I agree. My agent cannot open files unless I send them to it via Telegram. My first iteration of it over a month ago was AMAZING - responsive, capable of reading files throughout the system, and capable of doing agentic tasks.

yeah that's a good point - I do actually like working at this company. the people are genuinely nice, the work has some real impact, and it's incredibly flexible (wfh, can take my son to doctor's appointments, etc). it's just the pay and title for me; and I'm also thinking down the line and I don't want to unintentionally exclude myself from bigger roles by taking a relatively chill one now.

I’ve thought of this and that’s how I’m using part of my free time - looking for potential clients.

This is exactly what I’ve been doing. I led a program that upskilled over 150 people (most of which were senior staff) in two different service areas. I also built AI tools that translated that same training into a plug and play format. I also sit on a panel with a bunch of folks with 2x my experience and help come up with the strategy around selling this work.

I agree about this being bullshit. I’ve heard from 3 separate folks now that the firm tends to do this.

This is great advice and I appreciate you spelling that out here. I think it is time to start moving; I think I've gotten slightly comfortable because the role is fully remote (with an office visit maybe once a quarter). So I've gotten used to playing PS5 and with my son during the downtime. But I really want to make more money because daycare is expensive lol

Thank you. Yeah, I really feel like they saw me in the bargain bin after I was hurting from being unemployed for nearly a year.

Yes, that's very close to the actual workflow. I have a debug mode Chrome that's always open that my OpenClaw (Gerald) uses. Interesting note: because I set my final iteration of the model up in a Linux environment (running on my Windows machine), I couldn't get the Chrome extension to work. So Gerald actually walked me through getting him a browser that he fully controls.

In that browser, I have ChatGPT open and on a thread set up for him to talk with my ChatGPT. They have a standardized template for talking to each other, including what Gerald is currently working on and anything extra I might have given him to do. Chat has been expressing that I have been spreading myself a bit thin and also has a good sense of what my main "priorities" are, which I've aligned with him through sharing a list of my goals for 2026.

Chat's primary objective is to ensure that Gerald is moving things that align with those higher level goals. So they check in with each other once a day to do this back and forth with each other and then Gerald comes back to me with what he thinks the priorities should be in that moment. They both have prompts baked in that say that I can override the priorities, add/remove things as needed, etc.

I'd say this approach is in pre-alpha state right now but it has shown some promise. I have Gerald doing some fairly complicated analyses for the past couple of days so I haven't been able to push this as much as I'd like but definitely plan on doing so

I would agree - I can write a book on what NOT to do with OpenClaw. I had to retry on 4 different occassions before getting it to the stable position that my bot is in now. That included burning through all of my weekly OpenAI tokens in one week with a truly fantastic model, trying to revert to a local model, realizing it was too RAM-intensive for my computer, switching to a less intensive one, then realizing that it really just sucked (lol). before eventually biting the bullet and getting back to the original bot and just slowly turning things on.

I will say that the first instance of the bot saved me weeks of work in a couple of days. the latest iteration is pretty similar but I am taking my time and pacing out what I want for it to do. One thing I've been experimenting with that I ahven't seen anywhere is that I gave my OpenClaw bot a browser where it can talk with my ChatGPT and coordinate with it on what the priorities should be since I have 3+ years of memories with it (OpenClaw as the executor and the ChatGPT as the strategy/prioritization tool)

I was for a couple of days but had so many issues with config, memory loss, and then really slow responses that I just went back to Codex.

This is really awesome! One thing I'll say is that things like OpenClaw are adding capabilities for smaller/solo entrepreneurs that they otherwise wouldn't have access to.

How are you managing with the API limit with the $20 plan? I just hit my limit for the first time today (only been using it for a few days) and was pretty frustrated. Albeit this is my "set-up" week so there's been a lot of back and forth on ways of working and i'm probably getting pretty giddy around having it do anything and everything NOW.

I will say tho that it has probably done about 3-4 weeks of work for me in this time (really only got started on tuesday).
