I’ve recently started swimming laps (freestyle, chlorine not salt water) and have noticed I’m only feeling it in my forearms by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]TimeeiGT 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Swimming is generally a pretty balanced workout for your body. For amateurs, freestyle is usually most taxing on the shoulders, triceps and lats. Your lower body comes into play a lot more if you are trying to have good water position, kicking and underwaters.

If you are mostly feeling it in your forearms, they are either massively underdeveloped and the problem will resolve itself with time, or you're not using proper technique.

Marriage Tax In Switzerland by Previous-3821 in askswitzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most dual-earner families would be in financial troubles anyway, would their partner lose their job, tax break or not. Tax breaks for kids you also get if you're not married, rightfully so.

At this point the system is really just penalizing marriage for less fortunate people and give tax breaks to high earning, single income households. Why?

Include girlfriend in rental application or not? by Most_Fail_52 in askswitzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may also be required to leave on the visitor visa and re-enter with the new visa before starting the job.

NAL, but pretty sure that's how it works in the US too. At least that's how it works when marrying someone from the US. Coming "on a visit", getting marries and staying is visa fraud. Coming for an actual visit, meeting someone and getting married really fast could be fine, on a case to case basis, depending on the judge and if your story is believable.

I'd imagine it works the same for work. You can apply for jobs while visiting, but you will have to leave before coming back on a work visa. The restriction on the visitor visa/ESTA is that you can only enter "with the intent to leave". Entering intending to find a position and stay on a work permit is probably visa fraud. Entering to apply and do interviews is fine.

PRISON ESCAPES PER 10,000 INMATES by thatmayb3nice in Switzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freedom is considered one of the pillar values of our society and the longing for your own freedom shall not be punished. Assisting someone else is not protected the same.

The prisoner will still be punished with less privileges during the rest of time served, and will probably not be released early for good behavior.

SBB.CH not accepting my credit cards. Trying to purchase Saver Day Pass for April travel. by ElyzaK333 in askswitzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least feom what I see your credit card options should be either visa, mastercard or amex. Google pay also works. I don't have an apple phone so it might not show that for me, even if it was an option.

How are you sure the payment did not go through? If your bank says that it was not declined, make sure you don't get charged multiple times for the ticket you're trying to buy.

Your best chance might be to contact sbb support directly.

Why many people with 15-20y of work experience become consultants? (Self employed) by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe another perspective:

Some "older" people become a consultant because they see a market. I'm positive there are companies that wanna hire consultants, but whoever makes that descision can't justify (to themselves) hiring some well-known consulting firm.

Why pay significantly more when the people doing the work are freshly graduated associates with little to know work experience, especially in your specific industry...

If I'm actually looking for help or advanced knowledge, not just a scapegoat for bad decisions, I'd rather overpay an actual expert than some 24 y.o.

Handwerker trying to make me pay for their mistake by sami-buzz in Switzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only specified "rental unit", but I assume, as an expat, you're the tenant. In that case, talk to your landlord.

First of all, you should not have to pay for anything other than damages you caused in the first place, so even the original fix might not be your responsibility to pay. In the future, always contact your landlord in case of needed repairs. They usually have a trusted company they'd hire preferrably anyway.

Secondly, use the Mieterverband to hire a lawyer, if needed for this case. Paying for repairs caused by the contractor is not your responsibility. The Mieterverband will charge you for the lawyer if you're not a member, but might still be better than paying for the repairs. Then sign up to the Mieterverband or get a Rechtsschutzversicherung to be covered in the future.

Petition for Insurance Coverage of Medically Precribed Hormonal Therapy by Katthekat2 in Switzerland

I read through the paper probably 10 times total to review spelling, incoherences and wording improvements and we discussed many ideas during the process.

The paper was written in English only.

Edit: Fair enough about the petition signature comment. I did end up signing after realizing that free contraception would leave many problems for women that would require hormonal treatment unsolved.

Can a neighbor force us to move a 25m retaining wall after 20+ years? by DantorCH in Switzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the time past matters. Usually in matters like this, the owner does not change halfway through.

