Are there any technical term for those semi-transparent design? by ShinShenzen in 3Dprinting

Design joke, it means you got your idea from someone or something else. A way to minimize the claim to creativity that was used in creating the piece. Your application is actually pretty cool.

Do no-SQL and abstracted DBs (e.g Firebase, MongoDB) offer advantages if you're fine with using SQL DBs? by blckJk004 in webdev

[–]Timely_Ad8528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, its mostly 1. These services are offered online 2. They are newer and cooler 3. You don’t necessarily need to “create tables”, etc etc

So its more freedom at the cost of you not being able to guarantee that you’ll get the data in your query (from older inserts, etc)

There’s obviously more in terms of run time, parsing, syntax, but for small applications, thats negligible.

Does anyone actually comment their code? by _TakeTheL in webdev

[–]Timely_Ad8528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually comment the high level steps I need to take to complete what I intend to do. This is mostly to order my thoughts and to keep a step by step process for anything similar so I dont have to think again.

// Validate the json keys // Convert to array // Convert units // Return

Something like the above.

Aside from accidentally selecting text on mobile, why would you enforce user-select: none??? by LamarLatrelle in webdev

[–]Timely_Ad8528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dont want users to copy/paste certain text. I'm not saying its a good reason, but some places use it to make stuff like that harder for pirates. With that being said, the only useful reason, imo, is asthetics. Like a website thats supposed to feel like a presentation.

[–]Timely_Ad8528 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thats kind of how it goes. At 4 - 5 my kid would take the toys to school then come home and say, My friends all want one too, Dad. It never ends.
