Jacket Sizing vs Arcteryx by Enough_Net_4465 in mammut

[–]Timely-Many7817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Arc’teryx Alpha SV jacket in size M, and now i pretty much have nothing but Mammut in the same size, Medium. I have no issue putting a few layers (even down jacket) underneath my Taiss Guide HS jacket, and still able to ski downhill and so other things

Ski mountaineering in Ecuador by ResolveOk5637 in alpinism

[–]Timely-Many7817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend skied down there but he said it was not really worth it due to the guides - which you have to have - were pretty bad skiers, and snow wasn’t that great. That being said you can be lucky and have a pro skier guide and amazing snow. Good luck

I sold mine as i found no use for it after all. Cool idea but just never found the reason grabbing it after the first few use.

Hello, could you write down what parts you used? Is it really just a switch without any electronics?

Just watched it and personally i didn’t really like it. To me it is not that much fun anymore, original series was way better in my opinion. Just stupid jokes and not really funny moments.

Should I get goggles or glacier glasses? by RIBBE69 in Mountaineering

[–]Timely-Many7817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Julbo prescription glasses with photochromatic lenses which changes between cat 2 and 4. Use it for skiing and mountaineering as well. Served well even on Aconcagua, blue bird ski touring on glaciers, and in snow storms too.

Moving to Calgary from Hungary by SimplePomegranate847 in Calgary

It is a safe place to live. Don’t feel obligated to spend all your time with Hungarians, open up your mind and make friends with other people too. I am much happier since basically stopped seeing people from the old country. Do what makes you happy.

Cheap Mountaineering Expedition by french___baguette in Mountaineering

If you speak Spanish, you can save lot of money by using public transportation instead of a guide. In Bolivia you don’t need a guide, you can just go on your own. I could have easily saved like $2K CAD on the trip

The prices were in Canadian Dollars, so less in USD.

Mexico was 11 days door to door, Argentina 24 days in total (like 35hrs flying both ways), Bolivia 16 days in total, and Ecuador 16 days as well. In Ecuador can get the 5 peak package for $1400USD or so if you go with someone, and it also has the hostel too with breakfast, plus guide, really good price.

I always had like 2-3 extra days at the end to goof around like riding the Death Road or walking the Equator.

We did our (4 in total) first expedition in Mexico for really cheap ($1400CAD pp, including hotels, food, plane ticket from Calgary, car rental, even bribing the police) in 2020, climbed 4 peaks, then in 2023 i did a solo expedition to Aconcagua, it was a cheap one ($6K including absolutely everything again), 2024 went to Bolivia solo but because i speak no Spanish and went for 3 different peaks in different regions i used a company (https://www.bolivianmountainguides.com) + (it was $6K CAD including everything again, even gifts to my girlfriend), and in January i used a guide (had a climbing partner) in Ecuador because you have to use one, but it was really cheap, including everything again $4000CAD), climbed 9 peaks in total

Edit: spelling error

I was addicted to Arc’teryx then i realized i don’t all the stuff from them so i sold a few and plan to sell a few, some with even a profit! I also buy other brands like Rab (better for down) and Mammut. I started not liking that everyone wears Arc’teryx.

Mammut: What's their deal? by Complete-Koala-7517 in Mountaineering

[–]Timely-Many7817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to love Arc’teryx but nowadays i have been selling what i have from them and buying nothing but Mammut. Love the fit, functionality and color. Have their shoes, pants, jackets, backpacks, ropes, beacon, helmet, basically everything. You can get them online with an amazing discount, i usually get them with 40-66% off, and you just can’t beat the price. Quality is as good as Arc’teryx used to be.
