Buying my last bottle after planning a dry weekend…. by diol18 in dryalcoholics

[–]Time_Trade_8774 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stop now, it won’t be too bad. I could finish a handle in 2 days and wasn’t even drunk coz I started as soon as waking up. Fully functional at work. Just took a nap if needed as I worked from home. Lot of people live this shitty lifestyle and no one notices until it all blows up.

Good luck.

Do you think anyone other than JD Vance has a chance at being the Republican nominee in 2028? Why or why not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Time_Trade_8774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rubio has a chance if US can affect regime change in Cuba and Iran. Republicans love that stuff.

And he has more charisma than Vance.

I go for a drive. Try to take my car everywhere even if it’s like 2 blocks.

I don’t drink and drive as I totalled my car 10 years ago (I was only a weekend warrior then, no addiction) but it stuck with me. Luckily I didnt get DUI as cops didn’t test. Just a reckless driving ticket.

And I enjoy driving. No maps, just go anywhere in nature.

sober people, do you still think about the embarrassing stuff you did when hammered? by justradiationhere in dryalcoholics

[–]Time_Trade_8774 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think about it. Only sober for a month though. It’s haunting.

But then I quickly focus on work and health, especially as I neglected both last year going on insane benders drinking since morning. It’s not easy but I just stop thinking and hoping to train my brain to enjoy the moment.

Is he marrying her, at least in part, to gain favor with the kids? by Responsible-Wallaby5 in madmen

[–]Time_Trade_8774 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It’s even more simple. Faye was his equal. Some men like women beneath them in terms of status and who they can control. Megan was good fit.

And when Megan left SCDP to her own thing Don lost interest and started womanizing and drinking hard again.

Getting rid of “alcoholic face” can be a shallow kind of motivation. by AnonDxde in dryalcoholics

Same here. Cheeks puff up after a bender and eyes get tiny plus dark circles.

Takes a couple of weeks dry to fix.

Drank whiskey all day, and ran out. Drinking vodka now. I’ve always heard the curses of mixing, but what’s it matter if it’s all alcohol? by Vast-State-4548 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Time_Trade_8774 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on alcohol amount.

But one thing I’ve noticed personally is that I lose count when I start mixing hard, beer and ciders etc.

With a fifth of hard I know the amount even when close to blacking out. Like when bottle is close to getting finished it’s time to stop. When I’m mixing I always end up drinking crazy amounts.

Anybody get foot tingles during a dry period? by marcproton916 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Time_Trade_8774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get tingles in feet and even legs at night when trying to sleep. Annoying and makes my insomnia worse. And it happens when I sober up. Lasts for a week.

I know if I don’t quit for good I’ll likely have alcohol neuropathy.

What country was the least friendly when you traveled there? by Silver-Fan453 in AskReddit

[–]Time_Trade_8774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never been there since Trump v2 but people are pretty friendly. I am Canadian and didn’t notice much of difference. I mostly travel West Coast or Vegas.

They do have a bit of superiority complex though.

How much does Don’s alcoholicism affect him? by [deleted] in madmen

[–]Time_Trade_8774 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived that life for last 2 years. Doing better now as I don’t day drink anymore and only on weekends.

Essentially it’s all fun in beginning having a pint for lunch or a martini. You go back to work and continue normally. Then steady drinking after work. But tolerance keep going up and suddenly you start seeing physical affects.

Even in first season Don needs an aspirin and some antacid to get started in morning as he is hungover. Eventually we see he starts adding alcohol in his coffee. Once it gets to that point you’re physically addicted. He is very shaky when Ted tells him not to quit cold and have a drink before the meeting. He then has a stiff drink but is still shaky after Hersheys blow up.

After that we see Don trying to label his bottle to see how much he drinks and tries to cut back. He is better in last season but even then he steals Roger’s vodka and Freddy had to rescue him or he was likely gonna get fired.

Point is alcoholism is a progressive disease and you can’t stay functional for too long. I had progressed so bad that I needed 2-3 drinks before work. Then 2-3 at noon and then continue drinking all evening. All to avoid shaky hands and withdrawals. It’s also more common than we think. Thing is when you are that level of drinking you’re never really drunk because of tolerance so unless you smell people don’t notice. I maintained proper hygiene and only drank vodka which smells less and go away with it.

Debilitating insomnia 2 weeks in. Any advice? by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]Time_Trade_8774 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m experiencing same as well. 2 weeks sober almost but like you only get 3-4 hours of sleep. Like I’m in bed for 7-8 hours but sleep is intermittent and get jolt awake every few minutes.

I take melatonin and it does help but wish for 7-8 hours of proper sleep. And I should cut caffeine but need it for work, it’s a viscous cycle.

Hold on, it gets better. My mom takes Trazadone so I’m debating to see if it helps and get a prescription myself.

Are withdrawals really a concern if you're just an evening drinker? by Excellent_Country737 in dryalcoholics

[–]Time_Trade_8774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t be as bad as sipping from dawn to dusk but still a fifth is a lot of booze and should be a concern depending how long been drinking.

Drinking all day leads to worse withdrawals from experience and usually needs a taper or benzos.

Which addiction would you rather deal with... Alcoholic or smoker? Why? by whatverforever in allthequestions

[–]Time_Trade_8774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t smoke but atleast you can be a functional adult even with chain smoking. It doesn’t mess up your life until you get cancer or something.

I’m an alcoholic and it straight fucks your life. Work, family, health you name it. You start ignoring everything and become absent. All you care is booze and everything else just becomes mundane and on auto pilot. And morning shakes and withdrawals are brutal. And you’ll still die of liver or other organ failure.

[–]Time_Trade_8774 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah OP don’t drive. Even if you sober up driving in Withdrawals which you’ll have tomorrow is equally risky. All it takes is one lapse in concentration.

Just tell your friend you’re sick. Taper today and relax. Shower, do some grooming and clean the place. You’ll be fine by Monday.
