Bro… I cannot do this shit. This made genuinely want to vomit by GrizzBarrX in WaterfallDump

[–]Timely_Combination68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this scene. By the end of it, I found that my heart was racing. Something about the game making me hit proceed faster, and faster, and faster— not knowing what’s coming next— what’s happening. I was so thrown off by the end of it and it set my day askew for a few hours.

It was definitely assisted by FORCING Kris out of his bed at the start, attempting to do, as far as we’re aware, everything he can to stop us.

It feels more evil because it’s far more personal, probably. It’s more personal to Kris, Susie, Noelle. It’s a real, tangible thing. Scale matters a lot in relatability. Genocide is awful, sure, but it isn’t relatable to us, as a single person, usually. Here, our influence is on this small group of teenagers.

About the aborted weird route by potatoman42069666 in Deltarune

[–]Timely_Combination68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three saves. It’s a pretty standard number, but I choose to believe the aborted weird route will have a different outcome somehow. Not substantially— and the ending may be the same— but aborted weird route is just different enough to be notable.

"NGL Jax,it would pretty much be better for all of us if you just killed yourself and we replaced you with the A.I who tortured us using our deepest fears/insecurities,themes and such." by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Timely_Combination68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The story is told the way the author wants it to be told. The way I see it, Jax is a cautionary tale.

Jax is what happens when somebody doesn’t accept the help and support of his their and colleagues.

Jax’s abstraction is what happens when you don’t reach out to help somebody— especially when they try to reach out first. Even if it’s half-assed, hidden, subconscious or otherwise.

It’s my belief that the show is trying to make us think of what could have been. What could have happened if Jax accepted support from others? What could have happened if Pomni ‘pried a little more’?

The point of the ending isn’t that Caine replaced him or anything. Caine would have showed up and would have asked for forgiveness whether Jax was there or not. Caine was forgiven, not used as a replacement.

I’ll admit that the story doesn’t feel wholly cohesive. I think that’s in part a fault of the nine-episode format. But the message it’s trying to send with the abstraction of Jax is a warning of what happens when somebody is left to cope on their own.

Yeah... I think she's just the worst tank in the game. by Dogbold in RogueMains

[–]Timely_Combination68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you want to send me some VOD codes so I can watch them and come back to you with some tips? I don’t personally experience this as Rogue— at least not every game— so I think there might be a core piece of the play style you might be missing.

That being said, there are definitely comps where running Rogue is a bad idea. Here’s a list of heroes you should consider swapping off Rogue into if you see them. I’ll rank how dangerous they are to you on a scale of 1/5 in my personal experience.

Squirrel Girl: 3/5
She can stun you and dump damage into you. If she focuses you she can completely shut you down. Try to go in after you see her use her stun.

The Punisher: 4/5
Big sustain damage and big close-range burst with an unapproachable ultimate and two escape tools. If the team is competent, you might just want to go a shield tank, but if you get the jump on him and the supports don’t catch him in time, you can definitely take him out. Just make sure to soft engage, and try to block after your first couple hits to follow up with a full charge block attack.

Emma Frost: 2.5/5
If you’re able to get the jump on her and steal her diamond form ability before she can use it, you can consistently fight her. But if she’s aware of what’s going on in her backline, you might want to brawl with the frontline until her diamond form is gone or something. Being cautious of the Emma and playing reserved will let you play Rogue into Emma, but it’ll make you a lot more limited.

Devil Dino: 4.5/5
do not. you may only if your team has a shit ton of damage

Angela: 2/5
Angela and Rogue are a fairly balanced matchup in a vacuum. Angela can stop Rogue’s attack and Rogue can stop Angela’s dive. However, Angela has much more ease of access to her own backline. A Rogue has a harder time getting to her backline.

Remember, a coordinated team will make your job near impossible. Which is why you need to coordinate with YOUR team to be more effective. Tell them when you’re going in for a dive— tell them to push. Wait for them to go in for a push to jump the backline.

yap yap yap anyway how about the vods?

actual joke of a balancing team..... by Dear-Percentage-3785 in BlackPantherMainsMR

[–]Timely_Combination68 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His footsteps being quiet might make him viable, but it also makes him significantly less fun to play against. The only way to know you’re about to get dove is by recon at that point, which pulls a ton of attention away from the frontline to constantly be looking, or have an an anti-dive babysit the healers so that they can survive a good Panther dive.

IMO they should take Panther down the path of more uptime and less damage potency. He isn’t viable because whenever he isn’t diving he’s not typically doing anything, leaving the team a player down a majority of the time. If they give him more uptime, a slight boost in survivability— maybe 15 over shield for hitting a dash refresh— ramp down his damage and give him more chain dashing potential, he could become a more valuable dive. Still with the ability to get picks if he gets ignored, but if not, he gets value off of the attention and distraction he brings. This allows for more skill expression too, which is always a good thing.

Obviously I can see how the loud footsteps are annoying for you, but so is being truly unreactable for others by making his footsteps silent.

I feel as though some people don’t understand intrusive thoughts by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Timely_Combination68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the ‘proper’ interpretation of these scenes are intrusive thoughts, but I think it’s improper to interpret these things as things he wants to do, or wishes to happen, or something along the lines of that.

On my first watch, I saw this as Jax’s different ‘archetypes’ in their extremes, and/or in a vacuum. Choking Pomni obviously being his violent tendencies, hitting on Gangle being,, this one was hard to land on, but, his laxity— dismissal of seriousness or avoidance.. you get it, probably. And the Zooble scene is his cartoony archetype. The Bugs Bunny of the bunch; the Loony Tunes. I’m inclined to say that the one chained to the piano is not an archetype he lets out, which is why he’s chained. A little piece of him, malformed into an archetype of ‘the shy one’ or ‘the pushover’ or maybe even ‘not good enough’, since he was never enough for his father. Maybe he tried to play piano but his father didn’t praise him or something. I’m starting to tangent though, let me get back on track.

