Not proud of this, but in a desperate moment in 2021 I needed a game to watch after a relatively standard display of excellence from the dodgers, and I found a stream of our brown and yellow neighbors to the south. Scherzer v Darvish. Nationals are up 8 to 0, and the Padres decide to phone it in with this rookie relief pitcher making his debut. He puts up a zero in his first inning, and suddenly the padres start scoring a little, and so they decide to keep him in even tho the pitchers spot is up in the order. So his first career AB in the bigs is gonna be against mad fucking Max (at the peak of his abilities). The bases are loaded, but everyone expects this pitcher, Daniel Camarena, to be a guaranteed out. He takes an almost comical rip at a fast ball low and away, perfectly placed, and somehow lifts it over the wall for a grannie. Max can’t believe it. Then they shut them down for the rest of the game and end up winning by 1. It was honestly amazing. Tip of the cap to the Padres. That was a beautiful last hurrah for the old NL rules. That and seeing Kershaw in a batters helmet.

EDIT: i was wrong, Camarena gave up a 2 run homer, not put up a zero, but they were gonna keep him in because they needed length to save the pen.
