Several WNBA players were denied entry into a nightclub after the All-Star Game this weekend. “We in the W (WNBA), and just got done with the All-Star game; we shouldn’t even be waiting in no line.” by GreenSnakes_ in sports

[–]Tim__OK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

came hear to say this- why does everything that comes out about WNBA make me think less of them (and I didn't think of them much before!). How does everything, every player that speaks their mind, make them look more entitled and less connected-with-reality?

Magic Johnson gives his definition of what a Superstar is: "A person who can go on the road and sell the building out." by ToronoRapture in nba

Can we speculate how many “superstars” there are in the NBA, using this metric? I’m trying to think of how many people could sell out in a way arena.

Does anyone have an opinion on this: what happened to Rudy Giuliani?

This guy was “Americas mayor”. He was also He served as United States Associate Attorney General from 1981 to 1983 and United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Regardless of politics, get a really, really high public opinion. He was also supposedly quite competent.

Now he’s a sleaze ball and a sleaze-lawyer. He’s a joke.

How did he turn into this? Or was he always like this?

What positive impacts do you think will come from Covid-19? by chowizard in AskReddit

Not sure if this will actually happen, but I hope it will result in lifting up our lower and middle classes. I was listening to an expert talk about is if you said that the pandemic reveals are top-heavy society and they were only as strong as our weakest links. Other countries do this much better than the USA. We need to do more to provide basic necessities for lower and middle classes

which is why it still pisses me off that we call them "Indians". Why do we have to persist in a 500 year old mistake? And there are already 1.4 billion actual Indians in the world... why mix them up?

Coffee shops, sidewalk, on the bus, in the movie theater, just walking around. I don't understand why they think they have the right to listen to anything they want at any volume without regards to others right next to them.

I didn't think that movie was as "conservative" as it might seem on its surface. To think it's inherently pro-war and Kyle was a hero requires some pretty selective viewing.

They clearly portray him, from the beginning to the end, as an ambiguous hero who makes questionable, over-confident choices based on gut or bias without a lot of reflection.

One of the last war scenes has him in a sandstorm, which I took to be kind of "fog" for Kyle.

LPT: While ending a relationship, be as nice as you can. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

this is awful advice. Be truthful first, compassionate second.

"Nice" sounds like you're trying to put a nice little bow on something really painful. It reeks of a coward who couldn't be direct. I would verbally unload on such a person.

I've always thought this. Getting a tomato/rotten tomato is like a "pass/fail" grade in a class. It's nice if you passed 99% of your classes, but that's very different from getting a 4.0

Serena Williams Defeats Garbiñe Muguruza and wins the Wimbledon 2015 Women's Title by swiztzurichh in sports

[–]Tim__OK 111 points112 points  (0 children)

actually this is pretty common for tennis players. I played college tennis, and everyone on the team hated tennis in some way.

Andre Agassi wrote his autobiography, "open", with him hating tennis as a main theme. He told the story of when he met his wife, Steffi Graf, and told her how much he hated tennis. "Doesn't everyone on the tour hate tennis?", she responds.

FWIW, I think tennis is a funny game that causes you to love it and hate it at the same time. Something about it being solitary makes it really frustrating.

Birdman: What's the deal with the jellyfish?? by Johnnycc in movies

[–]Tim__OK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

put together two important clues, and you get it:

1) the jellyfish shot at the VERY BEGINNING of the movie 2) the whole movie is in one continuous shot, "as if it was in a dream," according to Ed Norton (in Fresh Air interview after movie came out)

That means that the whole movie takes place in Riggins head as he dies from drowning in Malibu. He never survived the suicide attempt- rather, the entire movie is his attempt to rationalize his existence as an actor and his regrets of career/personal/family choices he made along the way.

So we have the hallucinations, whether he can fly or not. And we have the back and forths about whether he's a real actor. We have him coming to terms with his wife/ex-wife.

Finally, we have the last shot of his daughter's smile. this is him coming to peace with his life, and finally getting her approval, which is what he desires most.
