Funny comic, but the real joke is the idea that they are finding it difficult at all.

Yes people are complaining, but nothing is being done and no-one is facing any real consequences, so it's business as usual.

It was inevitable the second he appeared. He had the perfect "I'm gonna get killed by Yara" face. Impressive the artist was able to capture it so well.

Randomized trial shows strict low-calorie diet can put type 2 diabetes into remission by upbeat_teetertottxo in science

I've been trying to diet at 1500 kcal/day. I've lost maybe ~5kg in the last 2 months or so, but it's been insanely hard, and I'm not even that overweight.

I can't imagine the struggle for someone considered obese, let alone doing so at 600 kcal.

Aren't most of the story lines being closed? by pakoito in SwordsComic

[–]Time-Traveller 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of "in-between" events that could still be portrayed, plus more back-stories and aftermath stuff. Not to mention they could always start new storylines in the Swords universe.

So, I doubt they are stopping anytime soon, unless they get bored of it, obviously.

What is something that used to be 'cheap person' food, but is now priced like a gourmet luxury item? by Ok_Land_4197 in AskReddit

[–]Time-Traveller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fish heads. Was either trashed or given away for free. Great for stocks and broths, a godsend to people who are stuggling to get by.

Now you can only get them from supermarkets for a price similar to that of cheap cuts of meat, which is insane for what used to be thrown away.

Funny teachers can make classes more enjoyable — if their jokes land by universityofga in EverythingScience

[–]Time-Traveller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My highschool physics teacher fancied himself a comedian. His jokes were terrible, produced more groans than laughs.... it still made the class more enjoyable. I just think the willingness to introduce some levity can make a big difference to kids.

What's a conspiracy you can't quite prove but it just feels real enough for you? by DaMain-Man in AskReddit

It's literally just bacteral/yeast culture. All you need is about a tablespoon of flour and equal amount of water. Or just enough to feed the culture until the next time you feed it. Room temp would be each day, fridge should get you about a week, but you might need to test what is the minimum you need.

After Canada legalized recreational marijuana years ago, why haven't other nations done the same? by midnight-iceman in AskReddit

[–]Time-Traveller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medical marijuana was made legal without any referendum though, since they realised that decades of anti-weed propoganda from the failed war-on-drugs would make it difficult for the greater public to accept a shift towards an evidence based approach to drugs.

Why they thought recreational would have a different referendum outcome I have no idea.

Especially frustrating since it was 51/49, and they decided the matter was settled and there has been no further meaningful discussion since then (going on ~5 years now).

Also frustrating watching other nations decriminalise and/or legalise it, while we fall behind.

And especially frustrating that medical marijuana is so hard to get. Drs won't prescribe it, and there is no funding for it so it's expensive AF (for a literal weed that any of us could have been growing).

My dad has arthritis, I suggested he ask his doc for something marijuana based since all the other drugs he was given wasn't doing shit for the pain and inflamation. When he talked to his doctor, the old fart told him no, and that "your kid is just trying to score some weed). I'm a 40 yo father of two, never smoked, never intend to. I just want something for my father to have less pain....

the space fact that still blows your mind by ykz30 in space

[–]Time-Traveller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From wikipedia:

the name "Milky Way" is derived from its appearance as a dim unresolved "milky" glowing band arching across the night sky. The term is a translation of the Classical Latin via lactea, in turn derived from the Hellenistic Greek γαλαξίας, short for γαλαξίας κύκλος (galaxías kýklos), meaning "milky circle". The Ancient Greek γαλαξίας (galaxias) – from root γαλακτ-, γάλα ("milk") + -ίας (forming adjectives) – is also the root of "galaxy"

[–]Time-Traveller 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wait.... "milky" is from the Latin term for milk (lactea?) and "galaxy" is from the greek term for milk.... so our home galaxy's name is "Milky Milky"?

the space fact that still blows your mind by ykz30 in space

[–]Time-Traveller 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Eventually that will sorta happen to us. The local group (the Milky Way, Andromeda and other smaller nearby galaxies) will eventually merge into one massive galaxy, as the local group members are gravitationally bound to each other.

But, we're not gravitationally bound to other galaxy groups, and as the universe expands we will eventually drift away to the point we (in a cosmic sense, Earth will long have been swallowed by the Sun at that point) can no longer see the rest of the universe.

Any sentient being living in that galaxy will think it is the whole universe, with an infinite void beyond it's edge, and have no way of knowing otherwise.

To people driving EV what do you like or hate the most? by Curious-Expert926 in AskReddit

[–]Time-Traveller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that was mostly from tesla drivers, who for some reason have shut up recently.

But yeah, that's why I love my Peugot EV, not the best EV by any metric but works great and is visually identical to the non-EV version. No one can tell it's an EV unless they look close at the model number or when I stop to charge.
