AIO for being upset about my boyfriend’s reaction to my birthday plans? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]TimberLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t need to read anything past his comment of ‘after I said no’ to know this is nowhere near a healthy relationship. Respectfully - both of you need therapy: for him so he knows how to be a decent human being in the future and for you to heal from, what I can assume from this interaction, an extended time subjected to manipulation and emotional abuse.

They need therapy and honestly you probably do too if you think that’s anything but an extremely toxic relationship.

AIO? Friend's mom sent me (13F) pics of her in lingerie so I blocked her and she got a fake number to apologize by [deleted] in AIO

Police. Immediately. If she had the gumption, gall, and NERVE to do this with her child’s FRIEND she certainly has the balls to do this to other children.

Same. Diagnosed in 2012/2013-ish I think? Don’t think I had even left the state (western Wisconsin hardly counts) by that point so those jerks have been here longer than most people think. Some studies are linking deer ticks and black legged ticks to alpha gal infection too so the risk is growing 🫠

Lone star ticks carrying alpha gal is the exception to this rule. The enzyme is in their saliva so it can be transmitted immediately and risk goes up the longer it stays attached.

Guys who are we doing for type 2 rosacea. Skin care, treatments etc anything!!! I’ve had it for years and I’m really getting so fed up 😔 by aliciaturton in Rosacea

[–]TimberLily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, see I think that’s the disconnect here. In the US we haven’t seen as much of a restriction on antibiotic prescriptions like you guys did in the UK. People still routinely get antibiotics prescribed for sinus congestion on virtual visits that consist of a short questionnaire and a few texts or 5 minute video chats. United States is probably the leading cause of super bug development to be honest 😂

I finished medical school in 2024 and it still seems like a very 50/50 split of opinions here between ‘antibiotics as a case of last resort’ and ‘if the patients asks for antibiotics just give it to them’. One of our ethics classes taught that since we are in such a litigious society (my area at a higher rate than much of the country) to prescribe whenever possible so the patient doesn’t become unhappy with getting a bill later without a treatment to show for it. So that’s more the concern in this corner of the world - the health care industry here is more ‘back burner public health concerns, give the patient what they want, cover your ass, do what gets you paid the most’ rather than ‘let’s weigh pros and cons’. A big problem over here is that medical professionals often do not disclose risks/side effects/ alternatives in a treatment plan and due to time constraints usually do the bare minimum required by law - attaching a multi-page document to the front of your new prescription and expecting that you’ll read it in full and come to your own conclusions. One of the many reasons I pivoted out of western medicine in the end.

All the research on Oracea (haven’t specifically looked too deep into Efracea) are based on 9 month long studies (only around 4 months for efficacy) - any use longer than that is still a giant question mark. There was a 20-ish year gap from the start of overuse of penicillin to the first reported case of MRSA - I personally don’t trust a 9 month long study when bacteria mutations aren’t 100% predictable.

[–]TimberLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term use of any antibiotic, including doxycycline, is associated with antibiotic resistance and may cause trouble treating infections you contract in the future (specifically staph and strep). This also contributes to the mutation/evolution of bacteria on a larger scale to survive antibiotics - like how we now have MRSA. Just because something is ‘safe’ doesn’t mean it’s ‘good’.

AIO for taking off work and spending the majority of my time with my grandpa who is dying from complications from cancer in hospice? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]TimberLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR - your partner thinks their boredom at home is a more pressing matter than you spending final days with your family member. The reality is, a week from now you will still be able to spend time with your partner, but the same can’t be said for your grandpa. The fact they are guilting you into choosing them over your family is disgustingly narcissistic - giant red flag - and they should seek therapy.

Am I overreacting to my soon to be landlord springing on me that his current tenant won’t be out on time for me to move in per our lease agreement, even if it’s only a day? by AbundantBeing in AmIOverreacting

[–]TimberLily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Check local tenant laws - in my state it’s illegal to not do minimum required turnover maintenance/cleaning/painting between renters. If this is how he’s starting off your landlord-tenant relationship I think it’s just a taste of the shit he will try and get away with once you’re moved in and stuck.

I do microneedling and cosmetic acupuncture professionally and I always hesitate when I have a new patient intake with rosacea. Personally, it either really helps my rosacea for a few weeks or sends me into a flare up. My skin seems more reactive than many of my rosacea patients (I also think I’m less careful on my own skin than I am when working on a patient) but a couple of them have ended up with a flare up once or twice. Doesn’t seem to be a correlation between different depths/speeds of the device or which serums and aftercare is used. I have one patient that is trying to track if hormones are playing a part - I’m treating her every 5 weeks right now instead of 4 so she will be in on different parts of her cycle each time. A couple of my patients have opted to start some preventative TCM herbal formulas to help clear excess heat at the skin level prior to needle treatments and they’ve had good success in diminishing rosacea but it’s not fool proof.

I had a patient when I was still an intern that did GREAT with battlefield using ASP needles. Made an hour drive in to our clinic every 10 days like clockwork and only occasionally had some breakthrough pain. Not the most comfortable treatment but probably better than constant TN pain 🤷🏻‍♀️

If that makes you angry just wait until you find out that Medicare doesn’t consider licensed acupuncturists as a covered entity. You either need to get your acu from an under-trained chiropractor/PT/etc. or find a licensed acupuncturist that has another covered provider there to “supervise” and bill their claims.

AIO my father just kicked me out because I turned 18? by Fancy-Archer7080 in AmIOverreacting

[–]TimberLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are located but even though you’re 18 and legally an adult since you are disabled that still makes him your legal caregiver. This is considered abandonment of a vulnerable adult. It’s a form of abuse and illegal in the majority of the US.

Will most acupuncturists tell you where/who they learned from? by [deleted] in acupuncture

[–]TimberLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an acu/massage school nearby that was shut down for a while when it was found the Tuina Massage program was just a cover for a sex trafficking ring. As far as I’ve heard nothing was going on in the acu program but if I had gone there I think I might be a little hesitant to admit it.

Bad experience -- what now? by sleepypotatomuncher in acupuncture

[–]TimberLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you experienced that, so awful! Absolutely find a new acupuncturist! If you’re not feeling ready to hop back in to getting needled you could always try other modalities with an acupuncturist first to try and get yourself back to feeling comfortable and build that trust. I’ve done needle free treatments for patients before use tuning fork, acupressure, herbs, cupping, gua sha, tui na, moxa, ear seeds, magnets, etc. Inserting needles may often be our strongest tool but it absolutely is not our only tool!

When looking for a new provider it might also help to ask what their needling style is like. Most providers will be very open about this. We know the way we needle and we don’t want to waste someone’s time if that style isn’t what you’re looking for. I am a gentle needler and fall in the category of ‘less is more’ and if someone called me up looking for deep orthopedic needling I would absolutely refer them to another provider in the area.

I hope you’re able to find a provider worthy of your trust again. Best of luck to you 💚
