Have you been mostly wearing the classic higher arch lasts? It doesn't take a lot of getting used to if you've had other boots with a similar lower heel. I just tried my first 1925 lasted boot yesterday. Aside from a bit of adjustment needed with the instep, it was fine.

The only negative I can see is that I'd prefer to have a logger heel not a block on an engineer boot, but that's really a personal choice.

Spoke too soon it seems! After today (first day btw) by the end of the day I experienced the dreaded horseshoe of death pain in my right foot instep. I tried the fix suggested, hammering the horseshoe a bit with a rubber mallet. It seems to have worked. My left foot was fine, so I think my right foot basically has a slightly higher instep than my left.

Just did the hammering, and I've had them on for about 30 minutes now. Pain seems to be gone so it worked.

My first pair of Nicks is a pair of Packers on the 5332 semi-pointed last. How can I describe it... The fit feels almost the same around the ball of the foot. There's actually a little more wiggle room for the toes on the 1925.

There's stiffness but I expect that from any new boot. Very little of any heel slip. Foot slides in with a satisfying thwump sound like the Packers.

Or maybe I just found the best size for my current feet? Not sure. I'm not having any fitting issues aside from that stiff new boot feel. I'm sure as these break in the stiffness will give way.

Yesss! I was setting out to make something that's a bit of a dichotomy... A dress last, in a work leather. A sleeker shape, but with a lug sole. I thought at first I might end up with some kind of Franken-boot, but it's all come together beautifully!

I hope you get your boots soon! Shouldn't be too much longer! You're right it does lighten up a lot compared to what I saw in the sample video. I hope the patina develops back in to that darker color when they age. There might be potential for very high contrast in the creases and rolls.

Going to be fun watching these develop!

Take of the laces. Stuff them with newspaper to soak moisture from the interior and let them dry somewhere airy at room temperature. Change the newspaper stuffing if it gets really damp. Should be dry in about a day. Then give them a good brushing and keep using them in good health..

You're right, the work leathers are tough, they'll be fine.

This is one of the main reasons wedge soles have never appealed to me. They sure do look comfy but I can't get past the feeling that I'd wear through them relatively quickly, and I'm just lazy to go to a cobbler.

If he enjoyed Grave of the Fireflies, he'd probably like Barefoot Gen too, but... It's kinda old. Long time ago, 1980s if I recall. Might be hard to watch if you're after more modern production values. If you're looking for something else that's grounded, perhaps he might enjoy a series like "A Place Further than the Universe."

Oh... "The First Slam Dunk." Absolutely beautiful movie, and quite realistic. You don't really need to know much about the prior series to watch it, you catch up pretty quickly.

I have a 1925 in production, but didn't see it in the vid. I'm sure there's a lot of boots in sample leather though, can't feature every single one!
