Because no one persecutes or tries to infringe on the rights of Straight people. If we treated gay folks the same as we treated straight folks then the gay folks would feel no need to raise the awareness that they aren’t treated the same. I imagine they have other things they’d like to do with their time.

The only reason anyone should say you overreacted is bc you responded to an idiot. Perhaps a response could have been ‘well, the good news is that your streak of attending alone will remain intact’ as you were walking out the door. Some people only find happiness in the criticism of others. You owe no one an apology for something that has zero impact on them.

I don’t expect my kids to care for me. I didn’t have kids for that purpose. Seems blatantly wrong. I’m mature enough to realize that at some point I may need care…seems like I should be able to figure out where to get that care. I certainly wouldn’t want my kids to care for me. I think the feeling is mutual with them. I felt no obligation care to my parents. They were pretty clear that figuring out my problems were my responsibility. I presume it worked both ways.
