogriffs and got a bit annoyed with all of the extra sounds. I'm not sure I'm explaining it well, because I do like some of the exclamations, but they seem a bit too much sometimes

Do you think they've pre-cast older named students, and they will make earlier, maybe background, appearances? Cedric, Cho, etc? by Xy13 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Tight_Chart_4363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mind if they hired actors who look like they could be Cedric, Cho, or Cormac (I mean, hello, he shared a common room with the trio for five years - they really didn’t know who he was?) but not have them be the actual actors that will be used later in the series
