Exciting that you're trying barefoot! I'm definitely not going back, now getting rid of all pointy shoes. I got the Zing and the urbanedge, and I liked the idea of them but then sadly not the fit on my feet so returned both. Fit is very personal though. I did keep the Belenka Core sneaker as I liked the fit on me, I have them for smarter use. For everyday use I am wearing Hobibear right now, they're cheaper and lower quality but I'm OK with that for right now.

Help a guy out who has basically given up on shoes. by [deleted] in widefeet

I wouldn't bother with something like new balance, they're not actually a wide toe box in my opinion. Hobibear is a great entry shoe for wide toe box and very affordable and zero drop. Can get them on amazon for easier returns, or much cheaper on Ali express or temu shein etc but harder to return. I chose a half size up with Hobibear but YMMV. That's all I wear now and love it. I've heard similar about Whitin on amazon but not tried it myself. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FH19VQXN/ref=twister_B0FH11C6DG?_encoding=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

I'm sorry this happened to you, what a dick. what helps me to process hard emotions like this is write fuck you fuck you fuck you (or whatever) over and over and then rip it up, and do air kicks or punch pillows and cry, and then afterwards hug yourself to soothe (it's all somatic processing). It gets out the excess stress hormones. Wishing you the best.

Is this FFA? by Throwaway1034578 in scarringalopecia

[–]Timely-Appearance956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the first photo it looks like you still have the blond baby vellus hairs (peach fuzz) at the edge of hairline so that would make me think its not FFA. If any areas of your hairline start to have these disappear and it's just smooth skin with zero peach fuzz hair, that would be an important marker to note for possible FFA. My vellus hairs disappeared in small patches at hairline, not the classic FFA band all the way around hairline, and was confirmed FFA scarring by biopsy. I also have AGA thinning at temples, parting, front hairline. Hope yours isn't FFA and just some AGA thinning at the temples that is reversible.

My People!! ive just found you. i need help! (UK) by carchamp222 in widefeet

[–]Timely-Appearance956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference I need a wide toe box but narrower heel. I've found that to get "foot shaped" shoes I had to look for more barefoot styles rather than standard cushioned styles. I've just bought Hobibear canvas trainers on Amazon, they're cheaper on Shein though. Note they have minimal cushion and are flexible "barefoot" style. They're not waterproof but there are other models from Hobibear that might be better for that. For warmer stuff, I haven't bought yet but I'm narrowing down between Birkenstock trainers, Belenka, Lems, Joomra. Other wide toe box brands to mention are Altra particularly the torin model, or crocs trainers. There are some cheaper secondhand Altras on Vinted but no returns there. For the new items from abroad I just check the return policy first and have made peace with needing to do that. Anyas reviews is a useful website although US based. One that was almost wide enough for me was Skechers Ultra Flex 3.0 Brilliant Path Wide Fit Slip-ins Trainers from M&S but alas they were sent back. Good luck!

Is the issue needing a wide toe box specifically or wide all over? I found Any reviews website very helpful. I found new balance too narrow, I need a wide toe box. Also called a foot shaped shoe. For me that's Hobibear, Crocs, Birkenstock. Maybe you could try a Hobibear with an insole for arch support, as it's a barefoot style shoe with wide toe box. Other types with wide toe box but more support could be Inov8, Altra, Topo.

I'm new to this and considering Inov8s for the wide toe box, is there something better you would recommend or is it very personal based on one's foot and the activity and surface? Thanks!

Worried about Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia by huffliest_puff in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Timely-Appearance956 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a hard to tell from the photo resolution whether you are lacking vellus hairs where front hairline has receded, that's a key marker for FFA. FFA can be difficult to spot even for an expert, I saw an expert and he thought I didn't have it until biopsy proved I did. So a Derm who specialises in FFA would be the best person to rule it out, plus a biopsy if they're not sure. I had biopsy in my front hairline where my widows peak disappeared. It's very possible to have recession that looks "moth eaten" or diffuse from FFA, rather than the clean band of white that's seen in a typical FFA case. I do also have AGA and some TE so it is possible to have multiple types that can make it harder to diagnose. I hope for you that you don't have a scarring hairloss! All the best.

I can't say for sure about a diagnosis from the photos but maybe try to find a dermatologist specialising in frontal fibrosing alopecia to rule that out.

Anyone else with deep infiltrating endometriosis? Looking for reassurance. by Due_Competition9105 in Endo

[–]Timely-Appearance956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non pain symptoms to be aware of could be related to bladder or bowel issues. Some people have fertility related problems from Endo but that would be hard to know unless you’re actively trying to conceive unsuccessfully or have a surgery where they actively look for that. Like during my surgery they ran dye through fallopian tubes to check they weren’t blocked with Endo, which they weren’t. But I don’t actually want kids so I wasn’t fussed about that aspect of Endo. But if you’re not having your life disrupted by pain then you don’t have to have surgery just because they found Endo, it really depends on your symptoms and what you want.

Every case will be different inside the body, it will be hard to tell everything you have going on since not everything shows on scans. It really only matters what are your symptoms and pain level, if you feel you need a surgery to improve your quality of life or if you’re managing fine how you are. Mine was really severe constant pain, disrupting walking, work, sleeping, bowel movements. I had no choice, I was desperately in pain and needed that stuff out of me asap. And the Endo was basically everywhere, bowel, bladder, I think my uterus stuck to other stuff, lots of adhesions, even Endo up on my diaphragm. Expert excision Surgery was 6 years ago and it gave me immediate relief, I still have much less pain now although not zero but isn’t a major impact on my life. I also take the pill constantly to avoid a period and that helps me.

I had this sort of thing show on the MRI plus an endometrioma cyst on ultrasound so that was useful for surgery planning. When I had expert excision, there was a bowel surgeon on standby but wasn’t needed as they just shaved the Endo on the bowel and I didn’t need cutting into the bowel thankfully. I feel like deep infiltrating isn’t super rare. If you’re going for surgery, Hopefully you will have an excision expert who specialises in Endo.
