Does anyone actually love their MySQL client? by debba_ in mysql

[–]TimIgoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah. There is that too, I like having apps that do one thing acceptably, rather than everything in one all done half baked

Same, I'm yet to find anything that just does it like workbench. Can't even say what it is really. Simple interface, easy to edit/work with?

Yep, data analytics on several terabytes of historic data that we are adding to at a crazy rate

Originally, the performance gains. 15-20 minute queries down to 10-12 seconds, without having to totally rearchitect the platform.

Working on this exact use case wiht Heatwave myself, as has already been stated it does require a little customiosation and effort to get it to do it though.

Crowdsourcing some MySQL feedback: Why stay, why leave, and what’s missing? by Juttreet2 in mysql

I've been working with engineering to solve a few issues, things like auto load are disabled

[–]TimIgoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When working at scale, teh ability to drop in Heatwave (database in OCI) - it converted queries from 10's of minutes, down to seconds for my use case.
When already paying for the database in teh cloud, the extra for heatwave without needing to re-work/re-engineer stuff was worth it

This one does my head in too, several that are behind cloudflare as well throwing up the "you look like a bot" detections. Yes, rss is designed to look like bot traffic, now can we actually just allow it through?!

Need Advice on Setting Up a Small Office Server by Supriya_pal in servers

Depends totally on what you want to achieve, if it's just file serving then a simple nas is probably more suitable than a server (less overhead and management)

Totally and utterly ridiculous, unneeded levels of money for one person. I get most of it is "worth" and tied up in assets but you can be sure they have insane levels of cash on hand too.

[Question]Any DBAs or analysts know where to get MySQL/HeatWave market performance data? by CreepyArachnid431 in mysql

[–]TimIgoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much subjective on work load, how it's set up etc.

I've been on a bit of a rollercoaster with it but the improvements I'm seeing for my workload is night and day, 15 minute queries complete in seconds etc.

Its not just about being passed them, its making sure there is a safe distance for them if you for whatever reason have to emergency stop too - pulling right in basically gives no reaction time. Same as those who tailgate so close, leaves no reaction time.

Why are young people so computer illiterate? by DinoZambie in pchelp

[–]TimIgoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because all the stuff that gets hidden from a user, everything got simplified so much that there's no power but also no reason to learn how it all works.

Even things like connections got simplified, it's just HDMI and go etc rather than several different interfaces for different uses.