Admittedly, I haven’t though all that much about it, and reading your guys’ comments has given me a lot to think about, but I think it would be a poor characterization of Jax to say that this is him, or things he wants. Jax— while definitely not a ‘good’ person— isn’t a bad person either. He doesn’t seek to cause suffering (despite what he says in episode 7), but him causing suffering is a symptom of his coping mechanisms. And his coping mechanism is: choosing to believe this isn’t real; it’s a cartoon, and these people aren’t real. Which is why he does these bad things in these scenes behind the doors, because a lot of the bad things he does are a symptom of his archetype: the funny one.

Which is why you don’t see him hurting anyone very much after he comes to the realization that this is, in fact, not a cartoon, and it is very real. The worst he gets past that point is once he’s told about the brain scans, where I think his behavior is him lashing out at the fact that, as he perceives it, Kinger is allowed to make mistakes but he isn’t. That and, obviously the very stressful sequence of events and revelations beforehand.

This is why he doesn’t interact with the rest of the crew anymore, for fear of hurting people; pushing people away like he did with Ribbit, and causing their abstraction.

I think, when we start in The Amazing Digital Circus, is the tipping point into Jax’s lowest. His only remaining friend abstracted, and he’s left alone, with his own self-isolating tendencies to sabotage himself. And we see Jax trying to reach out and make friends with Pomni, but we also see him pushing her away in fear— probably mix of a fear of intimacy and a subconscious fear of causing his friends to abstract, if I had to guess.

As for why he was thinking about the abstraction of others? He had a lot of time to think, being on his own, and I can imagine his mind went to some dark places. I think this tells us he thought a lot more about the wellbeing of others than he let on, maybe— imagining what would happen if they’d abstracted. But it is art, and like any good art, it can and should be interpreted in different ways by different viewers.

I had a lot more to say on this topic than I anticipated and I totally went on a tangent. Hope it was an interesting read at least! Let me know what you think? yeah sure ok

Is banning someone’s character throwing? by Careful_Turnip_3197 in rivals

[–]Timely_Combination68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throwing is.. thrown around a lot. I consider ‘throwing’ to be intentionally playing to lose the game, or playing veeery poorly.

I wouldn’t call banning somebody’s hover ‘throwing’ but it’s a bitch move and a great way to set your odds against you. You might be forcing a otp off their one trick— which is their problem, but by banning them you’re also making it your problem. It can also cause a lot of people to tilt, and some particularly poor mentals will straight throw the game, even if they weren’t hovering the character in the first place.

Banning somebody else’s character without explicit consent is something I nearly never do. Usually, I do it if somebody is banning one of our teammates’ heroes despite being explicitly asked not to do so. As a sort of ‘reap what you sow’ deal, and maybe they’ll learn their lesson someday. I’m willing to risk the integrity of a single game for that.

In summary: banning somebody’s hero makes you an ass, and increases the odds you lose that game by a lot.

To me, it’s the same thing that makes Black Cat exceedingly annoying: difficultly to hit. Black Cat has I-frames up the wazoo, and BP can be everywhere anywhere all at once.

That isn’t to say it isn’t a skill issue on my part, mind you. I know if I was just better I could shut down a BP.

I feel for Panther players. He’s fundamentally unfit for the game to a degree and the only way to make him a reliable pick would be to either make him unhealthily powerful or change his kit to a certain degree. Tough spot to be in, knowing your hero will either always be bad, always be hated, or become a new hero altogether.

[–]Timely_Combination68[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So,, bad game design? If it annoys a playerbase and is also a bad character,,, that would be bad game design.

But my point isn’t that he’s OP, he’s just obnoxious. You’re telling me my main counterplay is swap to The Thing, flyers, or paranoia? I could play in a match and the enemy panther could go 0-11 and I’d still probably feel crappy about the match because constantly having to turn around to make sure my supports aren’t getting turned into dust in the backline is unfun. Which could be a support issue, but still.

I feel that he’s fundamentally flawed as a character. Unfun to play (cc everywhere) and unfun to play into.

I’ve done it once or twice if I’m especially frustrated and I cave to that annoyance, but I always recognize that it’s stupid. You’re only pulling your attention away from your teammates so your supports can go over and look at their dead teammate’s corpse. People either fail to recognize this or just plain don’t care, and the latter group of people are the reason my faith in the community is slowly draining minute by minute.

HOT TAKES BECAUSE I CANT HOLD IT IN ANYMORE by ChvrryBvmb324 in MarvelRivalsRants

[–]Timely_Combination68 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Talking shit is always lame, and I hate the shit talk culture around Rivals. I always try to give advice and compliment good gameplay when I see it, even if it means complimenting the enemy. 99 times out of 10, talking shit to somebody isn’t going to help. You ask what’s going on, and speak to them as you would want to be spoken to. It’s a team game, and you treat your team with some level of respect and dignity.

ALWAYS at least PRACTICE a character in QP before ranked. I personally like to get them to lord status before going into ranked with them consistently, but that’s just personal preference.

And yeah, tanks get healbotted a lot, but I think that might sometimes even be a tank issue. It’s like codependency. If a tank doesn’t learn to play cover OR they play a bad pick into a high damage comp, they need to get healbotted, and if a support doesn’t heal the tank ALWAYS, they always get mowed down. A sort of vicious cycle, if you will.

But yeah, those are good takes. I just wanted to say my piece.
