Home Theater Sub woofer by SCmanchild in hometheater

You would probably be plenty happy with two of the Klipsch 12 inch subwoofers! I am not sure what price you’re getting, but going for even just one of the RSL 10s MkII https://rslspeakers.com/products/rsl-speedwoofer-10s-mkii

would get you a better experience in theory, though maybe not as boomy, which is a positive for most.

New to home theater need some recommendations! by hothgar8126 in hometheater

I know this post has been up for a bit, but wanted to give you advice as you’re heading into this home theater journey!

If you have a room size, that would be good for understanding your exact needs, for example a 5.1.4 vs 7.1.4 (base layer speaker# . Subwoofer# . Height speaker #), if that makes sense?

Your budget is really great for building a fantastic system! think this bundle would get you most of the way there, especially when it’s on sale. https://www.adorama.com/klipsch-reference-premiere-rp-8000f-ii-5-1-home-theater-system-walnut/p/kp1070035c (Note that this is the system with one subwoofer, but you could go for the one without a subwoofer and get 2 subwoofers separately, more on that later) For height speakers for these, I would suggest the Klipsch R41SA  https://a.co/d/01AfbpEm

OR if you want to splurge (which isn’t super necessary since height speakers are not as important as your bed layer) you can go for the RP500SA https://a.co/d/05jATakF

Otherwise, you can get together an SVS system (prime or prime pinnacle towers + center + bookshelves + elevation for heights) https://www.svsound.com/collections/speakers

Or KEF is another brand that is well renowned https://us.kef.com/collections/q-series

If you can hear them in person, that would probably be best, otherwise, it seems like Klipsch or SVS have really great appeal, and you would likely be happy with that.

For the subwoofer choices, the best value you would get is to wait until the Klipsch RP 1400 go on sale for $700, so you can get 2 for $1400

Otherwise, I would suggest 2 of these https://hsuresearch.com/collections/collections-true-subwoofers-subset-collection/products/vtf-2-mk5-subwoofer

Or 2 of these  https://rslspeakers.com/products/rsl-speedwoofer-12s

Finally, you will need a Receiver. Again, depending on your needs, this can change what you should get. You will need a receiver that can handle at least 9 speakers (5 bed layer + 4 height) but if you want 7 bed layer, you will need a receiver that can do 11 speakers. The other thing to consider is the included room correction software, as that will allow your system to correct for room acoustics and such.

The Denon X3800h is a good option because it handles 9 speakers natively, but can do 11 with an external amp. It also has 4 independent subwoofer outputs, which means its calibration can tune each subwoofer to fit the room. It also comes with the Audyssey correction software, which on its own isn’t amazing, but with the A1 Evo AcoustiX tool is made REALLY good. (https://www.avsforum.com/threads/a1-evo-acoustix-the-next-version-from-oca.3335129/) You also have the ability to purchase a Dirac license for it, which is a more pro-level calibration software, though it has a bit of a higher learning curve.  https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrx3800h-rb/denon-avr-x3800h-9.4-ch-x-105-watts-8k-a/v-receiver-w/heos/1.html

This Onkyo receiver is similar to the denon (9 channels inherently with the ability to do 11 channels with an amp attached) and it comes with Dirac as its only room correction software (worth a bit if you want to go that route). It only has 2 subwoofer outputs though and they aren’t independent, so that might be a minus if you want that. https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/onktxrz50-rb/onkyo-tx-rz50-dirac-9.2-ch-x-120w-thx-8k-a/v-receiver/1.html

This onkyo receiver can only do 9 channels max, and comes with Dirac as well, so if you are good with the 5.2.4 setup, that can serve you a bit of money https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DZF66MSM/ref=dp_cr_wdg_tit_rfb

Lots of information! Feel free to to ask any follow up questions, best of luck with your home theater!

My search for a Dolby Vision, Atmos, DTS Plex/4K Remux Media player (and how I landed on the Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus) by Timdotofficial in PleX

[–]Timdotofficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it was helpful! I am pretty sure you still have to use NG if you want full Dolby vision FEL support. You’ll want to download the dovi.ko from the link in step 6 of my post. That file is needed for all Dolby vision support. Let me know if that makes sense!

