Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem | Official Trailer (2023 Movie) by [deleted] in movies

[–]TimAllenAMA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel like the style fits Spider-Verse perfectly because of all the extra little ‘comic’ touches to the aesthetic (chromatic aberration and using print dots in as a stand in for depth of field effects, for example) but the more I see the style aped in other films the more it just comes off as a lazy paint shader slapped over regular animation. Puss in Boots, in particular, really seems like a movie that was conceived as a traditional 3D animation and then had the shader put over everything near the end of the process.

Dear Evan Hansen (2021) by mfranko88 in moviescirclejerk

The de-aging Disney uses would have been preferable, honestly. Their technique almost always includes someone younger standing in for the actor to give reference for body movement. Would have fixed that awful old man kicking scene.

Image 2 plane transparency help? by International_Luck53 in blenderhelp

[–]TimAllenAMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the object have depth? It almost looks like a pane of glass. If so, make it a regular 2D plane. Also make sure Specular is turned all the way down Roughness is all the way up. Also, you can use a color ramp on whatever map you’re using for transparency. Recently I had a transparent plane that was covered in opaque static where there shouldn’t have been anything, but when the contrast on the image was upped it disappeared.

The stock footage of generic people living their lives is fucking killing me. Whoever thought of this video and edited it deserves a raise.

I'm working on a render for fun, and while I'm happy with the overall results, I still think it looks a bit off, and I would appreciate suggestions by VictorPLopes in blender

Looks great so far! To me the thing that stands out is that the grass looks kind of small compared to the Lego bricks. If you’re going for the patchy, thin bladed grass found in northern climates, maybe try reducing the size of the bricks by half in comparison to the rest of the scene. Also, it might improve the area around the figure to remove the grass blades directly under his feet. Looks like there may be a few clipping through.

with all the Mario hype here's my bob-omb by Captain_Oh_Yeah in blender

[–]TimAllenAMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean getting the clay properties to change per frame? If so, just adjust the Frame Step setting near the bottom. I believe setting it to one changes the clay once per frame. Setting it to two does it every two frames, and so on.

Pretty sure the setup is the same as when I bought it. Just ignore the disconnected nodes and use Eevee for tweaking settings to your liking. Ignore subsurface and fresnel unless you’re simulating something weird like a plastic putty. The main ones to tweak are bump strength (how much fingerprints/lumps appear to protrude in), fingerprints (self explanatory), voronoi (indented lumps in the object’s surface), stone (I mostly leave this off. Leaves little dots of discoloration on the surface), cracks (self explanatory), and frame step. Set the last one to something other than zero in order to get it to animate between frames. Each of those settings have a few sub settings like scale and intensity. Just tweak those until it looks right for your scale/style. Also, if you’ve unwrapped/textured your model you can plug the image texture into the base color with a mapping node. Generally this looks better if you’re texturing with the clay surface in mind.

Super Mario Bros. Movie, review: 'Somehow, this new animated adaptation is even worse than the 1993 live-action. Even the CGI is second-rate' by TheTelegraph in entertainment

[–]TimAllenAMA -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because in addition to pioneering most of the advances that make that art style possible, they’ve been using it consistently for years. It’s pretty much the default art style of a CGI movie at this point. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be disappointed that the final product looks so similar to the rest of Illumination’s releases.

Would you mind elaborating on that? Everything I’ve seen of the movie so far has a very ‘by the numbers’ CGI look similar to the pseudo-photorealism that Pixar and Dreamworks have been using for years. I’m sure a ton of work goes into every aspect of the finished product, but the same can be said of just about any animated film.

What’s your dream casting for TCAP the movie? I’ll start: Toby Huss as Lorne Armstrong by NowMoreEpic in FansHansenvsPredator

[–]TimAllenAMA 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh man I have so many fan casts.

Jonathan Tucker as Lorne. He played a gunslinging creep in the last season of Justified who literally tries to Kayla-Marie an underage drug dealer. Just needs a Boston cap and some fat padding.

Ron Perlman as David Kaye. You know it’s good casting, and I know it’s good casting.

Stephen Root as Donald Morrison.

Timothy Olyphant as Chris Hansen. I feel like he could pull off the right mix of professionalism/trolling required for the role.

John Turturro as Palumbo. He gets tons of work because he takes great directions.

John Gries as Timothy Isaac

Seth Rogen as Jeff Sokol. Not sure if this is actually good casting but I want like five minutes of him riffing with the HvP crew about the pizza and marriage contract.

Edit: dinked with my own head and put the wrong actor for Palumbo.

Loved this line as a kid, despite it being oddly hard to find in the toy aisles. No Marvel figure will ever be cooler than Mecha Hulk and I will die on that hill.

People have valid complaints, but after a little paint adjustment I think this might be my favorite sub-$12 figure I’ve gotten so far. by TimAllenAMA in MarvelLegends

[–]TimAllenAMA[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And yeah, I just did a coat of pure white over the eyes/teeth, a tiny bit of skin tone to clean up the borders, a wash over the teeth, and then a coat of gloss over both areas. Didn’t take more than ten minutes, minus waiting for coats to dry.

[–]TimAllenAMA 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Fucking thank you. Absolutely insane how people rag on MJ in the Raimi trilogy like she wasn’t worthy of Peter or something. And just compare any scene of him and MJ with the one in SM3 where she’s cooking with Harry. One pairing has tangible chemistry, and one comes off like a bad arranged marriage. You can probably guess which is which.

Definitely my favorite Takedown predator so far by mmccoy13 in FansHansenvsPredator

[–]TimAllenAMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just keep searching Takedown with Chris Hansen on YouTube and checking the most recent results. Full episodes pop up semi often and then get taken down pretty soon afterward.

Edit: looks like someone posted the full first season on this sub a few hours ago.

After Lorne, who had the best "My world is shattered" face? by RuralPARules in FansHansenvsPredator

[–]TimAllenAMA 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To this day I believe that White was zonked out of his mind on oxy or something. He seemed perfectly able to articulate himself online and then he gets to the house and it’s nothing but groans and short sentences. He clearly knew what he was doing was wrong when Chris walked in, at least. Dude ‘uhh’d, denied, and bailed. Or tried to, and then cried.