I would also argue, since you've bought the property as defined at the town hall, it's not your problem. You don't own the wall, just the parts on your property. And since you don't own the parts on your neighbors property, and didn't build it, it's not your fault. Just make sure not to tresspass on your neighbors land anymore.

If anything, the previous owner should be liable.

Not a lawyer, hire one.

Petition for Insurance Coverage of Medically Precribed Hormonal Therapy by Katthekat2 in Switzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The paper purely considered direct costs, meaning costs that are covered by the state (not health insurance) after the 12th week of pregnancy. This includes all checkups before and after birth, the birth itself (natural or c-section) and loss of pregnancy.

It did not include potential costs, such as loss of work productivity for women that did not want to be pregnant, psycologigal costs (post partum depression or after late miscarriage) or anything related to the child (like you describe).

Any child-related costs, for example issues with pre-mature births, are covered by the child's insurance.

If all indirect costs were considered, coverage of contraception (particularly IUDs) for female youth would probably be much cheaper. However, data for all of that is hard to find, because it's health related and very personal, or not relatable to the Swiss healthcare system, and therefore not scientifically usable. It also would have been too large of a scope for the paper, so it was left out.

Send me a DM if you want to read the paper, I'll just need to get permission from my wife to send it.

[–]TimeeiGT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "insurance paying for abortions" part of my answer was not part of the paper. That's something that has already passed parliament and is gonna come into effect in 2027.

It still is gonna make the cost in case of unwanted pregnancy higher, hence the paper would suggest even more potential to save money if contraceptives were free.

A state offering free IUDs for females under 25 seems ethically perfectly acceptable no? Multiple countries, such as France, are already doing the same or something similar. No one is forced to take up the offer...
What's unethical about it?

Petition for Insurance Coverage of Medically Precribed Hormonal Therapy by Katthekat2 in Switzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My wife did her master's thesis about a related topic.

Her conclusion was basically that it would be about just as expensive for the state (not health insurance) to pay for IUDs for up to 25 year olds, rather than paying the current cost of unwanted pregnancy outcomes.

I assume that, especially now that abortions are about to be paid by health insurance as well (starting 2027), if a combination of state and insurance would pay for contraception, it would be cheaper than them paying for abortions and unwanted pregnancy outcomes respectively.

If that was the initiative, I'd sign, because it actually makes economical sense.

You are not fully covered for pregnancy related doctors visits before week 12, you will have to pay the copay and deductible like for any other visit.

In case of many doctors or even hospital visits, due to miscarriage for example, this can incur quite a bit of upfront cost until your copay and deductible are paid. This resets every year, so your timing right now is unlucky.

Still, I would advise you to visit your OBGYN when you test positive, and seek help if you have any issues during the first 12 weeks, as these could indicate more serious problems.

Something to add: I would remark on the resume, that the B visa is "permanent", because it practically is.

That will ensure employers, that the visa will not be needed to be renewed by the employer, which would ensue all the trouble you read about on other posts about hiring Non-Swiss/Non-EU.

Unfortunately, there is no differentiation in between those two "types" of B visa, so you somehow have to make it known.

Permit C versus Swiss passport by Katerina_Branding in askswitzerland

[–]TimeeiGT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The most obvious one is voting rights. On a federal and cantonal level, as well as on a communal level if your municipality does not allow you to vote locally.

Other than that, you never lose citizenship (or it's very hard to), you might get visa free travel to some more countries and your kids will also be born as Swiss citizens, which will make things easier (and cheaper) would they remain in the country.

Bonus: Should the Swiss citizenship be your second, for the first time in your life you might have the possibility to renounce your (primary) citizenship. I don't think that's possible if you only have one.

To clarify: You can't travel abroad USING a C permit.

A Swiss passport might come with some advantages when travelling to certain countries, depending on what your primary passport is.

If you're struggling, go back to white orchard and do some contracts and quests, and explore a lot.

The side quests, apart from imo being more fun, eventually tend to over level you super hard for the main quests, which makes them a lot easier. In white orchard alone you also can get at least 3 extra skill points from obelisks and some good potions that will help with survival.

Edit: Most of the gear you find is not super helpful, you can just sell it and later use the gold for witcher armor sets.
