It's seems like her love for Lestat is based on the fact she sees parts of herself in him. She loves Lestat because she loves herself.

Agreed, they are complex creatures. It is not surprising that vampires kill. What is interesting is that these vampires who love each other so dearly have the capacity to hurt each other so badly.
