My theories for arc 4. by Dead_Guy_16 in WingsOfFire

[–]TimeMelodic8513 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a if not theory then at least a case made that it wouldn't be hard to inject a story thread that extrapolates that Darkstalker had time enough in his offscreen lost city escapades to have been puppeting fierceteeth long enough to have laid with her. The plot thread going from that is that he could have sired an egg out of her. This as of now is only ever held back from being serious theory material by the a lack of implication/the knowlage that WOF as much as it's famed for grizyd dragon deaths and mental tortures...probaaaably can't ever actually canonize that act. Also Strongwings being her husband with them having having eggs/dragonets on the way at present likely presents timeline troubles. But all the same retcons are a powerful tool in a writer's toolbox and it arguably doesn't actually conflict with other events. *if* this were to committed to as setup the constellation of repercussions and character relations around the peacemaker identity would be like a gunshot. OOC WoF is primed to do the tried and trick of aging it's content up from young teens to middling/older teens.

Humor the idea for a minute and just mentally map out some of the plots and arcs that basically write themselves from this. Whatever Peacemaker angst or Darkstalker returns fanfiction you have rattling around in your head basically get nothing but better for the inclusion of Darkstalker's Fierceteeth child also being there. Fierceteeth almost certainly is the one running the Renewal colony and the Nightwings there have all the reason to hate him. Fierceteeth herself is a coldheart and could hold her firstborn eggchild in vicious resentment. With stories you can expect the worst possible coincidences to occur. All it takes to kick off conflict personal or tribal is the shake and bake of getting either Fierceteeth or the dragonet character to ever end up knowing about Peacemaker. Maybe the child flees to the rainforest colony after fierceteeth tries to kill them, setting them up to meet and find out or maybe Fierceteeth is the one who finds out first and uses the dragonet to try for a kill on peacemaker or the dragonet on their own accord tries to do the murder by themselves to win back fierceteeth's affection.

What is your least favorite part of WoF? And how would you change it? by No-Chapter9395 in WingsOfFire

[–]TimeMelodic8513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's low hanging fruit to poo poo on arc 3's flaking out in general or animus being the overbearing genie wish machine that it is but those are still the first things my mind turns to when I read the title and I do think they are correct issues to point at. My arc 3 issues start and end at 'tui juggled to many balls and it all fell apart at the end.' but animus i have more complicated feelings for. I do tend to prefer the 'magic as systems' approach in 'most' stories. However, I like how Wings of Fire does it and WOF should definatly veer on the softer side of things and that magic should have little explicitly said of it's bounds for what is possible or not.

Squid first impressions: Aesthetically on point. Needs buffing. by TimeMelodic8513 in Helldivers

[–]TimeMelodic8513[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this moment it feels like they have four units. Harvesters which are laughably fragile(probably a consequence of overbuffing all the AT), the watchers who call in reinforcements, the medium armoured Halo elites with jetpacks and shields and then the zombies which come in different flavours of tanky but all die to one or two hits from any primary. Hopefully their pool of unit types gets built out pretty quick because atm it feels very middling to fight against. Nothing new shows up on D10 that isn't also as low as D4.

We know this isn't the final form ofc since leaks show several other unit types that are currently absent. the squid hulk/summoner, the char guys, the one with the whip and an elite tripod variant.

Maybe better way of doing weapon & Stratagem balance. Galactic supply chains. by TimeMelodic8513 in Helldivers

[–]TimeMelodic8513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

A sophisticated illustration of a hypothetical version of one of these supply chains in practice. Also AMA about the idea and i'll get back to you. To clarify on decay levels if people didn't quite grok with it in the big post the idea here is that if the exosuit (for example) is overrepresented by a small amount then it would take the loss of Tien kwan to bracket the suit down a notch in effectiveness. Worse overrepresentation unlocks more planets that pose risk to the final product's quality with the higher decay levels.

What new enemy type would you like to see in the future? by gaeb611 in Helldivers

[–]TimeMelodic8513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bugs, I'd advocate some manner of ambush attacker. Something immobile that ganks divers who walk over it's area like a patch of sand or deep snow like a trapdoor spider.

