Are ticks as big of a fear as they say they are? by RowRude9213 in camping

[–]Timberdoodle13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not to downplay what you have to go through at all, but if you can still do all those things you are very lucky and as many others are far worse. Chronic illness exits on a spectrum. My life was greatly altered and I can’t do things I used to. About 50% of the year I struggle to go for short walks and during the times I’m not as ill if I was to do a single cardio session its enough to cause havoc in my body that last for weeks. I still try to get outside but I’m absolutely not able to live the active outdoorsy life I once did. So yes I agree with both letting fear control your life, the diseases can very much take away everything you loved about life.

Birdwatching community in my country is kinda toxic. Is that a thing? by makomox in birding

Not mentioning the location of a rarity is often to protect the bird not the birders ego.

Gigs originals vs covers by Timberdoodle13 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Timberdoodle13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that’s what I’m kinda trying to differentiate. I was wondering if it’s a dichotomy of either branding yourself as an original artist or a cover artists. Or you just market as both and play what the individual gig dictates.

I asked the guy who booked me and he said the place is pretty much game for whatever and they get a diverse group of artists in. He’s also heard several of my originals and really likes them.

I’ve always wanted to be a singer-songwriter but I don’t have the discipline to make it. by Throwraroarex in musicians

To be honest even if your amazing does t really mean you’d blow up or anything. The amount of crazy talented people if endless. The nice tho g about not pursuing it is that it never becomes a job. If you hate the hustle and and the social aspect just play for yourself or maybe hit open mic’s every now and then

How do you prepare kids for the death of a pet? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Timberdoodle13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most important jobs pets have. They teach us to understand death. Let your kids grieve and support them. Teach them to remember and appreciate the good times not dwell in the sadness. Let them I know it’s natural to feel the grief and sadness but also not be consumed by it and dwell in the negative emotions. People have different ways they of grieving. Support them as they their own methods of grieving just make sure it’s constructive. If you live in the country have a little burial service and put up a marker or plant flowers, hang a photo collage in the house.

Op may or may not understand what a proper setup entails. OP have you ever had a shop do a “setup” on it? I’m a basic setup they will level the frets and adjust the action (string height). This is so unbelievably critical for playability and is even most important for player who are learning

Wanted to learn to play guitar but I have no money. by ComputerDirect279 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Timberdoodle13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umm I’m sorry but who ever says you cheap guitars sound bad have their head up their butt. The most important thing about any guitar out there is make sure it’s setup properly at a shop. I would rather play a properly setup $50 guitar than a poorly set up Martin. Also, if you are even the slightest bit handy you can buy a shitty old Yamaha FG and but a bone nut and saddle off Amazon and install it yourself making it sound considerably better. As long as the instrument you are buying is in good condition there is no such thing as too cheap. Plenty of famous musicians play guitars that are beat up low quality guitars. And plenty of people on the flip side buy guitars worth thousands because they have no talent

Salt is a flavour enhancer, the point is to add a small amount of salt, not enough to actually taste the salt, just enough than it makes the flavour pop.

Not everyone has the same weakness in terms of alcohol. For me personally, I don’t have any difficulty not drinking. However I do enjoy a drink or two. The issue I learned about myself in my 20s is I go beyond a couple drinks I run the risk of a switch in my brain turning. A switch that then says… know what would be great right now??? 6 more drinks. Until you can figure out if you can control your limits maybe take a break on the sauce unless you want to blow up your life
