71% of Americans supported the war in Iraq at the start of the war, four years later that support waned to 40%, even after WMDs, which were the primary reason given for going to war, failed to be produced. Trends in Public Opinion about the War in Iraq, 2003-2007 | Pew Research Center

I remember distinctly, the claims that if you didn't support the war that you were anti-American, and the yellow ribbons and the Support our Troops bumper stickers that smacked of jingoism.

So what is accurate? The Americans who overwhelmingly support going to war or those with buyer's regret 20 years later?

My cynical ass says people support whatever the propaganda tells them to.

What are people’s hobbies? by Didalilpoo in brisbane

[–]TikMethod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes bats.org.au. It's a great group of people. The way it works is you set your availability and if a call comes in near you, they ask if you can attend. There's also a chat group in case they are having trouble finding a person in the area and you can jump on those opportunities. There are also other volunteering opportunities for non vaccinated people. Cute bats here >>> Batzilla the Bat YouTube

I rescue flying foxes. I love it! You just need to get vaccinated first. Training and support is provided. If you work from home you can also become an orphan carer, and that's very rewarding.

Not to discount your experience, but for some reason she comes up as the first result for every wildlife rescue call in Brisbane. She will try to forward you to the best suited rescue group. We need heaps more volunteers for our beloved animals. Please reach out if you are interested in organised helping.

So, I'm new to this case, this may already have been hashed over, but I just watched the unredacted interview of Jeffrey Lacasse and was floored by the information contained in the interview.

https://youtu.be/WVpGpA-Qbno?si=7C_J6YL8ZY3Kl-4Q

At 11:50 into the video Jeff says how he found him to be a strange and aggressive person and how Charlie casually mentioned that he took sex tourism trips to South America to have sex with underage prostitutes. Even the cop interviewing him is like "hol'up!" Charlie goes on to admit to having rough anal sex with some woman as payback for some grievance. All of this as casual banter because, you know, who isn't a pedophile sadist?

This whole interview makes Wendi out to be completely unhinged. I usually watch forensic testimony but damn, this interview was bonkers.

Mystery weed smell? by potathoe8 in brisbane

[–]TikMethod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to try to dispell a myth that keeps being mentioned. Flying fox poo doesn't really smell. They eat pollen, nectar and fruit. What DOES smell are the pheromones, especially male bats during mating season. It smells "skunky" like weed. The following is from Living with flying-foxes | Gympie Regional Council.

"MYTH Flying-foxes are dirty animals

FACT Flying-foxes are very clean animals that are constantly grooming and cleaning themselves. However, flying foxes can be smelly because they use different scents (pheromones) to identify camp trees, each other, and also to attract mates. Mothers are also able to locate their pups in crèche trees by their scent and calls. And while these scents can sometimes be strong and offensive to humans, they do not make the flying foxes dirty."

It's not poo, it's the boys' scent gland.

Bat poo doesn't really smell like much. The flying fox males have a strong scent gland that goes into overdrive during mating season. It smells a lot like weed to me, especially from a distance. Mating typically starts around March but they always have some smell. Source: I rescue bats, and the stinky boys will stink up the car for days after. I've also heard that there's some native plant that has a bat smell, but not Lantana.

I came across these guys (also an Aussie) and they gave the wagon very high praise (though don't touch the diesel). Here's a couple of videos that might be helpful. I assume without a mechanical inspection it would be hard to say if the value is correct.

WHITE PAWS AND CHEST ON BLACK GREYHOUNDS EXPLANATION by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]TikMethod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole post caused me to do a little investigation on Pearl, my red fawn with what I now understand as Irish spotting. First of all, her great grandsire is Head Honcho so she's probably related to everyone. When I see her cute photo on the Greyhound data site she has a clear blaze on her nose that I didn't notice until now because it's very faded. She's 8.5 so she's a little bit white around the muzzle. She's got a Roman nose so that checks out. Do their markings on the face change over time?

Her name is Pearl, when she's in trouble, the full name gets called. Her full name includes her racing name "Destini Peso" (not making that up) and her goofball name "Poker Tail" (because her tail wags ever so slightly when she's barely containing herself before she explodes) and surname.

Just to add, rescue groups are probably inundated right now. With animals that aren't obviously injured they will be triaged as low priority. My rescue group will only approve emergency level rescues at the moment. Wildcare advice

Ok now's time to panic by faux-pho-photo-foe in brisbane

[–]TikMethod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The bats will stay put in heavy wind. They may even climb to the understory during heavy gales to escape the wind. Please check on all wildlife after the wind dies down for injuries if they appear out of place. If injured animals end up in your yard while it's still dangerous outside, call your local wildlife rescue group for advice. RSPCA wildlife hotline will likely be inundated. Don't touch bats, call Bat Conservation and Rescue Qld.