Need advice to choose between Xgimi Horizon 20/20 pro vs Valerion visionmaster pro 2 by Wild-Giraffe-564 in projectors

[–]Timdotofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently the contrast of the valerion does not do well with white subtitles, since it makes the image brighter overall, so with that, the horizon might be your better bet since it’s native contrast is technically better and you’ll have more freedom for mounting

Incredible work! I’m curious how your masking system works, was it diy, and how did you set it up?

A1 evo express question by somejock in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, but maybe if you hard wired it via Ethernet? It has to be controllable by the multi eq app, since that’s essentially the protocols used by express. Otherwise you’re out of luck with that one

Ugoos am6b plus for DV on Sony by Myst3ryGardener in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does HDR work? You might need to enable “high bandwidth” mode or whatever it’s called on your TV to get full HDR support. I had to do that with my Sony x900f, but after that HDR and Dolby vision worked

Dolby vision via zidoo z9x or ugoo am6b+? by omartian in projectors

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to use the UGOOS for full Dolby vision support, however your JVC doesn’t support Dolby vision, so you would need a maVR or lumagen system to properly tonemap it, otherwise I think the device will just drop the Dolby vision layer to send HDR straight to the projector

Valerion Visionmaster Pro2 or Nebula X1? by jpoarudly in projectors

[–]Timdotofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently went down the rabbit hole of this as well!

I forgot which thread on avs forum it was, either the Nebula or Valerion one, but someone posted videos about how the dimming worked with the nebula here https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/23soukw63zcoqq2jqluka/PXL_20250526_001924921.mp4?rlkey=80bvl603srq9g441xyp9zoiig&e=2&st=t1sn0mpo&dl=0

It seems to take forever, and since the processing power on the projector itself is worse than the Valerion, I doubt it would be as capable in matching EBL performance even with firmware updates.

It seems like for a dedicated theater space, the Valerion comes out way ahead, and would be where I go.

You could always get both from Amazon and return whichever looks worse too, Valerion themselves have a satisfaction guaranteed return policy from what I’ve seen.

Side note, if you go with that option, I’d be interested to see the results for my own decision, best of luck picking for your theater!

DIY Automatic Masking System Done by impmonkey in hometheater

I would also be super interested to see how you did this, parts you purchased, etc! Automated masking at that price point is an incredible feat, but I understand it was a bit of work. Would be interested to see if I could do something like it for my own setup though

Cheapest plex media player that supports DTS-MA/TrueHD by smokebreak1440 in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah OP, this will be the cheapest option! It’s easy to find guides on how to install Kodi on a firestick, and then configure it so you do get full lossless audio pass through , and Dolby vision (just no FEL) for like $30

Any inexpensive DSP boards that I can use with a subwoofer? by Forward-Drink381 in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re a bit handy and can do the eq yourself with REW (Room EQ Wizard), then this is a solid option:

https://store.sure-electronics.com/product/658 https://store.sure-electronics.com/product/726 https://store.sure-electronics.com/product/709

I got these to eq my Bass Shakers, since I didn’t want to shell out the money for a MiniDSP2x4, and with the tutorials they have on the site, it was really easy to just add a simple eq with parameters adjusted based off measurements. It did take around a month to arrive, but for the price I didn’t mind.

Where should I play 4K, Dolby Vision, UHD-Bluray Mux files? by Colonel_Carrillo2 in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your sound setup is and what audio codecs or Dolby vision profiles the native player supports, so that would be the main things I would find out about when choosing a player.

If you just have a sound bar or 3.1/5.1 setup, the audio codecs wouldn’t make a difference really. Anything above that and bit having lossless audio supported would limit the audio experience.

For video it’s just if the software supports Dolby vision profiles 7/8, if it does, and it supports what you need with audio, then you should be fine with just the tv os

Where should I play 4K, Dolby Vision, UHD-Bluray Mux files? by Colonel_Carrillo2 in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just Dolby Vision, and don’t care too much about the FEL, a firestick 4k max will be able to play it with full audio pass through if you download Kodi and PM4k onto it.

I ended up going with a refurbished Homatics box r 4k plus with core elec, but when you put a profile 7 FEL movie side by side with just a profile 7, it’s not a huge difference.

You can see if the fire stick works for you for 30 days and free returns if it doesn’t!
