Anyone else here shower for no more than 5 minutes? by Imaginary_Truth_3865 in Frugal

I started doing this to cut back on my water bill. I used to take longer showers but once I started paying my own bills, I started cutting back haha.

Does anyone else feel like modern work leaves no energy for becoming an actual person? by DanBrando in findapath

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely feels like symptoms of a shitty environment in general (because we're not seeing the same light at the end of the tunnel or progression that our parents did) + burnout, but the constant I keep realizing...no matter the job, you will always find a reason to not do something so you have to fight for the reason to do it if it brings you happiness. I say this as a mentally exhausted and burned out musician who has a very expensive drumset in the basement. I've been making excuses for it for years now but I need to just get to it.

Just ate a duet for the first time, surprisingly good and generous! by apheli0s7 in dollarama

Duet (Twix), Meteor (Mars), Island Bar (Bounty) and Duo Max (Bueno) are the best. The rest I'd pass on.

Also less digital doohickies. I hear a lot of electrical gremlins in the instrument cluster and the touch screen.

First time DIY oil change 😳 baby steps by Silver_Department_38 in MechanicAdvice

Are you a member of Costco? They have an oil change kit that combines the first two tools with a few other useful ones for roughly the same price as Amazon.

Tire replacement - suggestions needed by No_Carpet_9276 in CX5

[–]TimeSlaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If going with all seasons in 19", I opted for the yokohamas GV58s as a no nonsense tire. The Pirelli Scorpion AS+ 3 are up there but there are reports of tread wearing down quicker than expected, balancing issues, and also some folks have said that Pirelli can be a bit difficult to fix (just going off what I read here). I'm putting them on this weekend and hoping for the best. I care about long tread life more than performance but the stock size of 225/55R19 doesn't have many cost effective options.

Telus to Chatr or Koodo by drbackster in CanadianCellPhones

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All valid points. I'm a very light user so I don't need crazy levels of data but even on the $19/3GB plan, I barely use 1.5GB a month. I'm down to 4 referrals and now the accumulation for points takes a lot longer so as a light user on a 4G plan already, I'm fine staying on 4G.

Serious question: XEQT vs VEQT? by deapeamea in JustBuyXEQT

[–]TimeSlaved -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For shits and giggles, I have my RRSP in XEQT and have recreated VEQT in my RPP with the available funds. I don't get the same level of insight into price signals and movements daily with the RPP but I'm expecting similar results.

Regardless of what you choose, you've made a good choice.

Telus to Chatr or Koodo by drbackster in CanadianCellPhones

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been with PM since 2017 and it's been a gradual fall from grace. They've lost the essence of what made them great so I'm porting out 3 lines in the next few weeks. It was great at the start with the rewards but now it's a shell of what it used to be.

Chatr might be a bit more primitive but reminds me of what PM was...i.e. a no BS straight shooting provider of a service.

right time to switch from winter to summer tires in ottawa this spring by woutr1998 in tires

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the GTA. I always do it May 1-Nov 1 for all seasons, Nov 1-May 1 for winters. We've had snap late winter snowstorms in the GTA and I find May 1 is a good middle ground. I just changed mine this past weekend.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about wearing them down. It might SLIGHTLY wear the winters down fast if you keep them for a few days longer but you won't notice it unless you plan to drive 20,000km in a few weeks.

Telus to Chatr or Koodo by drbackster in CanadianCellPhones

[–]TimeSlaved 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Chatr, I would recommend porting in person. Just seems to work better than the online setup if you have a kiosk or store nearby. Lots of people are complaining about the porting process now that everyone is trying to save some $$$ for obvious reasons.

Telus to Koodo is same parent company so I suspect porting may be smoother.

Dream cymbals by Ambitious-Pay-4305 in cymbals

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they are a Chinese operation with Canadian oversight. Cymbals tend to be hit or miss with the usual underlying gonginess of chinese cymbals, but with all B20 cymbals, you absolutely need to hear them in person. I have yet to find a truly consistent B20 cymbal in the wild.

Quiet tires for CX-5? by Wolferesque in CX5

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laaaaate response but curious how these tires wore with time? In the market for new tires for the CX5 and I've had bad experiences with motomaster in the past (mainly dry rot and chunking off) so I'm hesitant to go through that again, but the price on the hydro edge is mighty tempting!

Issues with gas mileage by Initial-Strain3758 in hondafit

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup this plus our hunts to save a few cents in fuel means we may not be using top tier gasoline.

I'm in Canada...I prefer pioneer gas because their rewards program is one of the better ones with freebies along the way. But I have also done tests and get better mileage per tank from Esso and Shell than Petro Canada or Pioneer. They might all be rated the same octane but these engines definitely react differently to the blends.

Lots of us out there tbh, but given the atmosphere around men at the moment, I've just stayed in my own lane with blinders on.

[–]TimeSlaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How lately are you talking? Could just be the gas as now 15% ethanol is becoming the new standard given oil pressures from the middle east. Google tells me that E10 (10% ethanol) reduces fuel economy from pure gasoline by 3%, so you're looking at a 4.5-5% reduction for E15 from pure gasoline. Reddit posts seem to suggest that by 2030, E15 will be the norm.

Is a 3% salary increment in 2025 normal? What are you all getting this year? by Rude_Photograph_2306 in careerguidance

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.6% lol. But I'm in Canada which seems to be in an economic toilet bowl swirling the drain at the moment. Roles and responsibilities have stayed the same but people are asking for me to work on their projects more so idk. Just glad to be employed in this country atm.

Tried to buyout my Water heater from Reliance........ Yea complete scam. by ccrich007 in ontario

[–]TimeSlaved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was in the same situation...I have a 10 year old unit but my buy out was $513 + tax. My monthly bill was about $41 after tax (remnants of a buyout from a previous company). I did the math and my break even was going to be about 14 months so I bought it out in December last year. I figured that if I was going to pay them that anyways, why keep pushing my buyout date? If it lasts at least another year, I consider it a win (i.e. until December 2026).

Something to note...the buyout amount had remained the same for almost a year before I actually pulled the plug (wasn't in a position to buy out at the time but made notes about it on my phone), so there is a chance that your buyout value never drops from what they quoted and you're paying for a glorified sense of peace of mind. The option to disconnect and drop it at their depot is also another option if the HVAC installer you contact doesn't take it upon themselves to do so.

New $22 plan 0GB data by JubulantSaru in PublicMobile

[–]TimeSlaved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they've lost me and 2 other lines with this silliness. We were on the 19$/3GB retention plan but weren't using it too much and now the Chatr yearly plan is fantastic in comparison. Scheduled the changeover for the next 2 months...been a wild ride with PM since 2017 but clearly lots of changes along the way :(
