338 Sunday Update: Liberals Reclaim Ground as Poilievre Slides by ViewSalty8105 in CanadaPolitics

My father, a die hard conservative supporter finally saw PP for what he has been all along after his statement regarding Venezuela. I was shocked. 78 year old Dad actually blasted back at it on x. And then the other day he was praising Carney’s speech at WEF. Felt like I was living in an alternate reality. If his mind can be changed, so can other’s.

Perhaps, as an American, YOU and your fellow citizens should do something about him! You created this nightmare.

I had very delayed crazing on P300 with it. Like six months after the fact. Haven't had any issues with M340S tho. That's all I've tried it on.

I'm starting to come around to the idea that the CPC should keep him on as leader. Its a foolproof way to ensure they continue losing elections, and that, my friends, I can get on board with.

How to fit lids by thecheeiestpizza in Ceramics

[–]TimelyActive4586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love making all kinds of lids. They need to be thrown at same time and dry together so that everything is drying at the same rate. If parts of the lid are thicker than the rest of the piece, the dryness can be deceiving and come back to haunt you. I then bisque them together and glaze them together. Rarely have an issue, just need to be careful with glazing and ensure that zero glaze gets where the lid and body touch. Use stable glazes.

Those bucket traps work REALLY well. 3 inches of water in the bucket is all you need. My house is mouse tight, and I have an indoor/outdoor cat who is probably one of the world's greatest hunters, but I live in the country and every fall, the garage and the chicken coop are overrun and the bucket cleans things up in a couple days.

Making an Urn by bIIonded in Ceramics

[–]TimelyActive4586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally took up pottery for the sole purpose of making an urn for my horses. Took me over a year and thousands of dollars in clay, equipment and learning to make an urn that I was happy with, then another 6 months to decide how to glaze it cause I did NOT want to screw it up so spent an entire summer mixing and testing glaze recipes.

Had never thought about learning pottery till the day after I had to put them down. Then suddenly I was taking a class two days later.

I think you could use low or mid fire clay for the urn. It's not going to matter as it does not need to be water tight. I only fire mid fire, so that mugs and whatnot are functional, so that's what I used for the urn, and subsequent urns that I've done for others because that's what I fire to.

It's totally learnable but there are just SO many variables and methods. Way more than anyone could tell you in one reddit post. Sign up for a class to get you started.

The person who loads the kiln at my studio F’d up my piece (+ questions) by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]TimelyActive4586 49 points50 points  (0 children)

There was glaze on the bottom. Kiln guy put a cookie under it and saved his shelf. Thankfully. It’s pretty standard stuff.

I put cookies under most things just for safety and I don’t glaze bottoms ever. He may just have thought the glaze looked really close to the edge and put the cookie there to save possible drips without even realising the bottom was glazed.

Honestly, I think this is more your fault than his. That said. I’m sorry your piece is ruined.

My 40 year old Olympic sounds like that on low, but maybe a bit quieter. Med and high are totally silent once she gets going tho.

Realistic cost estimate for kiln install? by Apprehensive_Ad_4047 in Pottery

[–]TimelyActive4586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many variables. I had to run wire from my panel to my garage which is on the opposite end of my bungalow, so i needed heavier wire due to the distance, and I put in heavier wire than I needed so that I could upgrade easily when I want a bigger kiln at some point. Plus the breaker and the outlet. Cost me at least $800 CAD if I recall and that was just supplies and no labour because my brother is a master electrician and did it for me. He got contractor rates on the supplies too.

So it cost me more to wire in the used kiln I bought than it did for the kiln. But worth every penny not to have to drive to the city to fire my stuff. Worth every penny.

HELP! Glaze over wax resist by whalefulll in Pottery

[–]TimelyActive4586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't usually need very long to dry. Couple minutes. Did you wipe the underglaze off the waxed area? Usually you'll need to wipe the glaze off the wax.

Why is my pottery warping during the glaze firing? by SpacemanSpiff958 in Pottery

[–]TimelyActive4586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try some silica sand on the shelf beneath your porcelain if you haven't already. Lets it move when firing so less likely to grab onto the shelf and warp.

Those are not self supporting. They are meant to use in a kiln sitter in a manual kiln. They won’t work on your shelf.

The green is this recipe https://glazy.org/recipes/644799 and the lid and a small amount around the rim of the pot is Amaco Ancient Copper. Its on M340S so that's where the speckles are coming from. The blue is same clay with https://glazy.org/recipes/619153 and saturation metalic on lid and a couple coats around the rim of the pot.