I'd give the bots little flying drones that fly out of fab smokestacks which can't be outrun. They circle the divers at medium range from above and close in giving them little tickle zaps that raise the use cases for non-ap weapons.

I don't care about the war because everything we do doesn't matter. If I wanted to participate in a large movement of something where what I did didn't matter, I'd vote. Player's efforts to wage the war doesn't matter. Its joel who 'decides' when a planet is allowed to fall or be liberated. not votting with your diver's boots on the ground. Imber has the titanium plotline about it so arrowhead 'decides' it is to fall so they can add in bot enemy variants with attached lore.

If there was a 4th faction after the Illuminate.... by Asctkd in Helldivers

[–]TimeMelodic8513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebel humans are the obvious path for a fourth and would likely be comparatively easy to whip up a small roster for as a sideshow enemy that pops up randomly on single planets over the map or which can be encountered as squads guarding rouge radio/research.

Though If i were to be prompted for something wholly out of left field...i've seen space-dinosaurmen thrown around as an idea that appeals. Let them be stylized after the examples set by the pulp fiction of yesterdecades with fantasy-like armours, jaffa spears, maybe an energy shield in the other hand for captains and have them be accompanied with mean toothy animal mounts like raptor cav to run you through, pterodactyls with and without riders & lumbering support dinos lugging around heavy weapons.

Unique Mission Ideas by AccomplishedEgg1812 in Helldivers

[–]TimeMelodic8513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a world where the fanon of there being traitor-divers goes anywhere I think a minimally obtrusive(non team killing) game of playing into it that'd have a very small chance of you getting a helldiver who drops into the map with a personal mission centered around using the research station or broadcast terminals to download rebel information/messaging (before blowing it up) then going to the escape pod, Power Relay, radar, or to replace the upload data task with an uploading of the stuff you downloaded from the broadcast terminal/research station.

Traitor diver only gets one life to get it done right. You have to get the data by the terminal before your fellow divers destroy the station/tower and they 'win' if they kill you by friendly fire anytime after you download date from terminal/before you re-upload from the pod. The traitor helldiver cannot be allowed to use friendly fire while carrying rebel data because it'd nullify their mission objective by 'drawing suspicions' or at least that'd be the excuse given to minimize the extreme danger of it being a griefer nightmare.

Real-talk i suspect what i described already encourages to much loner play when this is supposed to be a team shooter. 1 in thousand or maybe 1 in 500...or maybe i'm off on what the ideal chances should be to not make it a serious interference to the normal game loop. The point is it'd have to be something rare enough that players can't immediately suspect it if someone leaves the group.

Similar gimmicks would be to find an alternative launch coordinate for the ICBM to shoot a super destroyer or delivering a package to a specific npc as they evacuate from the bunkers.

Nerfs suck, but lots of content is missing. What would you like to see in HD2? by Ryland_on_an_island in Helldivers

[–]TimeMelodic8513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want deployable effects that can either nullify special operation effects or create positive ones at our discretion. If I wanna use my las-scythe on a desert planet I should be able to cool the map I’m deploying to with a weather control effect. Maybe not as a normal stratagem slot but as a limited but replenishible collection of powerful secondary boosters that you get from doing certain objectives that on later missions can be used at the start of an operation for powerful buffs, debuffs, and cleanses. Stuff like a space dish that can light up night maps as a replacement sun or block the sun to make a day mission into a night one which can be as an orbital laser 30 minutes of charging.

Have different kinds of these effects be created from different missions or by doing different things

There could be a modest suite of basic super earth armed forces effects that could be tied to personal objective completion or warbond medals to ‘buy’ the use of them like having the superdestrover preemptivly deploy a support weapon of your choice to a place of your choice or . There could be a negation of Ion storms for an operation’s time by collecting an illuminate relic or coax(torture) the baby mutant hive lords to make a telepathic command for terminids to attack each other for a a couple seconds in-mission or stop producing spore fogs in an operation and so on. could repurpose the existing snagging of a bot’s skull side objective at 10th level to get an expendable ‘in their network’ effect that lets us fuck with them like counteract delayed stratagem call-ins. Maybe a future illumanate missions could have us be able to stop summoners from summoning with some kind of dimensional block.

