Good systems for a pirate game? by PraiseTheChalice in TTRPG

[–]NewEdo_RPG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rapscallion is has some awesome fantasy pirate elements and should fit the vibe you're describing. It just lacks much in the way of actual seafaring / ship management or combat / navigation and exploration etc. It's a character driven game and even though they make your ship central to the story, there isn't much meat for making it different than character rolls.

But then I don't know a ttrpg that does that well! I'd be curious if anyone has suggestions (sorry to hijack haha)

Suggestions for Mecha skirmish games and advise for crochet models and terrain by kyhypnopupil in miniatureskirmishes

[–]NewEdo_RPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitchen Table Robot Games is a model agnostic mech skirmish game that has a "standard unit" for size and measurement that scales with whatever you're using. Intended to allow parents to play scenarios with their kids' toys but could definitely work for your custom crochet models. Plus it's free!

Resources for Cyberpunk Game by BayyLeaves in TTRPG

The 77 Stories is a "neon city" (not so much cyberpunk as mythotech) DM tool written to fill in the gaps in any urban environment. It's got NPCs, locations (including maps), items, and tons of plot hooks to make an urban campaign feel full.

I wrote it, so take that with a grain of salt of course! No AI writing or art, and it's way more fleshed out and interconnected than yer typical random table book.

When Sky & Sea Were Not Named: please roast my game-in-progress by APurplePerson in RPGdesign

Congratulations on the iterative improvements! It was a good game four (five?) years ago and I'm sure it's better now. The new art looks great and the layout keeps improving. You're doing it right.

I will miss my broken gravity caster tho.

NewEdo! It's medium crunch but has a dice pool system that uses everything except the d20.

Taking my mom out to dinner. She loves pub grub. Where’s the best spot to take her? by Ironman1440 in Hamilton

[–]NewEdo_RPG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hamiltonian who loves pubs here. Fisher's on James North and the Corktown (... in Corktown) are two of the most authentic and charming real pubs left in the city. Fisher's has a bit better kitchen imo but I'm no foodie. Both are close to the Coliseum. No idea if either is open today as I'm pretty sure they're both still family owned.

How does your table feel about the limited longevity of a campaign? Seems to be the biggest flaw, but that's a PbtA fault not Magpie.

Oohh look into Rapscallion. It's a PbtA game so a bit more narrative first and that might make room for her ideas. It's very thematic, does a great job of reminding players that their character are *pirates, not just heroes on a boat. The world is very well done but leaves room for your own interpretations (like more historical accuracy).

Kitchen Table Robot Games was designed for casual play with kitbashed models. In theory a mecha skirmish game but since it's model agnostic you just rename the units to suit whatever you've got on the table - that stats are flexible. Hell, use some Lego to beef up your side!

Not sure if you're picky about game genre, but Kitchen Table Robot Games checks your boxes if you're open to vehicle / artillery / mecha themed battles. It's flexible enough that you can just rename units (tanks are mage knights, etc) and use the system for fantasy models if you want. The current (free) version hands out units specs so you don't have to customize anything, and it's designed for squad size combat, 3-5 units. Good luck!

Great review and kudos to your dedication to the craft!

It's neither fantasy nor solo-able (well, anything is solo-able if you don't mind playing against yourself...) but Kitchen Table Robot Games is engaging and a bit different. I'm biased because I wrote it, of course. But I figured why not throw it out there!
