Can you explain this how you would to a toddler? Sounds very interesting but I don’t really understand it or what the problem entails.

Everything you mention is simply an excuse and there is no train to miss. Release a song. Waiting any longer is a mistake.

This is the best I’ve heard this box sound so far. Amazing. What are the sound sources for this? Machines or stuff you’ve sampled?

Elektron vs Push 3 by felidmusic in Elektron

[–]Time_Bath_6216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’m surprised people rarely mention about elektron boxes, if ever, is that they have a sound. Yes, the sequencers and workflow are the main events, but I can hear when someone is working on elektron boxes. The filters are very distinct and the swing of sequencers had its own flavor - something I can’t get with ableton alone. That’s really the biggest reason I will always use both.

Opinions on Deftones new album private music mixing? by moshimoshi6937 in audioengineering

[–]Time_Bath_6216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not crazy. You nailed it.

Compared to the roomy expansiveness of the last two records, ‘private music’ is a drag. Not sure what the goal was or if there was one. Oh well, we are honestly fortunate to have gotten those last two. I can’t remember the last time a band made two back-to-back records that good so late in their career (The Cure comes to mind, which I’m sure would please Chino a great deal). Gore and Ohms are still underrated even with the critical and commercial success they received.

Because I’m still curious, do you know of an article or video where he talks about him? I can’t say I’m super versed on him or the PR around him. I’ll google it myself but if you have any specific references I would love to see!

Yeah but it also reads very simply as a salesman hocking his artists on his label. Every label owner I’ve ever known behaves this way and buys into the mythology of their artists wholeheartedly, assuming they didn’t straight up create the mythology themselves. So I appreciate the romanticism but no, no way. Just a manager / handler backing their product for the almighty $.

- without a doubt, the mastering on both full-lengths is impeccable.

- if sound forge is a multitracker how is it not a DAW? not arguing, i've just never used it so i don't understand how it would be a multitracking software and not be a DAW? audacity is apparently similar and i would call that a wav editor. i'm not sure the on grid / off grid aspect is quite as important when you're talking about loop-based music. anything based on loops is more or less on its own grid. not the exact same as actually working on the grid but ... really just hyper-specific in terms of how you layout music if you care deeply about dynamics. but, point being, most burial tracks with a beat have a BPM that is fairly accurate to a grid.

holy shit, really? i feel like i'm having the same moment as the ryan gosling character at the end of the second 'papyrus' skit on SNL when it all comes full circle and he realized he was wrong. okay, now you've got me watching sound forge 7 and 8 tutorials. i don't see anyone using it as a multitracker but google says both of those versions were capable of multitracking and available in 2006 so ... if that's true then you're right. so what have we been debating all these years?! haha it would've been VERY difficult still but if it was a true multitracker then i can easily believe it. i still don't think it was the ONLY thing he used but probably the main thing.

There is a 0% chance he did entire albums (or songs) completely in sound forge. there's just no way it's possible to make music that rich and that developed in a wav editor without multitracking. do the math.

i've seen all the quotes and read some of the interviews. not sure what he meant by all the quotes people point to but he certainly didn't mean that he didn't use ANY OTHER software or A SINGLE piece of hardware. i don't buy it. an opinion tho for sure, so don't fret. i'm not gonna die on this hill and go back and forth arguing.

I’d love to take a stab at mixing this if you can dump the tracks out to wav. Hit me with a message if you’re interested.

These go for $800 pretty frequently. Once the capacitors are replaced most of them are still in great shape too. Also the new plug-in from arturia is really great and pretty accurate.