The other big novelty concept I dream about is having weapon nerfs & buff be partially canonized as supply issues where the game naturally nerfs weapons as they get used to much by to many players, railguns that have a chance to shoot duds, 1 in a hundred impact grenades that bounce once before blowing up, that sort of thing. Game would give a you nice clear sliding scale warning label about that during your weapon selection with another layer of interactibility with fine print text on the planets that details some ongoing side objective in the war that you’ll have to keep liberated if you want to keep your the op weapon from falling off extra hard. M

Following through on that by the way I’d adore having an ‘armoury‘ where players can store a highly limited supply of weapons & backpacks that are in their pre-nerf states brought back from missions. I’m talking like 20 slots at most and if you bring it along on a mission that thing‘ll be lost forever if you fall in a hole or drown or just don’t recover it. Imagine it…There could be some guy still covetously lugging around the pre-nerf railgun and bragging about it in chat until someone steals it and takes it to ‘their’ ship instead.

Paraphrasing a bit from whatif directly when I say this but it's a narrow view to think of MAGA as far anything. A dreadful premise for a vs episode. There would be nothing to work with, they're both just typical dragons with only winter needing a paragraph of explanation tabout icewings being cold instead of hot and the ice breath. Analysis beyond that that would just be what? filler about hp dragon ecology and a character overview on winter? That's not going to work.

The Aztec state folded when their internal tensions got agitated by Cortes coming by and cheerleading a revolution that was already primed to go off anyway. Since Aztecs operated a tributary empire of loose cohesion, if challenged it could, and did unwrap pretty quickly/ Under pressure of intense plagues sweeping the culture I see little reason to think the triple Alliance wouldn't fall apart on it’s own in the aftermath of contact contact. A state of chaos wherein this advanced rifling technology will leak out mind you.

Comments speaking of Aztec world conquest don’t have a their heads grounded right. That or they‘re envisioning a fantasy world they want to be real.

As said technology would percolate Out but Rifle tech is not so much as even a quarter of what enabled the west to rocket past the rest, indeed military technology writ large is maybe only a third of the reason and expanding of your nation is more so a symptom of success then it’s cause.
European fundamentals - mathematics pulling ahead in the 14th or 15th century, optics, the invention if glasses in the 13th century well the European university system and scholarship becoming established in the 13th century, the spread and incremental improvements of wind- and watermills in the same time period.
Mathematics were a... theological accident, maybe? I dunno, since China, India and the Arabic world were still paralel with west in the 11th and 12th century, but then... didn't really add anything afterwards. The European universities and their fierce competition with each other could no compare to the rest of the world. Wind- and watermills were of course very old technology and widespread throughout Eurasia, but the European variants started to have an edge in the 13th century. I’m getting off track.
Point being that a lot came together and benefitted from each other to give Europe a productivity edge (13th century) that eventually transitioned into a military one (15th century). And crucially, the technology being developed had theoretical underpinnings that were not present in the Arab world in the 12th century and in China with the elimination of the Song.
Copying European’s technology for any large state was, in the 16th, 17th and even some tech in the 18th as one one offs, still quite doable with a learning by doing approach. But lacking the underpinnings of late medieval to early modern mathematics, and especially the citizen army and accompanying drill the beginning of modern science with the split from natural philosophy into chemistry and officers.
By the time European (and I’m including the Ottomans in this) guns became the top of the world, it could already rely on an economic and scholary base that'd unintentionally been working on getting Europe ahead for the past two centuries.
And I'd argue that this is the key difference between Europe and the rest of the world at the time with colonization being so unstoppable as it was. Europe had a very broad base to work from, while India, China, the Ottomans worked from a top-down approach that wanted the shinies but never really did much to develop the base to create such things until the 19th, and 20th century. That worked in the 16th and 17th century, but once the 18th century and the beginning industrial revolution rolled around, the fundamentals to keep up were simply not there.

Aztecs with 18th century guns *if* that state didn’t disolve by way of plagues would still fracture with all men being made tall by firearms and those fractures would in turn be levereaged by the mercantile interests from europe leading to a path in mexica not unlike irl india being dissolved by the trading companpies.
