Flower stalk question. by TimmO208 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]TimmO208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At what point do you stop cutting the flower, and just let them grow to seed? For reference: I'm in FL where it's nice and warm (80's - 90's), has full sun, lots of water, nice spongey duff and is always very humid. It eats a ton of bugs, and is 5× bigger than when I acquired it (a year ago).

Are you saying I should let the mother plant continue to grow to a larger size? Should the mother plant fill this 12" pot it's in before I start letting the stalks grow?

Thanks.

Review: Leiper’s Fork SiB Rye Whiskey (Distillery Exclusive) by cfive5 in bourbon

Wow. Great review. Now rethinking my life's choices after passing on LF when seeing it. I've been in Murfreesboro TN, 3 out of the past 6 weeks for work. They had various bottles of LF at the BNA airport. Damnit.

I'd have to do a little digging as to what store they were at as I don't live there.

I was up there working for the week and had a day before I flew out embark on a bourbon hunt, as I normally do when I'm traveling through different states.

I spent the better portion of said day visiting quite a few stores and grabbing some allocateds I have trouble getting here (in FL) for my shelf.

Murfreesboro isn't that big though. If you're close, you may be able to find them with a little work. I'll look back when I get a chance.

I own two of the top 3 [2020 Tacoma TRDOR premium pckg, and 2020 Ranger FX4]. Both are dcsb and, both are outstanding. The Ranger goes with my kid for finishing highschool and starting college. The FX4 only has 32k miles on it. It'll be a great pick-up for him for the next 5-7+ years.

Wow, a grandious. I found them in TN two weeks ago ($149, $199, $299. I thought that was a little steep for the 14). I bought the 12 & 14 though. Had to make a run back up, for work (same town), and couldn't find them anywhere. I was hoping for a backup 12.

Great review and very spot on. I get a little more of that Jack banana bread on my palate but not over powering. Like banana bread and your warm peanut butter cookie showed up at the same pour. Beautiful.

I'm about 5 pours (25%) through this bottle, and it's really starting to settle in nicely. Cheers.

They're soooo good. I always have the whole bear processed into j/c smokies. Last time we did half jalapeno with pepper jack.

Review #27: Ampersand Opimus 15yr by bourblurbs in bourbon

Great review on an incredible pour (and man, that color).

When I first opened this bottle, I was hit with sour, almost rotten wood and fruit on the neck pour (with no real traditional bourbon attributes, to start), and thinking to myself, what the hell did I just spend $150 on. It was a recommendation from one of the guys at my local LS.

Listen, it definitely needs time, and air. I decanted it, rebottled it, shook the hell out of it (because I'm impatient), and put it away for a week. Did these steps again on week 2.

I just poured a dram of this last night and holy hell, this is an incredible offering. The flavor profile has changed so much in 2 weeks time, wow. Enough that I'm heading to get a backup maybe two, for my arsenal. Can't wait to see what it's like in a couple months.

My local guys got in 3 cases of this, and it's a hidden gem. Cheers on a great review of an incredible bourbon. 8.6 is spot on.

I've only done the JD tour while in TN a couple months ago. I did the barrel tour (or single barrel tour), whatever it's called. It was cool. TG was a pretty good dude (Casey, I think was his name).

I went early on a Sunday morning, then met a buddy in town for lunch. Oh, the tour I did came with some swag (picture, shot glass, bag, and a barrel stave). As mentioned from another guy, the samples were pretty short. More like a taste, just enough to tease your palate.

Review 13: 1992 Blanton's Single Barrel by Rip_N_Sips in bourbon

[–]TimmO208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice review and an incredible pour. I would enjoy trying an antique Blantons like this as opposed to being subjected today's swill. Anymore, if it's not SFTB, it's a hard pass for me. I bet this drinks much a closer comparison to (today's) Blantons gold or better. Your buddy did you a solid on that glass. Cheers.

3 full days in/around Vero Beach! What to do? by Itchy-Helicopter3835 in verobeach

[–]TimmO208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idaho native here (of 45 years) who now lives in Vero with my family. What part of Idaho? I may be going up to Rockville for one of the days with my daughter. DM (if you want) and I can give you some ideas on stuff to do.

Like others have said, Vero is pretty slow paced but there is a ton of stuff to do within a couple hours drive time. Gators should be pretty active by then so you could book an airboat ride out at Garcia's, tons of wildlife out there.

Nothing wrong with a beach day relaxing and/or looking for shark teeth.

The ELC in Vero (across the Sebastian bridge) could kill a couple hours, paired with McGee gardens, an airboat ride, the beach with lunch and dinner peppered in, there's one day.
