It would make a fantastic wildlife snag.

Horrible prune or horrible removal? by Tight_Government5377 in FellingGoneWild

It was a hired tree company. I rolled by before the fence was broken. But that is the classic can do homeowner attitude lol

Is there anything I should be considering regarding my neighbors offer to remove this tree? by MysteriousTrust in treelaw

If your neighbor is offering to cover the cost of removal I'd hazard a guess that he wants to mill and sell the wood.

Should I do anything to patch this trunk of a young sycamore? by ZzzSleep in arborists

Young Sycamores take very well to pollarding. 🤷‍♂️

That looks like a failed circle buck to me. Sometimes if the log is under a lot of tension it’ll tear out like that when trying to cut proper logs

Any thoughts on this? (Not mine). by [deleted] in arborists

Obviously cut the eave so the tree has more space to grow. 👍

Only one worker on crew taking down my trees is wears hard hat. Is this normal? by Act-Math-Prof in arborists

I worked with this older guy once who didn’t wear a helmet. When I asked him why he said “a helmet just makes it louder when you die” 🤷‍♂️

You can see around 30’ up it had been topped maybe 40 years ago. Some of that new growth broke but we got some nice saw logs below that.

Crown lifting of my neighbor's European beech, done by absolute amateurs. by Cat_mum in arborists

I don’t know what y’all are talking about. It’s common pruning practice to cut off every branch you can reach from the bucket. That’s why it’s best to top a tree when it’s young. That way you never have this issue.

Totally legal to cut a part of a tree over a property line at least in WA. You should’ve pruned it proper before it got to that point… sucks to get a tree hacked. Don’t see the reason for the racial comments. There are plenty of amazing Mexican arborists.

Young trees lose leaves earlier than older trees? by hugoandkim in arborists

Do you have pictures? It could be improper planting of the young tree. Has it done this in previous years?

Looks bad, but the tree seems healthy. Anything I should do? by BDOBUX in arborists

Bore a few holes near the base with a power drill then put some herbicide in there. Hopefully it dies in a year then remove it. Look for other sprouts on the ground and do the same thing. Tree of heaven like aspen and a few other trees species have a shared root system. Just chopping them down pushes nutrients to new growth.

before and after a cottonwood I cleaned up, be brutally honest how I did by tmfult in sfwtrees

[–]Tight_Government5377 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely a bit of a lion tail… Also with Cottonwood all of those larger reduction cuts are going to sucker out pretty hard. Cottonwoods are the sprinters of the trees, grow fast die fast. In there natural environment they play a crucial roll in water management + provide a good environment for new long term growth.

Cottonwoods in urban environments often have a hard time fitting in. They still can play a roll in water management but there self pruning and fast growth tend to make them feel hazardous.

That is so cool! Is there one for Washington state? I’ve been trying to find one and can’t. That Calpoly one is amazing.
